MORRISVILLE — Penalties, missed tackles, and lack of execution on offense killed any chances for Morrisville, which fell to visiting Pennington School, 26-0, in a nonleague football game.

Trailing by just 12 points at halftime, the Bulldogs were never able to get going on the offensive side of the ball and gave away too many free yards in penalties.

In one drive during the third quarter, the Bulldogs drew three flags for a total of 45 yards. Throughout 48 minutes, the refs called 10 penalties on the host team for a total of 80 yards.

“We had some key penalties, we weren’t tackling and we weren’t executing on offense,” Morrisville coach Bill Quill said.

“It was a bad day for us, and we had a rough week, but I don’t know what happened.”

With a little more than a minute remaining in the opening stanza, the Bulldogs fumbled, and Pennington’s Ben Kramer recovered.

That turnover led to the game’s first points eight plays later, when the Red Raiders’ quarterback, Zach McIntyre, hooked up with Jahmir White for a 19-yard scoring strike at the 10:21 mark of the second quarter.

After a Morrisville punt on its next possession, the Raiders marched down the field. This time, McIntyre found Kaison Randolph for 15-yard score to make it 12-0.

“I thought Morrisville played tough the first half,” Pennington coach Jerry Eure said. “They were scrappy, they were blitzing, and they were aggressive.

“They played us tough, and we made some adjustments at halftime. In the second half, we kind of wore them down, and that might be because of their numbers, but they played tough, and I hope they continue to build that program.”

Pennington received the ball to open the second half and was eventually stopped by the Bulldogs’ defense on a turnover on downs. But again, a costly fumble gave the Raiders the ball right back.

This time, it was Marcus Fulmore scampering 42 yards for the game’s third touchdown, and a two-point conversion made it 20-0 with 5:25 left in the third.

Fulmore added another score less than five minutes later to put the game out of reach, and he finished the contest with 217 yards on the ground.

The Bulldogs accumulated 101 yards rushing, with Zjamir Ibezim accounting for 54.

“I told them (after the game) that they have to have pride in the Bulldog name and work harder in practice,” Quill said after a lengthy post-game meeting with his team.

“I love these kids, and we want to do anything we can to help turn this program around a little bit. We’re close, but we have to get over that hump. We have to keep our heads up, but it’ll come.”

Here's a rant on Fitz-flop

Dear MoveOn member,

"What I think a town hall meeting is, is when you put out the word to a community a week ahead of time, you secure a location and you tell people it's either a general town hall meeting on any issue or a specific town hall meeting on an issue like health care, and you let everybody speak."

Ironically, those were the words of our congressman, Mike Fitzpatrick, back in 2010 when he was calling on his opponent to hold town hall meetings.

But over the last eight months, while voters have expressed outrage over Rep. Fitzpatrick's votes for the Ryan budget, the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and earmarks for their wealthy donors, he has held no public town halls. That's right, zero.

That's why we are calling on Rep. Fitzpatrick to hold a large, publicized in advance town hall in the coming weeks before the election.

Congressman Fitzpatrick's absence is not going unnoticed. Last week, the Bucks County Courier Times ran a front page article on the fact that Congressman Fitzpatrick no longer holds public town halls. In the article, Rep. Fitzpatrick's chief of staff claims that groups like PA Working Families are scaring him away from having town hall meetings.

As a member of Congress, Mike Fitzpatrick controls military funding, foreign policy, and the budget of the wealthiest nation in the world. He should not be running scared from us. We are Medicare recipients afraid of losing our benefits. We are retirees counting on Social Security to be there when we need it. And we are cancer survivors whose lives depend on health care reform.

We want Congressman Fitzpatrick to know that we are his constituents and we won't bite. We just want him to answer some questions on his votes on Medicare and other issues that affect our lives. We want real communication from him, not more campaign ads paid for by corporate donors and lobbyists.

Please join us in calling on Rep. Fitzpatrick to live up to his duties as a public servant and meet with all of his constituents, not just the ones who agree with him. As long as Congressman Fitzpatrick collects a $174,000 salary provided by our tax dollars, he should be willing to meet with us.

Thanks for helping us hold our elected officials accountable.

His town halls were propaganda dog and pony shows anyway. Just like his 'polls' were phony push polls. When FitzFlop was a candidate, he and his Tea Bag supporters had no trouble crashing and attempting to disrupt Patrick Murphy's constituent meetings. Yelling Town Hall Town Hall Town Hall. Now he's stopped having town halls claiming mean unruly people attend. Hypocrite. He's not going to change his political position if he holds a town hall dog & pony show. His lame talking point answers could be embarrassing to him, but that's about it.

If you don't like his policies get out and vote against him. Tell all your friends and neighbors too.

As an old MV grad I have to tell you that the band and the football team were much larger in '62. Color Guard, Twirlers (Majorettes) and about 75 playing members that attended all games, home and away. They played popular songs of the time and "fight songs" like On Wisconsin, Notre Dame Fight Song, Princeton Cannon Song ("On,On for Morrisville High School, On for the Blue and Gold...").
The football team played with heart and were coached by teachers who saw them every day and made sure they kept their grades up so that they stayed eligible to play.
Morrisville High School was the center of the town's life then. And by the way, the french fries were not very special.

I am glad you have good memories and it was nice to see the turnout from '62.

"They played popular songs of the time and "fight songs" like On Wisconsin, Notre Dame Fight Song, Princeton Cannon Song ("On,On for Morrisville High School, On for the Blue and Gold...")."

These still do play the popular songs of our time. They may not be familiar to you, but I think most of today's kids and parents know these tunes.

"The football team played with heart and were coached by teachers who saw them every day and made sure they kept their grades up so that they stayed eligible to play."

I would contend that they still play with heart and that the teachers are staying on top of all kids to do their best.

"Morrisville High School was the center of the town's life then."

Like any successful town, strong schools are a must. We've struggled, that's for sure. This town could use a shot in the arm and investing in our schools is a fine place to start.

And by the way, the french fries were not very special.

Relax, they're just fries.

Just wondering if anyone saw Coach Quill's Facebook Page in regards to academics standards? Reading that I highly doubt the right man is coaching these young men. In life rules are set and you must live by them and if you don't there are consequences. And why is a coach posting School business on facebook? MAYBE HE SHOULD BE PREPAING HIS TEAM FOR ITS NEXT GAME. One person put him in his place and now its time for the school to do the same. Coach there are rules of confidentiality that you must follow, Lead by example, stop being a cry baby.

Anonymous said...

What did he say? I don't have Facebook.

Anonymous said...

He is saying that a student should be allowed to play with a failing grade. The PIAA says you can, but Morrisville has a higher academic standard. I am sure he knew this when he took the job. Its alot easier when you are on the outside looking in, but when you are the Head Coach its up to you to establish your program. And he is not doing the right thing by airing his beliefs and feelings on FACEBOOK.

Stout's SOC pal and Morrisville Mayor aspirant Graeme Thompson did that at Reiter. I recall being at a board meeting where it was reaching legal matter proportions to get him to move his personal piece of junk off the public school property. He may have damaged the parking lot fence with his park job - maybe he did, maybe he didn't - no one should even have the chance.

I don't recall Stout saying a word about it.

Protesters urge elimination of Pa. property taxes

Associated Press | 2 comments

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Protesters are urging state lawmakers to eliminate the property taxes that fund public schools, as the Legislature heads into the home stretch of its two-year session.

The focus of attention Tuesday was a bill that would replace property taxes with higher income and sales taxes. The state income tax, now 3.07 percent, would rise by about 1 percentage point.

The sales tax would go from 6 percent to 7 percent, and exceptions would be eliminated.

Prior efforts to replace property taxes with higher sales taxes have run into stiff opposition in the General Assembly.

Jon said...

It was just that - crap. False. A lie. Meant to try to smear Wanda Kartal, one of the 4 new School Board Members who defeated Team Mihellmannhokadostirauff in the November 2011 election.

I can't say it's surprising. Marlys wouldn't know the truth if it came and bit her in the ...

Anonymous said...

I can see why Marlys doesn't like Wanda, and wants to try to tear her down. Wanda is capable, energetic, prepared, involved, and an advocate for both children and taxpayers. She tells the truth. She respectfully challenges the status quo. She's everything Marlys isn't and then some.

Anonymous said...

Another fight after school today. I think that makes two this week with police prescence required both days. Unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

Same kids or different kids fighting this time?

Anonymous said...

Football players. Both times. From what my daughter told me.

Anonymous said...

I want to thank Wanda Kartal for helping get 7th and 8th grade specials restored. This is what a school board member should be doing. The loss of specials wasn't mentioned during the budget process. It seemed like admin was hoping no one would notice. They were wrong. Thanks Wanda! The other poster is right. You're everything good Marlys never was and never will be! The positive change in the board since Marlys and her cronies get swept out is palpable.

Anonymous said...

Problem is that Marlys and company allowed admin to cut too many teaching positions. Resulting in the loss of programs and huge class sizes. That can't be fixed without hiring more teachers back.

Anonymous said...

Problem is - and remains - Marlys and company. It's decreasing as she and her diminishing "friends" continue to embarrass themselves. The cleanup from the consequences of their 4 year regime continues.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the board members that are concerned about loss of program and class size increase should spend a few days inside the schools to see what is happening. Stoneburner had a valid point when questioning the enrollment numbers at the beginning of the video and was blown off.

Anonymous said...

Lemme get this straight. Marlys, who blew off about 75% of the IU meetings when she was IU rep, tells lies about Wanda Kartal in an effort to question her effectiveness as our Tech School rep? Yeah, I got it straight. Marlys sucks.

Anonymous said...

What was Stoneburner's point, when is it in the video? I would like to listen.

Peter said...

I am in agreement with just about everything said here.

Keep the high academic standards. If you don't make the grades, you can't play ball. That's the way it should be and how it should remain.

Yes, there were two fights but it seems that administration must've gotten wind of them and had the police on site to stop them before they started. Nice work.

As for larger class sizes and cuts in programs, I don't just blame Marlys, it was the fault of the majority and, like 10 years ago, it will take some time to rebuild.

Anonymous said...

,,,,,and if you're fighting you're cruising for permanent benching.

Anonymous said...

Both fights were with members of the football team. I guess it all started week 1 when they fought each other at George School. They can't win on the field but they sure like to fight each other. Does Coach Quill have any control of his players? My answer is NO. Quill his staff and players are an embarrasment to the Morrisville Community. Al Radosti should be brought in to coach the team since Quill was his hand picked choice. THANKS AL !!!

Anonymous said...

The fight issue should be a non issue. The players should be suspended for multiple games or kicked off the team entirely. The coach needs to step up and discipline his team. It's not about wins and losses, it's about teaching these kids to become men. You reap what you sow, this coach and staff was the wrong choice from the beginning and continues to be a problem. None of this would be tolerated if the coach was a teacher that conducted themselves in a professional manner. Too bad we don't have any teachers that coach anymore in this district.

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure why it necessarily has to be a teacher, but it has to be somebody with the qualities you describe, and it doesn't appear the current guy(s) has them. If indeed Al Radosti hand picked him, I am not surprised in the least that they are lacking in these areas.

Anonymous said...

A Morrisville Teacher with College playing experience and Asst Coach at Morrisville was interviewed and the choice. But from what I heard Al Radosti said NO and he by himself made the choice of Quill. The teacher that was not offered the job is respected by the students. I guess Morrisville's loss is Upper Morelands gain because he is now coaching at Upper Moreland but still teaching at Morrisville. Something is wrong with that picture.

Anonymous said...

Another wrong picture is the N-Bombs Al Radosti dropped in describing some of the other coach candidates when Al's hand picked choice was made.

Anonymous said...

The reason is should be a teacher is the same reason college programs require their coaches teach courses at the school. You need people that are involved in the day to day operations of the school and it's students. Somebody that is invested in the total development of the individual, not just reliving their glory days at the local watering hole talking about the wake back whens.

Anonymous said...

You got it 100% Can't have one coaching our glorious football team even if he was the BEST choice.

Morrisville has no racial tension. Ron Stout said so in the paper so you know it's true.

Morrisville cannot afford costly school system

Regarding the Courier Times stories about Morrisville school board member Al Radosti and allegations from NAACP President John Jordan that Radosti used a racial slur, apparently, more than two years ago:

The sources for these stories are the disgruntled losers of the last school board election and the political rivals of Al Radosti.

It was more than two years ago when lame duck school director John Jordan defied the town's majority by voting to build a new $30 million school that most did not want or could not afford.

So where was Jordan when over $2 million was squandered on architects, bankers and lawyers on the ill fated school plan? Where was his concern when three out of every four graduates of the Morrisville School District failed at math and reading on their state assessment tests and costs soared to over $22,000 per student?

Morrisville is a beautiful and culturally diverse town that's been free of racial tension but we simply cannot afford the current school system. We don't need Jordan and his allegations stirring the pot.

Seems like Morrisville is doing a wonderful job existing in it's current millenium. No wonder shit sucks, the people who run the show can't figure out common human decency, let alone the best educational practices.

Pennsbury board takes step toward renovating Pennwood MS

Posted: Sunday, September 30, 2012 5:00 am | Updated: 7:28 am, Sun Sep 30, 2012.

By Joan Hellyer Staff Writer | 0 comments

The Pennsbury school board met briefly Saturday morning to add an energy portfolio to state-required documents for the planned renovation of Pennwood Middle School.

The portfolio was not included in PlanCon Part A: Project Justification and PlanCon Part B: Schematic Design that the board had voted during its Sept. 13 meeting to submit to the state.

Pennsbury officials found out Wednesday that the energy information was needed by Oct. 1, said Daniel Rodgers, the district’s business administrator.

The special session Saturday, which was about 10 minutes, was called to make sure the board approved sending the portfolio with the two documents.

The board voted 7-0 to revise the submissions to include the additional documentation.

Vice President Simon Campbell and board member Steve Kosmorsky did not attend the meeting. Board member Kathleen Zawacki participated in the special session by remote via telephone hook-up.

The state submissions are just the beginning of an extensive process toward renovating the school off Makefield Road in Lower Makefield that is more than 60 years old, officials said.

First responder responds bravely

On the eve of Labor Day, I was on my way home after visiting with my mother. I had stopped at a gas station to fill up when all of a sudden a man ran through, with a policeman in pursuit yelling "Stop, police." Behind that rounding the corner was a Middletown van following. The man ran toward First Federal and Uncle Bill's, then he doubled back and ran behind the stores at Langhorne Square. The van went to the front.

As I left the gas station and came around the front of the stores, I saw a man in a lime green sweatshirt sitting on the suspect in front of Chuck E. Cheese and the police officer on the radio behind them. At this point three Middletown police cars turned into Langhorne Square.

The next day I told some friends. We all were perplexed as to the citizen in the lime green sweatshirt.

Then, the Courier Times had a story about state Rep. Frank Farry, who also is a fire chief. I realized he was the man in the lime green sweatshirt and also was driving the van following and backing up the police officer. The suspect had possibly stolen a car in Bensalem.

The Penndel officer had no backup until Frank Farry stepped up. He and many first responders have the correct fortitude and resolve to handle emergencies.

As Frank Farry stated in the news article, he has no desire to be a police officer but he was glad he could assist.

We should commend this legislative pit bull for taking a bite out of crime.

Local state lawmaker helps Penndel cop apprehend alleged car thief

Posted: Wednesday, September 5, 2012 12:00 pm | Updated: 12:11 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

By Jo Ciavaglia Staff writer | 5 comments

The big Labor Day errands that state Rep. Frank Farry planned for Monday were to gas up his Langhorne-Middletown fire chief’s truck and visit his mom.

Helping Penndel police apprehend a suspected car thief definitely wasn’t on the list for the Middletown lawmaker.

But then Farry saw a Penndel patrol car — lights and sirens on — in a slow-speed pursuit of a dark SUV around 8 p.m. on Business Route 1.

The SUV driver ducked into the Great American Diner’s parking lot near Route 413; Farry heard on the police scanner he monitors that a car theft suspect was making a getaway.

So, he postponed his visit to mom for a brief, real-life game of cops and robbers.

The incident started in Penndel, when a police officer spotted the SUV on Lincoln Highway between Bellevue Avenue and Durham Road, Penndel police Chief Joe Sciscio said.

The SUV was driving erratically, the chief said. The officer suspected the driver might be drunk. He attempted to pull him over, but the driver kept going on Lincoln Highway into Middletown, which is where Farry saw the pursuit.

He had just fueled up his fire chief truck at the nearby Middletown public works building when he realized what was happening — and then realized only one police officer was chasing the driver.

Maybe the officer could use his help, Farry thought.

The suspect — later identified by police as Jonathan Johnson, 26, of Trevose — quickly ditched the SUV and started running through a nearby gas station near the residential Highland Park section of Levittown, Farry and police said.

Farry drove ahead of him and tried to block Johnson, who then ran into the Langhorne Square Shopping Center with the Penndel police car behind him. As the suspect started running toward Business Route 1, Farry said he drove ahead of him and blocked him near the sidewalk by the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.

The Penndel officer caught up and used a stun gun to subdue Johnson.

At that point, Farry said he got out of his truck. He still didn’t see police backup, so he asked the officer if he could help. The officer directed Farry to kneel on the suspect as the officer handcuffed him. Afterward, the officer called in the apprehension to the Bucks County radio room.

After the suspect was in police custody, the Penndel officer learned the SUV he was driving had been reported stolen from Bensalem, Sciscio said.

Johnson was arrested and arraigned before Bristol Township District Judge Robert Wagner Jr. early Tuesday on charges that included felony theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding police and flight to avoid apprehension, as well as misdemeanor DUI and other related charges. He was sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of $50,000/10 percent bail.

On Tuesday, Farry denied any secret desire to be a police officer — or a superhero.

Rather, he said he was worried the officer was alone pursuing a suspect and he didn’t want a suspected criminal running through a residential section or starting a police pursuit that could jeopardize public safety.

“My fire badge is badge enough,” he said. “I’m perfectly fine as state lawmaker and fire chief.”

"And some people use the "It's for the children" line like some sort of ultimate hammer, thinking that this trumps everything else."

Another everythhing trumping hammer I hear more often than that: so seniors can keep their houses

Here's an idea. Make reasonable balanced decisions based on the facts as best you can determine them without getting too wrapped up in emotional dramas. Challenge and keep everyone honest, especially the ones spending the money and administering the schools.

I thought schools were for the children so why would it not be "it's for the children"
people like Marlis who don't have any skin in the game at all seem to have the most to say.
but of late it's hard to understand her point anymore. all she seem to be concerned about is finding something to say about Ms. Kartal. Marlis get a life you lost you lost bad, time to go away

According to Marlys Emperor Hellmann CPA it's renters who have no skin in the game. I think we all have skin the game but when you heaps lies upon lies upon lies as Marlys has you destroy your credibility and your reputation becomes lower than dirt, as hers rightfully has, all by her own doing.
