Morrisville School District tackles 2014-15 budget

Posted: Thursday, January 2, 2014 3:08 pm | Updated: 10:16 pm, Thu Jan 2, 2014.
Morrisville School District officials are busy at their calculators, working on a 2014-2015 budget that currently has a gap of more than a half-million dollars. As of Thursday, the district was looking to balance a $770,000 difference between its revenues and expenditures, business administrator Paul DeAngelo said. That’s $82,361 more than the $687,639 figure reported to the council in mid-December.
“As always at this time and until June, we are reviewing all items within the preliminary 2014-15 budget,” DeAngelo said.
Under state law, school district budgets have to be finalized by June 30.
At the board’s next meeting on Jan. 15, school directors will vote on how to move forward with the spending plan.
The board will have two options.
“The first is to adopt a resolution to stay within the 2014-15 Act 1 Index, our Act 1 index is 2.5 percent. This would be the max(imum) percent increase to our millage rate. The second option is to approve a preliminary 2014-15 proposed budget, which would need to be approved in February,” DeAngelo said.
School board President Damon Miller said the administration is working to present the board with detail figures regarding the two options; the board will work from those numbers.
“Everything is on the table at this point in time,” he said.

The school district and borough budgets are such difficult tasks to work with. I don't envy any of the people who have to take these on. I'm sure budget time is not something that anyone involved looks forward to.

Please remember that these same people live with the end results of their budgets as well. Nobody wants to raise taxes, but when it does happen, these same people have to live with the increases, just like everyone else. They are doing what they must.

Scarcity mentality is the way Morrisville operates. We will never get out of this hole unless we change our way of thinking.

The scarcity mentality cares what other people have, while the abundance mentality doesn’t.

Sorry for the all caps. This is a copy paste.

MOST PEOPLE ARE DEEPLY SCRIPTED IN WHAT I CALL THE SCARCITY MENTALITY. THEY SEE LIFE AS HAVING ONLY SO MUCH, AS THOUGH THERE WERE ONLY ONE PIE OUT THERE. AND IF SOMEONE WERE TO GET A BIG PIECE OF THE PIE, IT WOULD MEAN LESS FOR EVERYBODY ELSE.

THE SCARCITY MENTALITY IS THE ZERO-SUM PARADIGM OF LIFE. PEOPLE WITH A SCARCITY MENTALITY HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME SHARING RECOGNITION AND CREDIT, POWER OR PROFIT – EVEN WITH THOSE WHO HELP IN THE PRODUCTION. THE ALSO HAVE A A VERY HARD TIME BEING GENUINELY HAPPY FOR THE SUCCESS OF OTHER PEOPLE.

THE ABUNDANCE MENTALITY, ON THE OTHER HAND, FLOW OUT OF A DEEP INNER SENSE OF PERSONAL WORTH AND SECURITY. IT IS THE PARADIGM THAT THERE IS PLENTY OUT THERE AND ENOUGH TO SPARE FOR EVERYBODY. IT RESULTS IN SHARING OF PRESTIGE, OF RECOGNITION, OF PROFITS, OF DECISION MAKING. IT OPENS POSSIBILITIES, OPTIONS, ALTERNATIVES, AND CREATIVITY.

The terms “scarcity mentality” and “abundance mentality” were coined by Stephen Covey in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:

Too bad we live in what's known as a scarcity economy.

To bad we have a scarcity of highly effective people.

The union seekers will take down the school

Anonymous said...

Union seekers? What are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

Ask them what their up to the ones seeking union school gone

Anonymous said...

In my humble opinion, you are a sneaky conniving ass.

Anonymous said...

Ask them, they dont care

Anonymous said...

Who's them? Stop beating around the bush. North Korea is more decipherable.

Beware the union seekers...

As a ticket to success, I offer a suggestion. Spend your own money to put it on political yard signs. Use Morrisville Blue and Gold school colors to make it seem like you give 2 pantloads about something other than your taxes. Use tiny fonts no one can read without an electron microscope. Leave them up around town, littering the landscape for months on end.

School Board Do not renew Bill Ferrara's contract. He is not the man to be the Districts leader.
You can also get Rid of Paul DeAngelo while you are at it.

Also, look at music program and salaries.

Dr Scott is one of the highest paid teachers, but what does he teach?

Anonymous said...

He teaches Music,History and should get what he earns. He has a Doctorate Degree. Dr. Scott is an asset to the District ask the Students he TEACHES. Come see the play he produces each year and then get back to the blog and let it know if he earns his keep.

Regarding post above.

Music is an extra and could be cut, just like art.

The plays are great but could be produced by someone with less than Dr Scotts credentials.

I have spoken to a few students who were taught History by Dr Scott, including ones who were told Black History is not part of the curriculum so he didn't need to teach it. Although he changed his tune, this is not the type of response I would have expected from someone in a district with so many Black students.

If there were not so many cuts Black History could be offered as a course. Don't blame the teachers they have to deal with the tools and resourses that Bill Ferrara gives them, he cut almost all the electives and if he gets his way Art and Music and Shop will be gone like Health which the District also does not teach anymore. But he gave himself and others like Paul DeAngelo, Ms. B, great insurance and retirement packages at the expense of the STUDENTS and TAXPAYERS along with the 200K wasted on his buddy Don Harm to advise the District.

Perhaps this information shouldn't be received second hand.

Morrisville is lucky to have Dr. Scott.

"I have spoken to a few students"
I agree, if it is thought that there is a problem with an aspect of the school district, talking to a few students won't do anything besides spread information that has been obtained through another party. If you want to know something about Dr. Scott, ask him. If you have questions about courses take that up with administration. They will welcome you well reasoned input.

Oh please what do you expect....No one in MEMHS in charge of the district, the gov't calls the shots....Just google CommonCore and read instead of typing and redistributing credit where credit doesn't belong...I can't believe what I see on this blog, it's amazing how people who lack knowledge, can sound like experts, and create a posse of more who have no idea what they are typing about! apparently no one bothers to really get to know some of the good teachers, who know what is happening and aren't happy about the system. Educate Yourselves, that is what the internet is about. Please stop playing follow the leader, it will get you, as an individual, Lost & Left Behind! PS...I personal believe that if Mr. Scott is that educated, he should be teaching English. If we can't read, how will we understand the 180 steps to solve a math problem? how will we understand the complexities of science? Happy MLK Day to all!

there's a problem & more understanding is surfacing about the exact nature of the actual problem that's why no one is saying too much because the majority is just now realizing how where and why we are faced with the problems we have we are not unique the same problems are happening all over the nation we have power driven greed mongers that sit in higher places they control and decide what will be our future the people are getting angry and they are acting out in some places because they have finally had it surface and they know nothing can be done they are listening with their whole being not just their ears and their egos they know the truth it has reached their core we are down here and we are going to have to figure it out and we should stop fighting over the left overs and crumbs it will only get worse listen to the honest experts and strap on your battle fatigue and prepare for the final round GOT JESUS?!?He gives wisdom strength and victory to all who call out to Him thats all we need
LOVE He fills the empty with promise & abundant LIFE

Ah yes, remember it well. The "answer" you were supposed to buy when Ruthrauff, Hellmann CPA, Mihok, Ledger, Dreisbach, Sanford, Worob, Stout, Burger and the rest of Stay on Track were in charge and you thought you might have a Right To Know.....

Thank you school board members wives for all of your helpful responses.

May you also remain Anonymous.

I'd be surprised if your remark makes sense to anyone, including you.

Anonymous said...

Thank You School Board on your 6-2Vote last night.

Anonymous said...

What vote was it?

Anonymous said...

To not re-hire Bill Ferrara

Anonymous said...

Please hire a Superintendant that will put Morrisville Pride back in the school. Bill Ferrara killed any pride and tradition the school had. He cut more staff and programs and traditions than Edward Scissorhands.
