NEWTOWN TWP. — The afternoon was a virtual smorgasbord, a mix of the good, the not so good, and the downright bizarre.
Zjamir Ibezim scored three touchdowns and intercepted a pass, while Jimmie Miller contributed two scores as Morrisville rolled over host George School, 34-14, Saturday afternoon in a nonleague encounter that served as the season opener for both schools.
The efforts of Ibezim and Miller, as impressive as they were, were overshadowed by a fourth-quarter incident that saw two Morrisville players ejected for fighting -- with each other.
The conflict erupted with 7:44 left in the game and the Bulldogs comfortably in front, 34-7. On a third-and-12 situation from the George School 22-yard line, Morrisville quarterback Elighar Reynolds carried on a keeper off the left side and was stacked up.
After the whistle ended the play, he began scuffling on the ground with one of his teammates, while Zach McIntyre, a third Bulldog, attempted to intervene.
After things cooled off, all three players were sent to the sidelines — McIntyre for one play, his two teammates for good.
The Bulldogs were assessed a pair of 15-yard penalties and gave the ball up on downs after the next snap.
But long before the scuffle, Morrisville had the game in hand. The Bulldogs (1-0) took a 16-0, first-quarter lead when Ibezim scored on runs of 4 and 3 yards.
The Bulldogs were dominant up front against a smaller George School team that had only 20 players in uniform, had had just two weeks of practice, and had not scrimmaged prior to Saturday.
Miller's 5-yard run made it a 22-0 game with 5:54 left until halftime.
George School (0-1) was able to move the ball after coach John Gleeson shifted gears and moved Evan Clinton from quarterback to wide receiver, while inserting Christian Sparacio under center.
Sparacio promptly found Clinton with a 53-yard bomb down the right sideline to get the hosts on the board, but Miller's 59-yard gallop on the next snap made it a 28-7 game at halftime.
The second half was played on a more level playing field.
Ibezim scored his third touchdown of the game from 6 yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter.
"We rode the guys who were doing well," said Morrisville coach Bill Quill. "Then we switched it up.
"We had to sit a couple guys early for discipline reasons but, when they came in, they stepped it up and they played well."
Clinton scored his second touchdown for the Cougars on a 5-yard run with 2:23 left.
"The first half, we made a lot of mistakes on tackling." Gleeson said. "The second half, they came out and made a lot more stops.
"We started to get the offense going with the passing game. We have two kids who can throw the ball."

Not a bad way to start a season, except for the intrasquad fighting. Teamwork, fellas, teamwork.
Go Bulldogs!

Why would 2 players get in a fist fight when they are winning by 20 points? Do the coaches have any control of the players? I want to see what kind of punishment these kids get for embarrising the team and town. Hopefully we are not going to try to top the bounty bowl of last year. Learn how to coach kids, its not all about the W's.

They were obviously acting out a gridiron pantomime symbolic of life in Morrisville where some feel compelled to slug it out even when they're on the same team, while others stand on the sidelines and act like they're just so above it all.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

The peacemakers sit out one play. The rest are out of the game. Till next week.

We are talkin football! You don't get in fist fights with your teamaates. You are brothers and play together your teammate is not the enemy. It cost us 2 players for the next game, a leagtue game.

Some of the other posts were getting metaphorical or biblical.
It is a brainless move for teammates to fight. They should stew on it all week and while they're grabbing some aluminum pine.

As a person who played the game all I can say is "it happens" not that anything makes it right. But remember these are not men playing the game not pros, they need to learn from their mistake and it's up to the coaching staff to make sure they do.
