MORRISVILLEChristmas lights may have caused fire in Morrisville home

Posted: Sunday, January 5, 2014 2:30 pm | Updated: 3:41 pm, Sun Jan 5, 2014.

By ANTHONY DIMATTIA Staff writer

MORRISVILLE — A Sunday morning blaze that caused fire damage to the downstairs of a Morrisville home may have been caused by Christmas lights, Morrisville Fire Chief Matt Wiedenhaefer said.

Morrisville Fire Co. responded to a call of a chimney fire around 11:25 a.m. on Carolina Avenue and found fire coming from the front of the house, Wiedenhaefer said.

Fire crews controlled the blaze in about 30 minutes. No one was injured, the chief said.

"(Fire) crews made an aggressive attack on the fire," Wiedenhaefer added.

Wiedenhaefer said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation but suspects that Christmas lights may have caused the fire.

The home sustained fire damage to the downstairs and smoke damage to the upstairs, Morrisville Fire Marshal Robert Seward said.

A mother and a son living at the home were alerted to the fire by their dog and immediately left and called 911, Seward said.

The Red Cross will assist the homeowners, Wiedenhaefer said.

Numerous firefighters from the Morrisville, Falls, Edgely and Levittown fire companies were called to the scene, along with Morrisville police.

200,000 spent on the cornerstone to investigate pd, yet a part time officer was recently suspended to be fired and certain council members and manager are trying to protect him!!! Sounds like a cover up to me!! Ask question people!!! And pray that if he is reinstated that you never are a victim of his lies!!!!

Anonymous said...

Okay I'll ask questions, starting with you.

Who is the part time officer you're talking about?

What are some examples of his lies?

Which council members are trying to protect him?

How do you know these things?

Anonymous said...

To the poster writing accusations...

Has the cornerstone report been released to the public? Your number is incorrect.

You have pointed a finger at council members and the borough manager so please post your evidence.

I'm thinking you are a hit and run so you will not post anything to back up what you have said because your intention is merely to stir things up.

Anonymous said...

You know the officer
You know his lies
You know the council members

No. Not good enough. anonymous posters know what other anonymous posters know? Amazing. Nuts.

And you are?????

That last comment "not good enough" is pretty funny because all I see who posted it.It's not your name it's anonymous also. So if your so brave to ask the questions to comments. I'll ask the next question. Why no name mr or ms brave one?

Anonymous said...

Who is the one playing games and making accusations without backing them up? Not all are as into this garbage as you are. I don't care about identities but if you can't back up what you're saying it's more or less worthless.

If your not into the garbage then why the cause for the questions? And apparently you are because your the only one commenting on these comments.

I thought the "not enough" comment was an actual joke.

Oh that's right if he is fired than his lawsuit goes away and Cornerstone is proven to be a complete waste of the boroughs money! Shame on ANY council member who votes to keep this part time "at will" employee!! And if you have ever been arrested, or even given a ticket by him, get a laywer immediately!!!!

I was wondering that myself, also found it odd that Cicero ran out of there. Hmmm..... Maybe Bc he doesn't want to be involved in the BS!! Can't have an ex chief involved in a cover up!

Person a couple posts above, just wondering how you know details from an executive session which is not open to the public?

Anonymous said...

I was wondering the same thing. I watched the meeting but I have no idea what the exec session was about.

Anonymous said...

They should have brought in each candidate seperately asked them all the same questions at the meeting, then voted.

Anonymous said...

"Ted Parker's a good man. Nobody owns him, he'll do fine, doesn't put up with bs from anybody."

Although I don't understand the "nobody owns him" part, I agree, Ted Parker is a good man. He is a great addition to borough council. It is not unusual that a school board member move to council. It's unfortunate that someone felt so slighted at not being chosen that he and his friends are bashing council and Ted. I heard that the man not picked had quite a public tantrum at the meeting last night. I believe Ted's experience on school board makes him the clear choice.

Anonymous said...

I remember when a seat needed to be filled in the 3rd ward. Two final candidates were picked to interview. They both came to a council meeting and were interviewed while they sat at the tables in front of the dais. One of the candidates was Fred Kerner, who was not chosen to fill the seat at the time.

It would have been a good thing to do this, this time as well. I don't believe it's mandatory, but it may have been a good idea.

This may not have been done because the candidates did recently appear before council at a council meeting and spoke of their desire to be considered to fill the seat. At this same meeting, I think a couple of them gave council resumes.

Morrisville appoints school board director to council

Posted: Monday, January 6, 2014 10:23 pm | Updated: 1:12 am, Tue Jan 7, 2014.
By GEMA MARIA DUARTE Staff writer

As one Morrisville board fills, another is left with a vacancy.
School board Director Ted Parker was appointed Monday to the fourth ward council seat, left vacant by Dave Rivella, who was sworn in as borough mayor.
Parker will finish Rivella’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2015.
Such a move leaves the school board with the task of replacing Parker. His term expires in December 2015.
As soon as Parker was appointed, he turned to school board President Damon Miller, who was at the council meeting, and turned in his resignation effective immediately, Parker said after the meeting.
Parker was one of three residents who applied for Rivella’s council seat. The two others were Bryan Tomasulo and Kevin Larison.
However, during the council nomination, a fourth name was thrown in the ring. Councilman Victor Cicero nominated Pat Schell, who didn’t submit a letter of interest as required, according to officials.
As Parker was taking his seat on council after being sworn in, Tomasulo rushed to the public microphone to show his disappointment of council’s pick.
“Public comment is over,” a couple of council members said.
But Tomasulo ignored them, and kept making his point.
He was never called in for an interview or explained the process, Tomasulo said.
“I do have a problem with a school board member leaving when he was elected to serve that (and the district is) facing (nearly) a million dollar deficit. I just want to go on record to let everyone know that I was not contacted. I was not interviewed. I was not asked any questions, any options, nothing on how I can offer any help to the borough. I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very apparent that this borough is more concerned with holding on to the power they have instead of actually looking for some new blood, some new ideas, and some new life that the people of this borough can get behind.”
Parker’s appointment came after the regularly scheduled reorganization of council.

Anonymous said...

I watched the meeting. I don't know Mr. Tomasulo, but when I heard him last night, I could only think that council made the right decision in not putting this hot head in the seat.

Anonymous said...

He has quite a sense of entitlement. One, he should've known he wouldn't get the seat as an opponent to the majority. Two, he was speaking out of turn after public comment and could've been gaveled down or thrown out. He should be thankful he got more courtesy than that.

Anonymous said...

He lives too close to Holhenrichs he would've been his puppet.

Anonymous said...

I think the council continues to blunder processes which lead to public scrutiny. If the process is that each candidate is interviewed, then interview them. Ted Parker may well be the best candidate but it was known that it was his seat from the beginning. This is why people get fired up.

Anonymous said...

I agree, except people were saying it was Pat Schell's seat in the beginning. My sense is that if it isn't one thing it's another. If elaborate process was followed, it would have been something else people would fire up about. Don't give people that opening is good advice.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I heard that too. The problem with Pat was the ward would have demanded her immediate removal and the council knew that. As soon as Ted's name was brought up, everyone knew he would get it. Not to interview the other candidates was a huge oversight. (If they didn't). If this past voting election was any proof that people are getting tired of the SOS, the council continues to provide ample ammo. I also disagree about the "if not one thing, then it's another". It's about doing what's right. It's about trust. Lawsuits, reports, contracts. There is no one taking the lead. Maybe rivella is the guy, who knows.

Anonymous said...

There is alot of misdirected bitching by certain people who I get the impression will always bitch no matter what, but agree you should do the best approximation of what is right so the true bitchers for bitching sake will be marginalized in terms of widespread influence. I hope Ted will bring more right and process to council. I believe in him as a solid citizen.

Anonymous said...

I don't know him, but I hope he is successful. I think bitching is always the result of something. There are many shades of the truth and we all need to understand that.

Anonymous said...

I have faith in Ted Parker and Mayor Rivella. I don't see either of them putting our town at risk for more lawsuits by protecting any officers!

Anonymous said...

There is nothing anywhere that says the candidates have to be interviewed. It is not a job "opening" - it is an appointed position.
Those that lost should get over it and move on for the betterment of the town. You only make yourself look bad when you bad-mouth the very Council you wanted to be a part of.

Anonymous said...

For everyone's sake next time there's an opening advertize it and interview the candidates in public. It's professional and will cut some of the griping. Some, not all, some just love to gripe and thrive on misery and conspiracy.

Morrisville will advertise for improvement project again

Posted: Tuesday, January 7, 2014 2:59 pm | Updated: 12:12 am, Wed Jan 8, 2014.
By GEMA MARIA DUARTE Staff writer

The final word on some capital improvements around Morrisville will have to wait at least one more week.

The new council was expected to vote on the Johnson Controls project once again at Monday’s reorganization meeting, but resident Jane Burger said not so fast.

She argued that the council did not approve the recent advertisement of the project’s ordinance. So she requested that the item be delayed and the council follow the borough code’s advertising process.

After legal review and advice from the former and also the new solicitor, the council approved advertising the ordinance again and will vote on the project next week, likely on Monday.

“Under advice, we were told that we (did) not have to re-advertise or vote to re-advertise. That’s why we moved forward the way we did. But in order to avoid any trips to Harrisburg (if challenged) ... we are going this route. This way we won’t have any challenges,” council President Nancy Sherlock said.

The past year, Morrisville officials have been working with the consulting firm Johnson Controls on plans for environmental improvements such as lighting at the library and public works facility, streetlights and traffic lights, as well as the first upgrades to borough hall since it was built in 1948.

In late August, the majority of the council voted to fund the $1.2 million project, which involves a TD Bank loan with an interest rate of 2.99 percent for 17 years. But former mayor Rita Ledger vetoed the vote. Soon after, there was uncertainty about whether the veto was valid because some in the administration argued that the move was made one day after the 10-day deadline called for in the borough code.

Burger, along with three other residents, took the veto case to the Department of Community and Economic Development, which will oversee final approval for the project’s loan.

By Oct. 29, the group of residents received an answer. The DCED upheld Ledger’s veto, so the project didn’t move forward.
But now, the new council can vote on the ordinance again.

Before the August council vote, advertising of the project’s ordinance was approved, so the solicitor advised borough Manager Tom Bates that council approval wasn’t needed again.

Monday’s vote to advertise the project ordinance passed 6-2, with council members Debbie Smith and Todd Sanford voting against it.
“I’d like to say I have not been in favor of how this whole project has been carried out,” Smith said.
Throughout the process, Smith, Sanford and former councilwoman Eileen Dreisbach argued that Bates has not shared project bids and has signed contracts without council approval.

"Jane, you ignorant sl@t!" What is the point to your shenanigans? Yes, once again it appears you are delaying the inevitable just so you can feel important! What is the point? Get over yourself and fade away with whatever dignity you can salvage. As for the unholy trio, one down, two yet to go, but any hope of salvaging any dignity for any of you three is long gone. Your asshattery went far beyond the pale.

It is very unfortunate for Morrisville that some cannot see past their own witch hunts to let progress take place.

Two years of this crap we have to put up with. Two years of lies and twisting the truth. And our town continues to suffer.
Disgraceful.

I saw these two posts on facebook and thought I would share them because they are about flooding in Morrisville.

Post #1:
Hi folks,
I have spoken with Morrisville’s Emergency Management Coordinator. The following information has been relayed to me:

• There is a little water on River Road, near the filtration plant, above Morrisville Borough.
• Trenton, N.J. is seeing the worst flooding from this situation.
• The water level has been and will continue to be monitored.
• The water level has gone down a little and it has remained steady for the past few hours.
• Upon speaking with me he had just left a meeting with the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission and he reported that they are also monitoring the water levels and are not planning on closing any of the bridges between Morrisville Borough and Trenton.

If I receive any changes in information, I will let you know asap.
Stay safe (and warm)

Dave Rivella

Post #2:

Update
Delaware River as it pertains to flooding in Morrisville Borough

A few minutes ago I met with Morrisville’s Emergency Management Coordinator.

I was told that the water has gone down approximately six inches.
However, if Morrisville Borough does get flooding during this event, it will most likely be between the hours of 9 P.M. and 1 A.M. The biggest chance of flooding would occur at the canal spillway, (near the water tower). This is because the flapper that goes under Delmorr Ave and empties into the Delaware River may not be able to open, causing the canal to overflow its banks. Because this situation has occurred in the past, Morrisville Borough is being proactive in that there are two pumps ready to use and the hoses are already in place. If the canal does begin to look like an overflow may occur, the pumps will be set up and the water will be pumped into the river, as has been done in the past, to stop the water from travelling down Delmorr Avenue.

Respectfully,

Dave Rivella

Your blog sucks more than mine! Whah! Well folks, I've got news for you, most blogs suck! Giving regular people an outlet for their voice sounds great in principle, but when we see it in practice, it becomes glaringly evident that it mostly provides a new outlet for the idiocy that used to be confined to holiday family get togethers and corner bars. It is a little scary that some people buy into the group-think, lock, stock and barrel.

Anonymous said...

People can complain about this blog being anon until they're blue in the face, but that RTK continues to slander people. The so called proof that was posted is nothing more then copies of lawsuits. What is that proof of - a Matlock wannabe?
Why can't people just keep their traps shut when they don't have all the facts?

I'm guessing John Perry doesn't.

Anonymous said...

I was happy to see council get down to business.

There were 3 people who put in for the 4th ward seat. Two are people that are unknown on community involvement except for recent public comments at the meetings. and one is well known to the community. Now why would council delay getting the seat filled?
Proof that the right choice was made was when one who didn't get picked had a temper tantrum, disrupted the meeting, stormed out and then came back in and sat sulking. Do you really think time should have been wasted interviewing him. Doesn't look like we missed out on anything. The other person is in he same camp.

We don't need any more hotheads or babies. Parker is a known quantity.

All of those grippers are just over the top angry. Maybe they need to get a little more something something. Or increase their med dosage.

Anonymous said...

Why should they be interviewed? I have followed this and the other pages for a long time but this is exactly the mentality that creates the divide. Why? Because they are tax paying citizens looking to fill an open seat on the council. Why does everyone who is "involved" feel that they are special or have some sort of privilege over people trying to get involved? It is almost like a, "play by my/our rules" or else. Its sad and funny at the same time.

Anonymous said...

Because we need council members who have a clue. Those who have no idea of what is going on should run for office and let the voters decide. That's democracy.

Otherwise, I want my council members to choose someone they know can do a good job. If someone is known to them and has a track record they can support, then their choice is apparent. It is not up to Council to give a new face a try when they have an experienced candidate. That is for the voters to decide.

These other two came out if nowhere. If they want the community to support them, including Council, get involved, do something!!! Show us what you've got - we may think your worth a try and vote you in. But do something positive, show you can work with others as a team.

We don't need anymore complainers and watchdogs, they are every where. We need people on council who actually work! not tear down.

I would take the likes of Smith and Sanford much better, if they gave alternatives. But they and their supporters have not offered up any solutions to Morrisville's problems. We can all find typos like Jane burger, but what does that get us? NOTHING!

If you want community support, you have to work within the community. Garner your support and run. But run on what you can do, not on what you don't like. That means nothing to voters and is why the voters shot those candidates down.

Anonymous said...

I agree.
If I had to choose between 3 people to do a job, and two of them have no resume that supports the position, but one does and is good at it. Why would I choose who someone doesn't?

Anonymous said...

How do u know what the other two do or don't have considering they were never given a chance to say what experiences they had.

Anonymous said...

I actually don't disagree with anything you just said. Have the courtesy and respect to do due diligence in the process and speak to the other candidates. The gesture alone would do wonders. Instead, lets continue to stoke the fires under the borough.

I'd like all of the current council members more if they knew what they were doing. Anyone know the reason the solicitor was fired?

Anonymous said...

Good question, also anyone know the reason he was hired?

Anonymous said...

When I watched a recent meeting, I thought I heard two of the three people who wanted the seat, speak during public comment about themselves. On the same evening, the same two people gave something to council. It could have been resumes, but I'm not sure. I'm not trying to argue or point any fingers, just telling what I remember. It really isn't that unusual of a situation. I would have liked to see interviews, but I'm not annoyed that it didn't happen either.

Anonymous said...

Let me get this straight. Let's say you wanted to have your kitchen redone in your house. One guy did a great job on your neighbor's kitchen, and he has examples of other past work - and you like it. Two others do not have any examples of their work have no local experience, but they tell you they'll do a great job and can offer new ideas in kitchen remodeling.
What's your choice?

There is screaming that Council takes too long. But when they act decisively because they need a full board, people scream they are rushing things.

I have seen many people talk a good game and then fizzle out. Talk is cheap. I want evidence.

Anonymous said...

Again how do you know the qualifications of the other two. Just because you don't know, doesn't mean they are not a good choice.

Also if is funny it took less then 20 mins to fill Mr. Rivella's seat, but a year later and still no police chief.

Anonymous said...

It may be just me, but I have no idea what one thing has to do with the other. One is a council appointment and the other is the employment of a police chief. They are completely different circumstances.

Anonymous said...

I am sick of all this he said she said peanut gallery of tom-foolery in the police department and all the know-it-all speculators and bloviators gum-flapping about it. What a monumental embarrassment to Morrisville!!

Anonymous said...

It seems to me that in Morrisville there has been a shift towards the negative in the past few months, since about September. Since that time it has been one witch hunt after another.

Because all information is not gathered in making determinations, speculations have run wild.

When there are unknown factors, blame is cast here and there. When the process for something is not understood, when information is not understood, when some can't seem to figure out that they simply do not have all the information on any subject, when rumors spread and become facts, when bullying is promoted ...... it is a monumental embarrassment.

So stop! Become part of the solutions instead of promoting and being part of a downward spiral. Try being pleasant and respectful, even if you have preconceived ideas about someone or a situation.

I have the feeling most of the people who are pointing fingers don't even know the people they are accusing of so much these days and that the information they are spreading came from third parties and not the actual people being talked about. Stop listening to rumors, side agendas, people with old grudges and get to know the people you are bashing if for no other reason than you will get your information from the actual person and not from outside sources who have little idea of what they are talking about.

Anonymous said...

You got that right!

Anonymous said...

Well said!!

Anonymous said...

That's right.

Anonymous said...

So why are they advertising the JCI contract again? Did someone say they wanted it done right just incase it was brought to Harrisburg. If it was done right from the start they had nothing to worry about. Oh and I believe they changed the name of it also.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry council former members will hold your hand and help you do things the right way.

Anonymous said...

I think the people should choose. Council already has enough friends of friends on there side we need outspoken willing to speak and step up for what right kind of people on there

Anonymous said...

Again, judging based on hearsay and not because of discussions with the people being accused. News flash, the people you see on council DID STEP UP. They just don't follow an agenda of misinformation and half truths.

Anonymous said...

Want to know about the capitol improvements project? Ask. Don't go to public comment and bash, yell, point fingers, ask without being disrespectful, stop trying to bully them from the podium. Would you let someone treat you that way? I don't think so. Yet council takes it respectfully. Try having enough respect for Morrisville to respect it's residents, even those who sit on the dais. Try communicating with them, not just grandstanding at a council meeting. Go to the source, without using condemnation in your voice. Treat them how you would demand to be treated yourself. This should have been done to begin with and would have been if it was answers that were really wanted. But they weren't, because it was the complaining that has been the goal, not the answers. Try caring enough about Morrisville to behave like adults.

Anonymous said...

Yes we know, it's a grand conspiracy and you are trying to save the town by bringing it down.

Anonymous said...

All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Everyone knows this blog is run by the Rivellas. If everyone spent less time bullying and more time doing what's right for the residents of Morrisville, perhaps this town would be a better place. Instead, egos put Dave Rivella, Tom Bates and other council members (not Smith and Sanford) on a pedestal and it becomes a pissing contest. Stop bullying, stop name calling and get to work for the residents!

Jon has made it clear that it's his. You are just spreading more misinformation. I agree with so many posts above. It would be a good thing for Morrisville if there was less speculating and more reaching out to meet & converse with a person instead of spreading hearsay.

Anonymous said...

I like the post that advised that people treat their neighbors with respect - ask relevant questions to gain the information.

These are your neighbors. Why do you assume nefarious motives? Find out the truth first.
If the angry people did that, they will see that the majority of council were voted in were to get new faces and encourage progress. The old rule in Morrisville always just wanted to keep the status quo and let things crumble. (I predict the MMA will be exposed as a huge mess). It worked for a while, but lack of action eventually leads to stagnation. So, voters gradually voted in (it takes time because of election cycles), a fresh perspective. We have been working to do just what the angry people are calling for!

Everyone should work with all of the community who has been struggling to make things go right. Demonstrate your commitment If you are truly interested in doing good for the town, you will find that you actually agree with the voters who put this new Council majority in. Let's see if we can make this work, not put effort into obstruction or bashing reputations. Nothing is perfect, things always need tweaking. It takes time and hard work.

Are you willing to put in effort? Name calling on social media, playing gotcha, temper tantrums and screaming at Council are non-productive, divisive and harmful tactics. They are easy to do, and don't get us anything but bitterness. We all have to live here together.

Anonymous said...

Thank you - that was well said.

I also have to agree with the poster that spoke of the documents posted about Mr. Seward. Those documents are not proof. They are copies of lawsuits. Anyone can file a lawsuit. The words in those documents are accusations, not proof. I don't know why they are allowed if the person running that RTK wanted to maintain any sense of integrity.

The police department has never gone without someone being in charge of it.

My take on the hiring of a new chief is this. I understand that Morrisville insurance carrier initially didn't want the borough to hire a chief immediately, then they wanted an interim chief, then they agreed to the hire of a chief. It is somewhat surprising at the length of time it has taken to get us to where we are although I do understand that the process came to council's portion of it just a short time ago. Then they weren't allowed to hire until after the reorg meeting because of the lame duck laws. Which puts us where we are today.

Did the clown show hire a police chief yet? Or are they still embezzling our money??

"Poster above who mentioned council takes it respectfully."

You know you just lopped all of council in together. They are individual people.

I took the football thing as a joke to lighten the room that was tossed out there but didn't land properly and nothing more.

I agreed with the post that talked about respect. The way we treat each other is important. It shouldn't matter if people are sitting in a public seat, collecting our trash, educating our children, delivering our mail, etc. How people are treated matters. Look at the behavior of the people who talk at public comment. Would you accept someone treating you like that? Is that okay? Should anyone treat anyone like that? No, you wouldn't accept it, yet they do.

When they do it, it's ok. They dish it out great, it's the taking it part they have trouble with.

Jon, time to kill this blog. It seems to be nothing but trolling and apologists anymore. It used to have some good posts, but these are so few and far between these days, I can't tell the signal from the noise. Let the trolls stick to their FB Hate pages. Meanwhile, my support for the new leadership direction in town will continue. I am glad to see some of the obstructionist, backwards thinking replaced by some people willing to move the town into the future instead of angrily clinging to some false-nostalgic past.

All it takes is a couple of people inside that group to report it and that group is history.

Go to the page and near the top is a little gear right under the cover photo and next to the message button. Click report page and choose the best option. From what I read "It's harassing me or someone I know" will definitely work.

I can't agree with the poster above more. The problem is that those are the type of people we just threw out of power, the Hellmanns, the Burgers, the Mihoks, the Dreisbachs, and all those reactionary people who kept Morrisville dark for decades. At least we have new people in now who can move Morrisville forward.

Perhaps Mr Stamps is referring to Mrs Dreisbach since she did not run for reelection. But I do agree that the voters have had something to do with the ousting of Burger, Hellmann, Mihok, etc. with the help of candidates offering an alternative to that kind of thinking.

Good - let the 8 or so in town that constantly post be alone with their Bristol compatriots, brought on to help them win the next election cycle.

For groups so concerned about "keeping it in Morrisville", an awful lot of people outside the Borough are very vocal on both pages. Pretty obvious most people on there are just spreading outright lies sometimes just to try to create a hole they want to fill themselves...

Wayne Stamps said...

Maybe you should know who ran for council before you comment and don't know what you are talking about.

Anonymous said...

Don't tell me what I know and don't know, I know who ran for council and who didn't. 2013 council elections;

1st ward, 2 (Todd sanford and Corinne Kronagel ) ran for 2 open seats and won them

2nd ward no open seats

3rd ward, 2 (Justin Bowers and Fred Kerner ) ran for 1 open seat and Fred Kerner won

4th ward, Vic Cicero ran un-opposed for 1 open seat and won

Your Mom didn't run for re-election in the 1st ward. I don't live there, and can't vote there, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy she stepped down; or are you going to tell me how I feel too?

So why did members of Council allow themselves to be bullied into accepting Ted Parker, a neighbor and close friend of Mayor Dave Rivella? Why did they not interview the other candidates, and allow themselves to be steamrolled by "Dave?" Dave Rivella is a weak Mayor at best. Disagree? 57 percent of Morrisville said NO to Dave Rivella, as he received just 43 percent of the vote. 43 percent, for an incumbent, well entrenched, heavily funded councilman running against a weak Republican candidate and a write in. Even more telling is the fact that Dave received only 186 of 380 votes cast IN HIS OWN WARD! HIS OWN WARD said NO! So why did Council buckle to the 43 percent Mayor? Why did the Borough Council President allow the 43 percent Mayor to run the entire Council meeting?
Another interesting tidbit-the new solicitor, hired at that Council meeting, donated $500 to the 43 percent Mayor one week before the election. Funny how that worked out for them. Interested parties should review finance info at the Board of Election website re:Democratic PAC Contributions.
Keep this in mind the next time the 43 percent Mayor smirks as you ask a question at the Council meetings. Remind him 57 percent of Morrisville said NO to Dave Rivella.

Anonymous said...

He could be smirking because ....he knows one when he sees one because he is one?

Anonymous said...

Ted Parker and Dave Rivella are not close friends. You may want to believe this to fit your narrative, but you are mistaken.

Anonymous said...

Hey 57 Percent and his/her friends

Get a clue. Council members don't run a reorg meeting until the president of council has been chosen. At that time, the president can run the meeting (which she did). You can't have someone who might get the position of president run the meeting before they get the position. That's the wrong way.
Rivella didn't run the whole meeting. Check your facts.

Honestly, I don't mind if people have a difference of opinion and maybe sometimes asking questions will get an answer that needs to be found out but when making these comments without any idea of the rules of govt like speaking out of turn when public comment is over or demanding your questions be answered (ever think they can't because of that information could be executive session only?) really puts puts a group of people who might do good things look foolish.

Stop looking for a conspiracy under every rock. Do your homework and then ask your questions following the rules without the grandstanding. Understand why personnel and litigation questions may not be able to be answered (you want more lawsuits just so you get answers to your questions?). Understand the process before criticizing it because it only makes you look ignorant. Don't like what's going on then get involved and change it by supporting a candidate or running yourself not by thinking everything is a conspiracy.

I'm wondering why? Any thoughts? 106 went behind the curtain, and didn't vote, almost 10%!!!! let's not forget about them.

Anonymous said...

Yes that's right...! Some don't like the truth. RTK won't post anything that is not truth. When will we see some documentation here?

Anonymous said...

I can agree that at times this page does get a bit childish. Take Mr. Stamps for instance. Of course he is going to defend Eileen if they are related and I would expect that. I wouldn't bash him for it. She's a relative, I get that. His responses are based on emotion and represent information he has received from someone he trusts. So move on.

I don't agree that the RTK page only posts the truth or that the comments are honest. I have seen a lot of written there that's not correct. I have chosen to take what I need and let the liars, speculators and manipulators converse among themselves.

I am not surprised that the RTK page is now private. I could see it going in that direction when there was censorship of the right to know.

Even if you didn't, Dave is Morrisville's mayor. Either try to support the community or help those who support the community. Election day is over. You have a choice to stop being a destructive force in Morrisville so just do it. Stop bashing everything and consider lending your thoughts, abilities, and time to helping those working to improve Morrisville. Stop bashing your neighbor. Try working towards something and not against it.

Anonymous said...

Some of it is passion for the town - not necessarily a bad thing.
The angry ones are the ones that year down anything anyone else does and bring nothing to the table as an alternative. That is what I am sick of and that is all that RTK is. People discrediting every single step council makes with no proof or reason, other than their own political gain.
THAT is what is sad.

When peoples pockets begin to be affected, only then will you see people come out. Like we have seen back in 2005-06. The people who are coming out now, are people who care about others, people who have elderly relatives in this town, people who have young children in this town, people who live under the 60,000 annual income with family of 4,people on fixed income(just to put it another way)....there are many different reasons that each and every individual on "those facebook pages" are there.. Don't think It's an agenda or political reasons. It's just genuine people who have been doing their daily life, and realizing that times are getting worse in every aspect of life! It is not about hating anyone on those pages, it's about coming together as a town, working with every citizen in mind, and making our town a better place, so others may not think it "too bad" to own a property here. I find a lot of ego-driven victims (very twisted) when I visit this blog...and that is a shame that some, can be that stuck on themselves, in a very unhealthy way, thinking this is all about them.!

I saw that too. Disgraceful. What exactly is the point of that page - oh right, to make everyone paranoid about a crime wave that doesn't exist so they can swoop in and save everyone from something that isn't there.

To the poster who wrote
"When peoples pockets begin to be affected..."
Thank you. I understand what you are saying. Please understand that although you may have concern behind your own motives, it isn't the same for everyone. Some do have genuine concern in posting, but others do have agendas and some of them are politically based. Some things talked about have been pretty harsh, accusations and assumptions play a large part in the dialog that makes up the RTK page as well. It was nice to see that the administrator is now asking for proof of what is being said, although it still seems selective. I am disturbed by the private setting on a page that is called Right To Know.

I thank you for your concern for our community and your willingness to communicate those concerns. I would like to offer you this. Put yourself and your own family members in the place of some of the people being vilified on that page on a regular basis and see if you feel the same way.

Morrisville moves forward with improvement project

Posted: Monday, January 13, 2014 9:41 pm | Updated: 11:51 am, Tue Jan 14, 2014.
By GEMA MARIA DUARTE Staff writer

After months of political jockeying that delayed a $1.2 million capital improvement plan in Morrisville, the project began moving forward Monday.

Council voted 5-2 in favor of the loan ordinance for the project that involves upgrades to the borough library, public works and borough hall.

Council members Debbie Smith and Todd Sanford voted no. Councilman Victor Cicero was not present at the special meeting that was scheduled for the approval of the ordinance.

The project is being financed through a TD Bank loan with an interest rate of 2.99 percent for 17 years.

Throughout the project’s process, Smith, Sanford and former
Councilwoman Eileen Dreisbach have argued that borough Manager Tom Bates has not shared project bids and has signed contracts without council approval. They have voted against the project all along.

After the meeting, council President Nancy Sherlock said now that the ordinance has been approved, all the project’s information, including the bids, will be available to the public Tuesday. She added that the contract with the consulting firm Johnson Controls has been available since February.

At Monday’s meeting, neither Smith nor Sanford said anything. They simply voted against it. But the public didn’t remain quiet. Before the vote, resident Jane Burger provided the council with a list of about nine points she considers to be wrong with legal procedures the borough is taking in moving forward with the project, including the financing.
Burger, a former borough councilwoman, said she’d like improvements around town, but all done following the law.

Sherlock told Burger her points will be reviewed.

The past year, Morrisville officials have been working with Johnson Controls on plans for environmental improvements such as lighting at the library and public works facility, streetlights and traffic lights, as well as the first upgrades to borough hall since it was built in 1948.

Work will begin after all the loan paperwork is completed, Bates said after the meeting.

She'd like the improvements only if she was in control. Sorry Jane, it's become a case of mind over matter. We no longer mind, because you no longer matter.
