Other stuff from Wednesday's school board meeting:

1. The modular classrooms (i.e. trailers) were rented for the next 12 months at $6,336/month (total of $76,032) - that was for all 8, right?;
2. Dir. of Pupil Services Tony Gesualdi got picked up for another year at $100,695.15;
3. Looks like 3 teachers took early retirement (Barbara Sundheim, Suzanne Casey, Ann Walker).
4. Dave May got hired as a substitute maintenance employee at his current hourly rate, effective 7/1/11 (today).

What else?

Anonymous said...

What happens to Mr May's current job when he starts the maintenence job today?
Was it eliminated?

Anonymous said...

Dunno. Dunno his current job description or hourly rate either. He dunno mine either.

Gee...I'm so surprised. Why do all the "rumors" seem to come true?

Has anyone read this little tidbit on the site: http://www.morrisvillepagov.com/?

Morrisville PA is a quaint little borough of approximately two square miles ... With one of the lowest crime rates in PA, you can feel safe in Morrisville.

The first part is good, we are a quaint little borough. The second part, the bit about crime rate and feeling safe, that's where I wonder just how this was concluded.

I know this has nothing to do with casting aspersions on my fellow citizens of the board and council, so it doesn't really belong here, but I found it interesting none the less.

Happy 4th to one and all.

Now back to the regular programming.

Crime rates were even lower when the Calhoun Street bridge was closed.

Just saying.

So that's all this is to you? You have no ability to see that there is legitimate criticism and concern expressed here? There's no room in your world for that? How "sad"! You're not a school board member, are you? Would you admit it if you were?

Let's close all the bridges. All the roads too.The 'real' Morrisvillians aren't going anywhere.

Here's a bunch of little tidbit I haven't read - the School Board Meeting minutes from February, March, April, and May on the District's website. Why? They're not on there, yet they've all been approved.

Apparently Marlys is hard at work on the minutes again.

Why are you 'casting aspersions' on council?

dictionary.com
"quaint"

–adjective, -er, -est.

1. having an old-fashioned attractiveness or charm; oddly picturesque: a quaint old house.

2. strange, peculiar, or unusual in an interesting, pleasing, or amusing way: a quaint sense of humor.

3. skillfully or cleverly made.

4. Obsolete . wise; skilled.

We have more than our share of bridge activity & 7-11 dealers etc., but we don't have as much residential crime or business crime (ya would have to have business for that to happen) to the extent that many other areas have. One reason is because we are built out, our properties are closer to each other than in many communities, our neighborhoods have more housing stock than in many other communities. This works as a crime deterrent. Our officers are always busy but we have less of them working than in our neighboring communities. Believe it or not, Morrisville Borough does have less crime than our neighbors, but we are smaller than our neighbors too.

I think the wording came from either the borough manager or from someone within the office at borough hall many years ago, it hasn't changed.

SOC (Stay on Crack/Course) had 82% support-- where did it go? Sharon Hughes said it would soon be 100%. What happened?

12/3/07
Sharon Hughes
Congratulations to the school board. They now represent 82% of the people of Morrisville. Quickly they will represent 100% of the people of Morrisville.

Herbert Brooks, Oak St.
Mr. Brooks congratulated the new board members and expressed gratitude for everything they have done so far and for the mammoth tasks they are about to undertake. I’m sure that they will ask opinions of the residents and include the residents in some of their decisions before they come to their own decision. “Carry a good light, may it always burn bright with the sun in your hearts.”

Steve Worob, 101 Grandview
Congratulations to the new board. I know that this board will remember that it represents the people who put their trust in them.

Ed Bailey, 36 E. Palmer
I knew two years ago about this night. We thought we had a fighting chance and we won. My advice to the incoming board is change everything about the way these meetings are run and stick together.

I got passed over on the ticket, notice how I don't come around as much any more! :(

I'm on the payroll, I got hired as a crossing guard! :)

I got appointed to the board! :)

I got appointed to some tech school committee :), then I quit after I got caught stealing opponent campaign fliers! :(

Which of our 'heroes' brought us Sandy Gibson?

Right, she's the reason the board is what it is. Let's find some more people to tar and feather and blame for all that's wrong. More people who actually tried to make something positive out of a bad situation. But NO, she was the EVIL!!!

I agree that it seems a bit disingenuous to claim the town is safe when evry time I look, I see more gang tags, every time I open the paper to the crime reports, I see more burglaries. Perhaps some think this is normal. I don't.

Anonymous said...

Our School Board members make many disingenous claims; some even on the website. Perhaps boro and board sites both need truth squad purges.

It's sacrilege in some circles to say this, but Sandy Gibson wasn't evil. However, many an SOC'er thinks she was, and everybody who disagrees with them gets labeled "pro-school" whining spawn of Gibson.

And yet ... they helped recruit her and get her elected, demanded that that incoming board be the deciders on fixing the buildings (Plan A, merger with Pennsbury failed) and then flipped the hell out when they ushered in the new school. Worob and his home furniture at the victory party, King of Morrisville... ring any bells? Never put forth anything resembling a strategy of their own to deal with the buildings, just Stop the School.

I think it's a valid point that SOC doesn't take any responsibility for that - they try to push it on others. I didn't vote for anyone on that ticket. Yes, that includes you Al and Gloria.

Speaking of tarring and feathering, Ron Stout publicly said that certain board members and administration officials should be tarred and feathered.

I don't want to see a single person lose their home or pay one single penny more in taxes for education.

But what I'd like SOC supporters to understand is the genuine fear and concern of parents and other community members that the public school board, as currently composed, may not know when to stop with the cutting and chipping away at educational offerings. They haven't shown incredible sensitivity to that sort of thing. They've also lied and put out false or self-serving information on a regular basis. They've shown a vindictive streak.

When you don't feel you have honest brokers, and you have 0 votes out of 9, and you're not sure you have strong advocates looking out for you from within, and you're not getting a lot of quality answers, can you see where that might cause some anxiety and tension?

I'm going to agree. Sandy is hardly evil. She is **gasp** a nice woman who wanted the best for this town. Unfortunately, what is best is under constant debate. Sandy is also extremely intelligent and volunteered a tremendous amount of her time toward this district -- far more than anyone else I've ever seen, myself included. We did not see eye to eye on everything, but we were in general agreement that we wanted the best for this little town.

Happy 4th of July to all our friends and community members. Be safe, have fun and say a little prayer for the troops making this all possible.
