Winterfest brings out the holiday spirit in Laurie Hoffer. The president of the Morrisville Ambulance Squad always rides in the parade that is part of the borough's day-long celebration held around the holidays, and Saturday was no exception.
"I love it," she said after parading through Morrisville streets with representatives from community organizations, holiday characters and many others.
"I'm not what you'd call a real great Christmas type person," Hoffer continued. "But when this comes around every year, it really boosts me up."
The parade featured Little Miss Winterfest Victoria Sullivan, 11, a fourth-grader at Holy Trinity School. She was accompanied by Mr. Winterfest Tyler Kartal, 17, a student at Bucks County Technical High School.
The parade ended at Morrisville High School, where the school district's 21st Century Community Learning Center was holding its Open House and Winter Celebration, an event that has become part of Winterfest.
Inside the high school, visitors browsed through merchandise from dozens of vendors, played games and enjoyed holiday-themed shows and musical presentations.
"It's a day of partnership with the whole community," said the school district's 21st Century grant coordinator Darletta Berry-Johnson. "It's a way for us to participate in Winterfest while having our own open house and showcasing our after-school programs and other things."
Winterfest also included Breakfast with Santa at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Solid Rock Youth Center Open House, live nativity and petting zoo at the First Baptist Church.
There was also a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" and tree lighting at Borough Hall.
"It's great to come out and meet people," said longtime borough resident and school board member Jack Buckman. "Everyone comes out."
