Morrisville Will Start The 2012-13 School Year With A New Elementary Administrator

Morrisville will start the 2012-13 school year with a new elementary administrator
Posted: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 10:35 pm | Updated: 12:08 am, Thu Aug 23, 2012.
After four years as a teacher and another four years as a principal in the Morrisville School District, Laurie Ruffling is leaving the borough. The Grandview Elementary principal has been offered an administrative position at another Lower Bucks school district. “I’m going to miss the kids, the staff, the administration,” she said, playfully adding that she’s gotten forehead wrinkles during her time at Morrisville. “I definitely have learned a lot during my time here.”
The school board accepted her resignation, which will be effective Aug. 30, at Wednesday’s meeting.
With the new school year fast approaching, the board appointed Grandview Elementary third-grade teacher Todd DuPell as the administrative interim at the elementary, which means he’ll be taking on Ruffling’s responsibilities for the 2012-13 school year. He’s been an educator for 11 years — three of which have been at Morrisville.
“I’m excited, honored and blessed,” DuPell said after the meeting. “I’m looking forward to the start of the new school year.”
DuPell has his principal certification that allows him to do administrative work from kindergarten through 12 grade. He’s a 1991 Bristol Borough High School graduate and he received his master’s degree in curriculum instruction and supervision from Rider University in New Jersey in 2006.
DuPell’s position is only for the upcoming school year, and it will be up to the school board to decide there after, Superintendent Bill Ferrara said following the meeting.
“It’s a sad day for Morrisville,” Ferrara said of Ruffling’s departure.
“She’s been great with the administrative team,” he said. “She’s a person I can count on. ... It’s a huge loss for the district, the parents and our students.”
Paul DeAngelo, the district manager, thanked Ruffling for her hard work and applauded her diligence with grants.
School board President John DeWilde also thanked Ruffling for her service and wished her well.

So no news on a teacher contract before the school year at the meeting last night? No news on a support staff contract before the school year last night? I guess we'll find out in a few days how well that works out for the district. Fairly good planning on admins part I would say. Remove trailers, move classrooms and students all over the place, put up a few gates, change the school calendar, toss a new principal intern into the fire and hope the teachers and support staff feels like working shorthanded without contracts. This ought to be good. Who's leading this parade?

Teacher leave due to retirement, Class sizes are not up anywhere near other schools, what planet are you living in? and class size going up is not necesarily a bad thing considering that may mean more kids staying into high school and families moving in.
Um if your daughter was dating a senior, should have kept better track of your daughter.

why do you think you have to hear about a contract for kids to go back to school. my contract negotiations have always gone on for long periods of time and we still went back to school and work and kids all worked out fine. if you are up on things you would know that these people had no choice but to remove those modulars after years of running out insurance money and not doing anything to fix the old school, maybe you should go to a meeting or two like the rest of us and keep up on things and get out behind your computer.

Yep. With 15 less teachers. Class sizes up! Education down! Maybe more Seniors will date more Middle Schoolers bc they weren't close enough before. Awesome. Good planning. Happy I pulled my daughter.'

That's negative. Whatever happened to putting that negative energy into making a positive difference? So sad.

Damn! I sure wish popcorn could be purchased on this blog. I enjoy watching things coming out into the open!

It has been my experience that individuals who treat people poorly and shove their own agendas down others' throats do not withstand the test of time. Unscrupulous methods and behind the scenes deals with unsavory people do not lead to positive change at all. Some people just simply get what they had coming to 'em all along. It is enjoyable to sit back and watch the truth be brought to light! I'll take my popcorn with extra butter please!

Heads up... the mv.org website appears to be infected with a virus. Make sure your antivirus is up-to-date if you've been there recently or if you need to go there any time soon. I have sent an email with the details to administration.

Thankfully, a caring friend (who actually reads this) so kindly informed me that she believes that some of these cruel and petty comments are directed about me. Not that ANY of what I'm about to publish is any of this gossip ridden towns' busniess but I do NOT appreciate lies being spead an unfounded rumors running amuck. So, for the record - I did NOT by choice pull my daughter out of the Morrisville School district. That was HER choice and my family has been rocked by this and having to deal with it privately (or so I thought). As for my son, we absolutely made the decision best for our own family and for my son. I want him to be in a proactive, structured, organized, educationally focused environment that he is set up to suceed in. This decision did NOT come lightly and I did speak to administrators within the school district about it. I wasn't aware I had to get the ok of the rest of the community. Perhaps I should make sure the other families whom are switching schools get the approval of the entire community, also. As for the rest, I do have a full time job (in which I'm quite successful at), household, family and other priorities that do NOT include engaging with busybodies of this small town. This is the first time I have read or commented on this blog and I can assure you - it is the last.

Good for you Melissa Danbury. I applaud your focus on your family and children's education. It's ashame more people choose to focus on gaining power in small town politics rather than doing what's best for the students.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Very happy to see the 3% raise for the teacher support staff. Its about time. These people along with the teachers are vital to the success of many of our students. They are paid next to nothing and get no benefits so a 3% raise doesn't amount to a big cost for the district but is worth its wait in gold to those who receive it financially and symbolically.

and good riddance to, well you know the rest.

The line between MM and SOC gets blurrier by the day. Politicians are politicians. No matter what sheep or wolf clothing they wear.

Anonymous said...

Not even close IMO.

That's it. Keep pushing people away until there is no one left. Way to go. You should be so proud of yourselves.

Please take your personal beefs up with each other and leave everybody else out of it.

Better yet, let it go.

very sad to see so much bad information coming out on this blog.would be so nice to see it more as an informational tool and not a place to hurt someone. please remember whether community member, soc, mm, parent, child, neighbor etc etc etc all of these people are humans. Please take a break from the hurt and put some of that energy into growing the community as a whole.

Good post, Wanda.

Even though I'm the blogmeister, I don't know who's doing it, and I don't know how to go about finding out. I don't really want to either. I don't want to have to be a policeman or a censor.

I just want to assure everyone that I am not the one doing it.

I was unaware of who might have been the target of the veiled references until she outed herself. The fact she needed to refute it publicly suggests to me there is some fire inside the smoke. I just wish you the best.

With all the innuendo and whispering that's just another SOC campaign tactic, may I humbly make a suggestion to the people who are supposedly on the "good side" of this? CUT IT THE HELL OUT!!

I'm not trying to be facetious, but which ones? I mean, where do you start and where do you end? I removed the 2nd one from the top for now.

Greetings, Herr Blogmeister Meisterblogger! Use good judgement. With great power comes great responsibility.

In a sad commentary on the ways of here and the world, the number of pageviews today was over double the normal amount.

It wasn't the all time high day, though. Not by a long shot. That occurred at the height of the Asst. Football Coach "Bounty" controversy.

I'm sure everyone is getting antsy as we get close to the start of school. People might be just checking in to see if there is any news about everything that is going on.

Anonymous said...

There is no blurring of the lines between MM and soc it's just MM is now stuck having to clean up the huge pile of horse crap left behind by Marlis and her crew.

I agree that that's an unfair characterization.

Anybody notice that Ferrara basically asked the Tech School to do us a favor with the landscaping project at Grandview? Boy, you'd think we were on good terms with them or something.

Anonymous said...

Tech should send a bill for the work. $12/hr for the student workers plus the $90,000 -$100,000 withheld by the Hellmaniacs plus interest plus legal fees. Split it by every board member who supported withholding plus Ferrara plus DeAngelo plus Profy for going along with or encouraging it.

Melissa you keep doing what is right for you and your family. Don't t let what people post here effect you. You are a good person and I know you always put your children and family first. I know that you had some very stressful decisions to make. I know how emotionally hard they were for you. Hold your head high. Don't let small minded, petty people get yo you.

Going back to the original topic of the article, who fills in as a 3rd grade teacher for Mr. DuPell?

Anonymous said...

Good question, does anybody know the answer??

Anonymous said...

Probably just take the class and divide them into the other 3rd grade classes. Savings baby, savings. Maybe the K class of '08 can get all the way through 12th without us taxpayers being burdened with tax increases. Aint my kids. Over paid teachers.
