Morrisville Residents May Face Tax Increase in 2014

Morrisville residents may face tax increase in 2014

Morrisville residents may have to set aside additional money to cover their borough taxes in 2014.The council is proposing an increase of 3.63 mills, or $72.60, to help balance the $5.9 million budget. This year, Morrisville is running with a slightly lower budget of $5.6 million.
If the preliminary budget passes on Monday, the owners of an average home assessed at $20,000 will pay $891.20 to the borough.
Next year’s budget includes about 10 full-time and four part-time police officers, and a police chief, which the borough needs to hire.
Borough Manager Tom Bates provided the council with three budgets, each with different options for the police department. His plans are the result of requests from residents that more cops be put on the streets.
The first option would have kept four full-time officers who would have been promoted to corporal and thus become supervisors. Then, the rest of the force would have been filled with about 12 part-time officers. This option included a police chief and would have put one full-timer and two part-timers per shift on the streets.
This option also would have cut benefits such as longevity and holiday pay, health care, saving more than $500,000, Bates said, adding it would have balanced the budget but reduced the police budget to about $1.3 million.
The second option was similar to this year’s budget that includes 10 full-timers and a chief totaling $1.8 million. This option puts two full-time officers on patrol.
The third proposal was to have three full-timers on patrol around the clock and would raise taxes by 18 mills, or $360, putting the police budget at about $2.3 million.

Thanks Pepitone! This is his fault, right? Or is this Hellman's fault? Oh, that's right, everything is Jane Burgermeister-Meisterburger's fault. Everyone else is just another of her puppets, or was that Burgerbots? I can't keep my line up card in order. Someone tell me at whom I should direct my outrage!!!!

Fault? Direct your outrage? Over what? A tax increase?

Been to the grocery store lately? There should be a tax increase every year, just as the cost of living increases each year.

And before anyone says it, no my paycheck doesn't increase each year to combat the increases in my living expenses.

First poster, nice deflection. Why are you outraged?

Y'all need to get your sarcasm meters checked. I think it's overtly obvious that poster above was trying to be funny. WTH do you folks do for fun? From the looks of it, not much. Poster 1', I award you one internets for your successful, and I thought funny, troll. Back to your regularly scheduled sticks in the mud here. Oh and with all the outrage, and yes I really mean that! Over the police debacles, did anyone not expect this? How else do you pay for for more personnel salaries and benefits?

"Inside job?"

Yes, I believe it was an inside job.

Because the borough building wasn't broken into means nothing. Some of the people who have keys include the police officers, police personnel, the borough office workers, administration, council people, mayor, some borough committee people, director of the MMA, varies borough workers. Any of these people could have done this.

It's reasonable to assume that most of the people I named as having keys to borough hall would have no idea that a copy of the cornerstone report was kept at borough hall, let alone where it would be kept at borough hall.

So then the question becomes who that a copy of the cornerstone report was in the filing cabinets, in the borough manager's office at borough hall?

The JC project included cameras at borough hall.

We need the CSI-Morrisville team stat!!

Anyone else notice that all the stories posted that address real educational issues never get any comments? I noticed SB meetings are the same. No one stays to see what educational progress is being made, but put cutting football on the agenda, or plans for a tax increase, and the unruly mob arrives. torches and pitchforks in hand.

Speaking for myself only, I generally save the lengthy articles of any kind relating to morrisville for reading on the weekends.

Council knew where they were kept...

And I don't understand why Eileen keeps saying she hadn't seen the documents - they've been there for any council member to read, at any time.
But then, facts get in the way of her creating her "for the people persona", which couldn't be further from the truth...

I'm going to disagree with you on this one. Council did not know where they were kept until after the cabinets were broken into. I have correct myself, one council person knew exactly where they were because during the same week the break in happened, this council person was there, in the manager's office, to view the documentation and watched as it was removed from its location. Eileen did talk about this somewhat on facebook. In her effort to promote herself with her new found fan club Eileen gave away this bit of information about about her fellow obstructionist on council.

I happen to know that it was actually this council person and the mayor who were there and watched as it was removed.

I'm going to let the various politically-motivated armchair speculators figure it all out for me.
They're doing a great job so far.

Eileen has a fan club? I'm guessing anyone supporting her on line is a relative or one of her alts.

I would think it's possible that if the cornerstone investigation was of the police department, that it was someone within the police department who broke into the report's location.

You've got to be kidding me. Hopefully the county detectives are continuing with this investigation and an arrest will be made in the near future for false reports. To accuse a police office of doing such a thing is outrageous! Nice deflection though, bring on that biased, waste if taxpayers money!! Can't wait to see the results.

Amazing that everybody already knows the culprit, and it varies by who hates who. It's like we're a town full of Columbo-zos!

It seems no more outrageous thank suggesting there is false reporting.

Sure. However it was Bates himself who called the paper and asked for this to be published. This was confirmed by the BCCT if you'd like to give them a call. Why would he want more bad press for Morrisville? Maybe because he himself said at the September meeting that he doesn't care about Morrisville! He doesn't have to live here. Well, actually he is supposed to according to the borough code. But why would be have to follow any rules?

I don't have any knowledge that Bates called the newspaper. It's reasonable to consider that he may have. It would be a way of letting the community know this happened. In the past borough officials have been accused of keeping information (that they didn't actually have) from the community by not contacting the press. People want it both ways, as usual. Had the press not been contacted, it can be said it was being hidden. The press is contacted, it can be said that Bates had an agenda in contacting them. It's also reasonable to conclude that Bates may have wanted the public to know what the borough has been up against and to what length people will go.

I agree that this could have been done by someone within the police department. It's really the only thing that makes any sense when considering the potential moves behind this crime. It's a copy of something and not an original so whomever took it did so out of nosiness, not to hide any potential evidence.

I heard the cabinets and locks sued for being prevented from doing their jobs.

Jon, I think this thing may have jumped the shark.

Good idea to raise money for our town....reality TV,.... Our story would always rake in the ratings. I think Mo'ville has missed it's calling! But, then again, who would be the hero/villain...? Let the public decide!

I also find it troubling that the articles posted about Education are ignored....proof... most aren't getting it!
