Did anyone attend the protests in Williamson Park? I did and I was ashamed of both sides. No one is willing to try and find real solutions. Both sides just want complete surrender from the other side.

On fields where the baseball games should have been played we had mounted police and alleged adults acting like children but with real guns.

Take the costs of yesterday's police response to the protest, split it in half and send a bill to each group. Your actions have real life consequences.

Anonymous said...

Glad I missed it.

That's a fair point the first poster has. Can Morrisville legally bill the groups for the extra costs? Like any good agent, the bill should also have a 20% markup as a profit for the boro.

Was the baseball concession stand open? This could be a way to turn all this ugliness to a profit for the boro.

Why didn't the Boro know it was going to rain?

Because that's not available until Marty and Doc come back to the future in 2015.

This BCCT article has a video link with some coverage of the rally. I wasn't there, but on the video it doesn't look like there was a heavy police presence. I heard there was though, but it must have been mostly non-Morrisville PD. Mounted police and state troopers. About 8 secs. in, there's about 3 secs. of video of a single Morrisville PD SUV. It appears empty, though the windshield wipers swipe once. I'd say the wipers on are an intermittent setting. That's all I got. Happy Mother's Day!

I attended and I think this is not entirely correct. On one side were peaceniks who want universal background checks, which isn't that crazy of an idea. On the other side were crazy gun fetishists who are apparently so threatened by the idea of background checks they felt the need to bring machine guns to a public park. THEY were the reason for all the police, not the peace people. This is a false equivalence-that the groups are somehow equal and equally to blame.
These gun people were absolutely obnoxious and so scared of not being able to get a machine RIGHT NOW that they felt the need to shout into little old ladies faces.
The only time they shut up was when a moment of silence was observed and during the pledge of allegiance. They made horrible remarks to a woman whose child was murdered and used a megaphone to drown out the speakers.
Also in attendance.....everybody's favorite puppeteer....Jane Burger.
Standing with a group that calls for arming teachers.

My side is right, your side is wrong. Blah, blah, blah. I agree with the first poster.

Anonymous said...

Assclowns! The lot of them. All this fuss, and not a damn thing was accomplished, except a bunch of kids couldn't play their games, and the "newspeople" had something at which to point their cameras and get their soundbites.

Anonymous said...

Weather aside, it turns out the kids could have played their games. The 2 groups were too engrossed with each other to bother with anyone else.

Here's what I observed....

Angry Pennsylvanians clinging to guns and shouting at senior citizens.

Scared Pennsylvanians wearing guns, some multiple, waving crudely lettered signs, screaming for teachers to be armed.

Jane Burger holding a sign that said something about protecting childern, while standing with the arm the teachers shouters.

Pathetic

Yeah..if by "complete surrender" you mean universal background checks you are correct. Is that SO much to ask? That's all the peaceniks wanted. What is the harm in that?
But the "other side" that you somehow think has a leg to stand on...wants ANYONE to be able to buy ANY GUN, ANYTIME, as many times as they want.
And if you really attended, tell me what the peacers were shouting at the gun fetishists....You can't, because they were pretty well behaved. THEY weren't getting up in people's faces-they pretty much just stood there taking abuse from armed rednecks.
You're saying that the peace people ...whose most potent weapon on display were some humorous signs...are the same as the people who brought automatic weapons and shotguns to Williamson Park. Not the same. Not equivalent. At all.
This false equivalence bullshit neeeds to stop. One side is right .One side is wrong.

In the paper again.

MORRISVILLE -- Borough police reported two robberies — one involving men with shotguns — and an attempted robbery since Wednesday.

Police released few details about the alleged crimes on Monday and provided no description of suspects involved.

The first incident reportedly occurred Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. when two men wearing hoodies and carrying shotguns knocked on a door at a home and when the resident answered they demanded money, according to a news release.

The men entered the home and went through drawers looking for jewelry and money, police said. They allegedly stole a $200 cell phone.

Police did not release the street where the home invasion occurred.

A woman walking on West Bridge Street near a doughnut shop Friday at 9:30 a.m. was punched several times in the face in an attempt to steal her purse, police said. The suspect was last seen running through the Mill Pond Shopping Center.

Another robbery occurred Monday around 11:15 a.m. when police say a man, who was panhandling in a parking lot on East Bridge Street, pulled out a knife and demanded a man hand over all his money. The man offered the suspect $1. The man, who was unharmed, had an undetermined amount of money taken

With the nicer weather, people are opening windows to let in some fresh air. Police are cautioning people to keep them locked. My neighbor was just robbed of cash and jewelry. The thieves entered through an unlocked second floor window.

We have added a new candidate to Sunday's driveway meet n greet. Dave Rivella, candidate for Mayor. Multiple candidates, one place, one hour, Sunday May 19, 4-5 pm. have questions, put Yeh face to the sign, stop by 109 Grandview ave.

Anonymous said...

What are the police and the mayor and council doing about that crime list?

Anonymous said...

Hey Morrisville's finest catch all of the loiterers and petty drug users, and even sometimes manage to pick up a shoplifter or two from the dollar store or Giant. Do you really think it's reasonable they would actually take any steps to stop real crime? Even the recent heroin bust at the smoke shop was makefield cops. It seems to me they must just hang around the 7-11 at bridge street and pick off scruffy looking people for petty offenses. Perhaps that is the limit of their capabilities. Maybe we should ask Makefield to take over and disband the lot of them.

Anonymous said...

That kind of consolidation makes a lot of sense. Would LMT be up for it? Somehow I don't think so.

Donna said...

I have asked around and no one is giving any information on where this the robbery involving shotguns took place. I think that as residents of Morrisville, we have the right to know where this happened. We should be made aware so that we can keep our eyes and ears open. Usually anything that happens in our small borough comes out if you just pay attention. I was told that since the Mayor oversees the police, that might be where we should go for information. So people of Morrisville, pick up your phones and start dialing to the information that you are intitled to.

Anyone surprised that the Boro will now be sued by the gun lobby?

The cheapest and easiest way out of the suit is to repeal the ordinance. It is obviously not legal, as the State Police made clear, but hey, keep defending the supposed leadership of the town. How are they to know the law?

Too much in one sentence

Posted: Friday, May 17, 2013 12:15 am

Little League and gun rally should never be in the same sentence.

Shame on you, Kathy Leary of the Peace Coalition, for "not realizing" there would be baseball games taking place on a Saturday in the middle of baseball season on Morrisville's baseball fields.

Really?

There are a lot more things these kids should be thinking of, like "Am I going to hit one out today?" or "I hope we finally win one." Not, "Why aren't they letting us play?"

And I am not a "think of the children" spouter usually, but in this case, both sides put their need to express their myopic and unbending, unending arguments over anyone else's.

To the poster directly above. We get it, you're campaigning. Your writing style is exactly what most of in town are tired of. Your negativity tells everyone what your agenda is, we get it. You aren't a regular on here, which is fine, it's open to everyone. But your negativity tells everyone what your agenda is and it's pretty much the direction not too many people in town want to go back to.

We get it, but I kind of think you may be wasting your time with this crowd. Over the years, they have been through many campaigns & heard just about every everything our town obstructionists can fabricate. Over the years, whisper down the lane to the naive handful of residents who haven't heard the game before has proven to be more successful than turning people off with negativity on this blog.

Corbett gets cool reception at Pa. graduation

Posted: Saturday, May 18, 2013 4:07 pm | Updated: 6:02 pm, Sat May 18, 2013.

Associated Press |

Gov. Tom Corbett got a cool reception when he addressed a central Pennsylvania university's graduating class.

The (Harrisburg) Patriot-News ( http://bit.ly/19M1nV0) says the that when the governor stepped to the microphone Saturday at the Millersville University ceremony, about a dozen students turned their chairs away from the stage.

About half of the faculty members wore yellow pins saying "I support public education," and a few also turned their chairs away.

A black armband protest that had been discussed on campus failed to materialize.

Some students and faculty members had objected to Corbett's appearance, citing proposed cuts in funding for state universities.

Patty Garner, of Hanover, who graduated with a history degree, said she had hoped to pay for her education with federal loans but was forced to take out private loans.

"It's important not just to me, but to my parents, who both work full time and provide a lot of support for me," Garner said.

Colleen Abrams, a social work major from New Jersey, said she was disappointed that Corbett had been invited.

"I just feel like he didn't support state funding for education," said.

Others, however, said anyone bothered by the governor just shouldn't listen _ and really, most people wouldn't anyway.

"It's not a big deal," said Michael Carpenter, a business administration major from West Chester. "You're not going to remember in 10 years who you're commencement speaker is. It's not Oprah. It's not Seth MacFarlane."

Corbett told the audience that their real education was just beginning.

"Success is less about genius than it is about effort," he said. "This university taught you, but, more importantly, it made you a particular kind of person: curious, ambitious, impatient and ready to play a role in the larger world."

The closest he came to alluding to the funding issue came in a story about how Thomas Edison lost millions of his own money creating a process for extracting iron ore.

"Now mind you, it was his own money he was spending, not somebody else's," Corbett said. "It's easy to spend somebody else's money, which is a habit we have been trying to change in Harrisburg."
