I was at the zucchini races at the senior center yesterday. Even though I have not seen Mr. Pepitone anywhere in Morrisville prior to this event, he was there the entire time as well. Some others who were there were Eileen D, Jane B, Rita L, and Yvonne R. So I paid attention to my surroundings. I saw that Mr. Pepitone was engaging individuals in conversation here and there. There weren't that many people and he looked like he made his rounds. I assumed he was campaigning. But he did not make any attempt at introducing himself to any of the people I mentioned above. I thought it interesting, but not surprising.
Having read what I have been able to find, I don't attribute anything negative to Mr. Pepitone. I will take him at his word until he proves that isn't to be trusted. I think he might be the real deal, and given that I don't care for any of the other candidates, he will likely get my write in. The groundswell of opposition is so typical of what happens around here when someone new tries to get involved, and meanwhile we bemoan the dearth of new blood.
He isn't part of the old guard of do nothings, and that alone means he is way ahead of the pack. The Burger conspiracy theorists need more than empty accusations. Maybe some of his ideas might seem far too grandiose, but unless you shoot for the stars, you never know how far you might go. If we aim low, we'll be even lower, and history has born that out around here. My suggestion to Mr. Pepitone is to get out and start knocking on doors, handing out literature and meeting the people at their homes. I've only heard of him here and from the article in the paper.
If he is successful at any of the endeavors he's proposed, he'll be better than the no comment, vote no mayor we have now.

Dave Rivella hasn't been talking about it, he's been doing it and people still turn their back on him. Unbelievable.
Don't care for any other candidates because they aren't the real deal? Lord what would Dave Rivella have to do to prove he's the real deal? The guy and his family have been working for Morrisville for as long as I've lived here, he donates his salary back to the town and is everywhere, supporting every cause that happens here.

I expect that in spite of the many accusations, most of the involved people really care about the town, and strive to do their best. This is particularly challenging in an environment where everyone tears down anything you try, and it seems that everyone suspects everyone else of perfidy. It is also challenging when so many apparently unqualified people seek out and are placed into positions of great responsibility. I don't really know Dave except that he seems to be a bit of a lightning rod for criticism, (Who isn't?). I also see the same group of people failing to progress toward any real improvement. It is that entropy which makes me turn away from the incumbent clique and look toward new people with new ideas and new energy. If Mr. Rivella is really the superman you portray, please cite his accomplishments improving he town in stead of making grand sweeping statements. Maybe I don't get out enough, but I am not aware of his leading citizen status that you claim for him.

I'm disappointed that the acting chief chose to behave negatively. Not turning away from the reporter and making a simple statement that he wasn't allow to comment on any ongoing investigations would have been appropriate.
I saw that Councilman Cicero was in the background of the video taken inside borough hall. The video also showed that Cicero's daughter was working in the police office.
This is new. I don't remember seeing this job advertised.
It seems kind of improper to have the former chiefs' daughter working in the police dept considering we don't yet know the results of the police investigation. I'm not saying anything underhanded would go on, it just doesn't send a good message.

A police department’s responsibility to its community doesn’t start with putting cops on the streets or responding to calls quickly. It begins with preventive measures. This includes keeping citizens informed.
The Morrisville Police Department failed in this basic duty when it didn’t report and then refused to confirm — when questioned — that a second child abduction attempt had occurred in the borough in recent weeks.
Borough Mayor Rita Ledger, who oversees the police department, confirmed Monday that an attempted abduction took place Friday. The temporary head of the chiefless department refused to talk to the newspaper when a reporter called with questions about the incident earlier that day. The reporter then contacted Mayor Ledger.
According to a witness, a boy was approached by two men in a white work van; he ran away. The failed abduction follows a similar incident last month when an 8-year-old girl escaped a kidnap attempt in her own back yard. The would-be abductor had covered the girl’s mouth and was dragging her toward his car when the girl bit his hand, wrangled free and ran off.
Information about that frightening incident was not released by police until five days later. Finally made aware of both near-abductions, citizens attending this week’s borough council meeting clamored for more police on the streets.
That’s not a bad idea. Problem is, police ranks have been thinned by retirements and resignations, so beefing up street presence isn’t a simple matter in the short term until replacements are hired. What’s simple — and effective — is keeping the public informed. Citizens can be the eyes and ears of police — if they’ve been alerted to danger.
It’s unconscionable that borough residents went about their business completely unaware of an attempted child abduction for five days in the case of last month’s incident and for three days in the case of last week’s. Such an incredible lack of judgment — a dereliction of duty in our view — speaks to the chaotic state of the borough police department. The place is a zoo.
Cops are fighting amongst themselves leading to lawsuits and a request from the borough’s insurance company for an investigation. An interim chief with a background as a judge and prosecutor quit after two weeks on the job, citing a lack of cooperation from police personnel. He filed a report with borough officials before departing. Following the lead of their secretive police department, officials did not volunteer the document. The newspaper has filed a Freedom of Information request to obtain it.
It shouldn’t have to come to that. Citizens have a right to know what’s going on with the police department they pay to protect them. Reportedly, the departing chief in his report said Morrisville’s mess of a police department is a “tragedy or catastrophe” waiting to happen.
There now have been two near-misses. We fear — and so should bumbling borough officials — that it’s just a matter of time before tragedy indeed strikes.
