Show Your Support for a Better Morrisville

Show your support for a better Morrisville

For the last year and a half, Morrisville Borough Council has been working to provide needed upgrades in town. This would be done with no increase in our tax bill. The next step in this process is to pass an ordinance to borrow the funds for the project. I urge council to support this with eight "yes" votes. The borough will borrow $1.25 million to be paid back over 17 years. The savings from the improvements will more than pay for the loan. This is how the "no tax increase" is possible. Some of the upgrades are windows, heater, A/C, doors and lights for borough hall and other borough-owned buildings. Also, installing a gas line to borough hall, new video equipment (to broadcast borough meetings), all new street lights and new traffic signals. These improvements are needed just for the upkeep of the property, plus all are energy-efficient.
The borough has already entered into a contract. If for any reason the borough would default on this contract, it would cost our community wasted tax dollars.
I urge my fellow concerned residents of Morrisville to call your council representative to support this ordinance. The next meeting of council is Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.; come out to speak and let the council know what you want. If we sit back and do nothing, there is a possibility this ordinance will not pass.
Recently in a speech President Obama said, "You can't be just against something; you have to be for something." Please come out and show that you are for improving our community and are looking to the future for positive change.

I'm not Pat Schell 's biggest fan, but I like this.

I like this project. We need to make timely investments in our infrastructure. Sometimes you need to spend 1 dollar to save 2 through efficiency improvements. There can be negative consequences when we don't (see Reiter, M.R.).

Morrisville could change for the better overnight by setting up a border checkpoint at each bridge from Trenton.

Tell us again how Pat Schell lost the election for mayor.

She couldn't possibly have been worse than Ledger.

If Pat Shnell really cared about Morrisville she wouldn't be supporting work that was not bid competitively nor was it voted on by council.

I guess following the law is not a requirement.

Boy oh boy do I remember the Hellman school board not following laws and procedures on more than a few occasions. Boy oh boy I absolutely do NOT remember the Ledger lovers saying word effing one about it. My memory's not bad. It didn't happen. Nobody said a peep.

All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians

The wording here really gets me. I'm no fan of Pat Schell, but when words like, "if she really cared about Morrisville" are thrown out, it really bothers me. As if the poster is in charge of deciding the parameters by which a decision can be made as to whether someone does or does not care about the town. To dumb it down, you have no idea if Mrs. Schell cares about Morrisville or not. Suggesting you do sounds small.

I am not invalidating your ability to have an opinion. It is your opinion that things were not handled properly. That does not mean you have to bash this person who obviously would like to see this project move forward.

How about the poster's allegations of unlawfulness. Was the work bid competitively? Was it required to be?

Even I can answer these questions, although I have no doubt the poster already knows the answers as well. I have watched enough of the council meetings to have heard similar questions asked over and over again by obstructionists who obviously hear the answers but will no doubt ask again at some point. It really makes them sound not so bright to keep beating a dead horse.

Downey is the obstructionists solicitor and even he keeps telling them everything has been handled properly.

I had a feeling it was yet another one of those Big Lies by the Usual Suspects.

These seem like worthwhile investments, but is this part true?

"The borough has already entered into a contract. If for any reason the borough would default on this contract, it would cost our community wasted tax dollars."

If so, I am concerned. It would seem that there's some cart-before-the-horse going on. Shouldn't you secure the funding before signing a deal?

Of course, one could argue that the inverse is also true. If you borrow money first and then later decide to bag the whole project that too can get costly.

So, does anyone know the truth about this statement? What about the economics of the deal?

Good questions, hope someone can post a few true facts.

Morrisville was always a sweet town to visit.
Some of my older relatives were lucky enough to live there along the canal.
I honestly hope it isn't too late to rescue it.

Same here. My parents have lived in Morrisville since 1974. They enjoy their house and their neighbors, but I think if they were a bit younger they would entertain moving. It's a shame.

Funny, I know quite a few people who entertain moving or have moved b/c of pajmf1's dad (Bill Farrell) and the people he supports politically.

Is it true that the contract for the lighting has a "hold harmless" clause that prevents our borough from suing the manufacturer and/or installer should there be a defect in the product or workmanship?

Anonymous said...

I don't know. Do you?

Anonymous said...

If true, who hired the solicitor that would advise such a terrible contract as Ok? You do realize you all down in Boro Hall and your groupies suck so bad, right?
