Primary Election Day - Tuesday May 21

Don't forget the election

Posted: Sunday, May 19, 2013 12:15 am
For anyone not paying attention, there is an election on Tuesday. The fact it’s a primary election is one strike against a large voter turnout. The second strike might be it’s a so-called “off-year” primary election; the absence of any high-profile race will surely keep the polls less than busy. The third strike, the one most likely to guarantee a poor showing at polling places, is voter apathy. Not only voter apathy, but apathy among many of the candidates themselves, as shown by their failure to respond to our request for information to be included in our Voters Guide.
If a candidate isn’t enthusiastic about running, why should he or she expect any votes?
All of that negativity aside, Tuesday’s voting has plenty of local implications in communities and school districts, where what’s decided on town councils, boards of supervisors and school boards can have immediate, direct and profound effects. When legislation is passed in Washington or Harrisburg, the implications may or may not be felt right away, if at all. But when the local school board decides to raise taxes, the impact, unmistakable, hits with the next tax bill.
Local government, unlike its federal and state counterparts, is not remote. Elected supervisors and school directors are accessible, and accountable. But they’re only accountable if voters make the effort to become involved, and then affirm or reject what their officials are doing on Election Day.
We make this appeal to voters twice a year, for the spring primary and the fall general election. We must admit our rate of success in convincing those registered with the major parties to go to the polls in the springtime has not been very good. And it’s unrealistic for us to think Tuesday’s turnout will reverse the trend. Except for a “noisy” race here and there, this has been a quiet run-up to May 21. A betting man would not wager a great many voters will cast their ballots in two days.
Nevertheless, we once again encourage all eligible voters to at least check out our Voters Guide that was included with Thursday’s newspaper. It’s also available online at couriertimesnow.com and intelligencernow.com. If you find a local race that’s likely to affect your life, give some serious thought to weighing in on Tuesday.
It’s very easy not to vote. It may be less easy to live with the consequences of not voting.

I have known for quite some time that Vic Cicero has been working with Jane Burger & friends.

Today, I drove down Grandview Avenue to see two signs for Cicero in the front yard of Steve Worob. Knowing quite a bit of people in the 4th ward, I decided to drive around to see where else I would see Vic's signs. No surprise that they are on all the ususal yards of people who support Jane and her cronies.

Kind of funny in a sad way that the last time Steve Worob ran to keep his council seat it was Vic Cicero who beat him and now they are working together.

I am very surprised that the Dem Club endorsed Cicero considering he has been openly working with the Jane Burger republicans for about two years.

It's not by chance that both candidates who were running against Cicero dropped out of the
4th ward council race. One candidate has both Jane and Vic as his bosses, so that is no surprise. It's my guess that the other was told he and his republican friends will appoint her to Rivella's council seat when he wins the mayor race. Her dropping out would also ensure that Vic gets the republican write in vote.

I really have to thank Mary Singleton for knowing that it's difficult for a write in candidate to win over someone on the ballot and stepping up to try anyway. I have no doubt she is already working hard for all of us to ensure that progress on council continues.

When Steve Worob puts your sign in his yard it's pretty much game over for me.

Cicero is slick. He pretended to run with a unified team last election, but he was wrangling deals with the supposed "other faction" (i.e. Jane Burger and friends) in the background. Now he is just out in the open about it. That is just wrong! And the Democrats endorsed him? Why?

Unfortunately the Morrisville Dem club isn’t what it used to be since the Rivellas have moved on. The new leadership doesn’t appear to even understand politics. There are more DINOs(democrats in name only) and simpletons than staunch democrats. There also appears to be a bunch of hypocrites in the mix. If they don’t care for you such as Eileen or Rita you are on the outs but if they like you feel free to: hire the biggest republican firms in Bucks County, work for the republican machine, don’t worry about ever working for the residents who put you there in the first place, go ahead and cut back room deals and guess what they will endorse you.

Getting good candidates and not ripping them if they don't vote your way every time. Thats the key. Else you end up isolated by alienating everyone.

Getting good candidates who don't make backroom deals, intimidate people, try to get their lifelong friends appointed, & who DON'T WORK FOR JANE BURGER seems to be the key.

move on from this anger towards anyone and everyone who does not vote your way very childish and ridiculous and its boring us

My family and I want to wish everyone much luck today. Hope everyone has the benefit of a calm day at the polls. Some nice weather would be a blessing as well.

Lighten up Francis!

I know, I got your sarcasm, but I wanted to play too!!!

And yes, we certainly could do with less of that.

Pat Schell is tacky. She was the only person at the polls playing dirty politics. I had my mind made up when I went to grandview today I was voting for Victor Cicero, but with that loud mouth on his side NO WAY. She has no tact bringing up peoples personal tragedies, calling people liars and users and all. I don't know the write in Mary Singleton very well but I did write her in. She seems authentic and I look forward to getting to know her. I really hope she gets on the ballot if not I hope she tries again in November. Cicero I have always supported you every step of the way but not with that loud mouth behind you all the way. She is going to ruin things for you. Way to go Mary and supports for now lowering yourself to her level. She did tell me she likes you, with friends like Pat Schell and company who needs enemies.
