JANUARY 28, 2010 (YES YOU'RE READING THIS RIGHT, 2010, NOT 2011) PRESS RELEASE. SEE LAST LINE.
Update: The M.R. Reiter Elementary School MORRISVILLE—No decision has been made on the future of the M.R. Reiter Elementary School, which was closed after a furnace explosion in December, 2008. The Morrisville School Board voted to continue the school closing for the upcoming school year at a public meeting on July 29, 2009 and reconfigure the two district schools –Morrisville High School and Grandview Elementary School to accommodate the displaced M.R. Reiter students. Board President William Hellmann said the board’s primary concern, “as always,” is the safety and welfare of the children. The school directors opted to divide the high school into a 4-8 Intermediate school and a 9-12 High School and also do major renovations to the building. The planned change at Grandview Elementary allowed the district to add M.R. Reiter’s K-3 students to Grandview and move the fourth and fifth grade classes to the Intermediate School. While Grandview remains a kindergarten through third grade facility, the district entered into a two-year agreement to lease eight modular classrooms equipped with bathroom facilities for the Grandview School from the Mobilease company. The fourth and fifth grades at Grandview were moved to the High School Intermediate School beginning with the 2009-10 School Year. A public hearing was held on the future of the M.R. Reiter School, but no decision has been made, due to inspection schedules and an outstanding insurance matter resulting from the furnace explosion. The insurance claim for M.R. Reiter now exceeds $1 million, according to Paul DeAngelo, district business administrator. More information on the future of the school is forthcoming.
This Jan 2009 Emergency Resolution is supposed to end when the insurance claim ends. 28 mos later, is the insurnce claim done yet or is board still running on Emergency Powers?
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby Declared by the Board of School Directors of the School District of Borough of Morrisville that an emergency exists by virtue of the explosion at M.R. Reiter on December 13, 2008 and the Board of School Directors and the Administration of the School District of Borough of Morrisville, at the direction of the Board, are hereby Authorized to make emergency expenditures through the duration of the insurance claim to address and ameliorate said emergency and to take all necessary actions to carry this Resolution into effect.
"172 combined years in morrisville, what the hell does that mean, their all old and grumpy?"
It means they watched as the town began to slide; had no solutions; recruited and propped up lousy divisive leadres; participated in the proliferation of rental properties with tenants they deep down disdain; and are really only interested in protecting their own little pieces of turf. Their maximum leader advises not investing a dime in morrisville. They know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Where does the 172 years comes from, an SOC flier?
Good comments/questions about MRReiter. I don't know when the additional information about MRReiter's future is forthcoming. 28 months is a long time to hold your breath. My guess is MRReiter's future is in the past. My understanding is that the insurance money wasn't used to repair/replace the furnace, so it's currently not a very viable building for humans. I don't think the damaged chimney was repaired either - is that correct?
Nor do I know if the insurance claim is settled or if the emergency resolution is no longer in effect. I don't recall any action to rescind the emergency resolution, so I suppose it's still in effect.
Maybe it will end up like the "temporary" tax PA imposed on wine and liquor to help with recovery from the 1936 Johnstown Flood. 75 years later, long after its original purpose was served, it's still in effect.
Please please normal nonrabid partisans come forward, Mihoks probably chomping at the bit to be judge of elections again. She'll count up them votes nice and good....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
