Board delays approval of preliminary budget

Morrisville School District's tentative budget for 2011-2012 school year adoption has been pushed to May.
According to the district's budget calendar, the tentative budget was supposed to be adopted at Wednesday's board meeting.
But that didn't happen because it's not finalized. The district's budget has a shortfall
of more than $2 million.
The preliminary budget must be approved in June.
Board members said during the meeting that holding the budget up is the cost from Bucks County Technical High School for the approximate 51 students who attend the Bristol Township school. The tech school hasn't finalized its numbers either, they said.
William Ferrara, acting superintendent, said there are other factors delaying the budget process, but did not go into details.
Parent Jon Perry said during the public portion of the meeting that the proposed budget has been "around since January, so there's been three full months to prepare a revised budget."
Perry, who is not a school board candidate in the May primary election but isn't a fan of the majority of the board, continued, "Tonight is the last board meeting before the May 17 primary election. There's a $2.5 million-plus budget deficit, and lots of uncertainty about what programs, sports and activities will be cut to close this huge gap. People need to know what's going to be cut so they can plan accordingly. I think it's deceptive and shows a lack of courage and openness to keep the public guessing about budget and program cuts until after the May 17 (primary) election and probably into June or beyond."
School board members didn't respond to Perry's comments.

"School board members didn't respond to Perry's comments."

They don't respond to ANY comments. This line could be kept in every newspaper article talking about the Stop the School-Stay on Track-Stay on Coarse-Taxpayers party school board.

Too bad Hellmann's shameless blatant on-camera electioneering at the end of the meeting didn't make the papers too.

Yeah, we can't put out a budget because of the Tech School. HORSE PUCKY!

Tech accounts for maybe $200k of a $2.5 million gap.

Yeah, we can't do a budget because <8% of the budget gap has some uncertainty in it. We might not be able to nail our Tech share estimate down to within $20k or so. What a bunch of bull.

Yet somehow we were able to estimate what our Tech share would be in the January preliminary budget.

Yet somehow other sending districts were able to do it.

Like the ones mentioned in Hellmann and Worob's pre-scripted banter last night. You know why Hellmann and Worob were able to mention newspaper articles about what some other area districts are cutting?

Because they had the guts to be open and put it out there to the public and the media already and not try to sidestep it until after the May 17 election.

More than anything, I can't stand the intellectual dishonesty of this School Board majority.

You accidentally typed the word "intellectual."
Yep, I'm a dick.
But I'm not dicking people over in pursuit of power.

Thank you, that's very helpful. To the Stay on Coarse people who hired you.

I also asked what’s going on with the $30,000 in new doors installed at Grandview back in February that weren’t supposed to be installed? Last I heard the old doors were sitting out by a dumpster.

Nuthin'.

Gayle Haug commented about the unfairness of the district hiring out of district kids for summer maintenance work when there are qualified Morrisville kids interested.

Nuthin'.

"You know why Hellmann and Worob were able to mention newspaper articles about what some other area districts are cutting?"

Because they were busy researching newspaper articles instead of working on finalizing the budget?

Just sayin'

Because they concentrate on political theatrics and not the task at hand?

How clueless do you have to be not to realize that referring to these newspaper articles illustrates that other districts have been more open, honest, and timely about their budgets?

Does financial gain include measuring the tax money he saves on his multiple Morrisville rentals? How many of his renters have seen their rents lowered because of the tax changes in Morrisville?

Dunno, I suppose lawyers would have to figure that out. Why do we have to have a School Board President like Hellman who's always skirting that fine line between legality and illegality?? Legal or not, either way it's unethical.

BTW, we're cowards because we're anonymous. Bill Farrell sez so. Though wouldn't you rather be an ethical coward than an unethical School Board member??

boycott all businesses that support the stay on course ticket they don't care about our kids or town why support them

For some reason and I don't want to name names, I find that I don't patronize some of these businesses anyway because I didn't like the service/experience I had when I did.
Most businesses are just trying to make a living and not tick off people who would intimidate and harass them if they didn't put out a certain groups sign or fliers or let opponents hold an event there.

I know of one business that makes money off a kids sport program but wants to sell those same kids to the lowest bidder !!!!!!!!
