No Residents Show Up For Meeting On Future Of Morrisville Schools

No residents show up for meeting on future of Morrisville schools

Posted: Tuesday, December 18, 2012 1:05 pm

Zero.
That's the number of Morrisville residents who attended last week's Education Committee meeting, during which the future of the borough's school district was discussed.
School board director and committee member Jack Buckman took community members to task at the meeting, saying they “react” after decisions are made instead of being part of the process to find solutions.
He and school board President Damon Miller, also on the committee, encouraged the community to participate in the decision-making on the future education of the town's children.
Miller said whatever route the district takes will affect the community for the next 15 to 20 years, so it's important for the parents and taxpayers to let their voices be heard.
He added the process is transparent and committee members will inform residents of any additional information received from the administration.
Officials don't anticipate any changes in the next year school year, however, they are aware of the district's tight finances and the need for adjustments. The state is providing limited financial help to small districts, such as Morrisville. In addition, salary and benefit increases are taking a big chunk of the yearly budgets.
The committee's meetings aren't recorded, therefore, not available on cable channel or the school's website.
The committee is in the early stages on the future of education issue. So far nine options are on the table. They are:
  • Keep the status quo;
  • Five-period day (currently, the high school runs with six periods);
  • Cyber courses;
  • Increasing the number of students attending Bucks County Technical High School in Bristol Township;
  • Tuition out high school students;
  • Increase dual enrollment with Bucks County Community College;
  • Full district merger;
  • Split schedule (staggering school entrance times);
  • Multi-district cyber courses (a pool of districts offering a variety of cyber classes).
The education committee meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the LGI room at the high school building on Palmer Avenue.

That article made me think of this: Applying Stoutian Logic, Everyone is Happy, Keep up the Good Work.

Sorry, I couldn't make it. I made the November mtg. I'll make more in the future. But like Regin Philbin and his probably out of print 1996 book, I'm Only One Man!

7/15/2008

Mr. Stout
“On this side here, there’s nobody here; this is basically the taxpayer’s area. We have nobody here because they have no complaints. They’re happy with what you’re doing. I would say, keep up the good work. You know, right here, well, anyhow keep up the good work and (pointing to the audience on his right) don’t listen to anybody on this side.”

Not a total excuse, but so close to the holidays is kind of tough

Jon,

Amazon.com Regis Philbin's I'm Only One Man! available for $1.00 hardback, $0.01 paperback.

I want the school to be well funded and well run and for my taxes to be as low as possible. I also need to work to put food on the table.

And Jack can STFU with his hypocrisy on community participation. He was one of Hellmann's heroes literally shutting people up and shutting them out of the conversation.

“This stuff was presented before, you had your chances to ask questions, you know what we're going to do, what more do you want, more meetings?"

Jack Buckman

Ah, the memories. Ironically, I believe this was Mr. Buckman's reply to current School Board President Damon Miller's legitimate questions about the school budget, back when Mr. Miller was just an ordinary citizen.

Suggestion: Mr. Buckman, community participation starts at home. Paying for your trash service is a community event. Participate in lowering the community's trash bills even more than they have been by paying your trash bills like everyone else. Just a suggestion : )

How sad it is that two of the students in the Morrisville School District recently win big in Links Competition where they both received quite a bit of prize money and people not showing up at a meeting is what's big news in the newspaper. So sad.

(from mv.org)
POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

Emily Eisengrein, a 4th grade student in Morrisville Intermediate School, won a local regional and national art poster contest sponsored by the Links Inc., and received a total of $1,500 for her entry in the “Healthy, Active and Wise---Make Health a Habit” contest.

Brittany Widmann, now a 7th grade student at the Intermediate School, won the local and Eastern Regional contest and received a $500 award in the Links competition.

Both students were honored during the August meeting of the Morrisville School Board, where they also were presented with checks for their winning efforts by Nancy Reid, arts chairperson, Links, Bucks County Chapter.

There were 487 entries in the Morrisville district competition.

Links Inc. is an international, non-profit service corporation with 12,000 professional women of color active in 274 chapter in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

Not surprising that no one showed. If the agenda had included cutting football or raising taxes, a drunk angry mob with torches and pitchforks would have been marching on them. Let's not pretend that the majority of the citizens of the ville give two shiats about education. I am no Buckman supporter, and I think he should be ashamed, but his is not the only hypocrisy.

Don't know about the drunk part but you're overall correct.

When that so called bounty FB coach thing erupted I saw people in the LGI who I hadn't seen there before or since.

Congratulations to Emily Eisengrein - part of a talented trio of Eisengrein students!

just fyi the Art links contest happened months ago AND was/is included on the mv.org website and had been published in several areas since that time and the kids were honored at the board meeting . This was a new article but not a new story, its a repeat.

correct about the angry mob, most can only complain on this blog or on facebook or to their friends and spread rumors like crazy instead of trying to be a part of a solution and the future of the district. it sickens me that people complain and complain but never put themselves out there to help. you cannot get much more transparent than this board and the things they are doing to get everyone involved. its what I wanted when i voted for the new members last year and its what I see happening.
everyone is busy, everyone. to say you cannot get to not one meeting is BS. simply BS and it has nothing to do with the pending holiday its the disinterest until its something hurting 'my kid' and only 'my kid' and yet one kid does not make a district

"Don't know about the drunk part but you're overall correct. "

Well, my recollection of the Gibson board meeting where they voted for the school was that the alcohol fumes were so thick, you could become intoxicated just breathing. It also helps explain some of the more outrageous performances I saw that night.

I've seen a certain ex board member acting soused on booze, pills or both several times.

Anyone we know? I think some of the behavior is crazy, but I don't recall any of them ever being under the influence.

Why do people wait until something like Newtown, Conn., happens before they go to church and ask God to watch over them?

I always enjoy comments from Bill Minder and his buddy Bill Farrell. (like a toothache) Being part of Jane Burger's rumor mill obstructionism on a daily basis is a perfectly fine way to live because on Sunday, going to church will be their free golden ticket into heaven.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but having Jack Buckman sit on an education committee making future decisions for this district is not what I was expecting from this 'new' board.

Anonymous said...

I always don't enjoy comments from the likes of Minder and Farrell. It saddens me to hear inane blather from self righteous boobs.

Do not lump me in with Stout but I am happy there is a majority of adults with good heads on their shoulders and no petty axes to grind on the School board. SendStout and Worob and Buckman packing and I'll be even happier! I don't worry as much about what a bunch of SOC zealots are going to do next

Anonymous said...

The 'new' board has to split up multiple committee assignments to handle all issues within the district. when you only have 9 members and only 7 are participating the members spread themselves quite thin. Jack is not heading up the education Committee, he is a member, Mr. Miller is the lead and Mr. Dingle is also a member. And they do not make the decisions, they are gathering all the info and options and bringing them to the table, in front of the public.

Anonymous said...

Also unlike SOC the new members aren't vindictive and into cutting out anyone who doesn't march in lockstep with them.

Anonymous said...

Worob & Stout have largely cut themselves out; they don't show for this stuff just barely on the main mtgs. especially Worob.

Anonymous said...

If only seven members are participating throw them off the board just like the lady a few years ago.

The electorate can give Ronny Stout the Old Heave Ho in 2013.

It's just around the corner!
