-- To the Morrisville school board and district administration for paving over a popular basketball court outside Grandview Elementary School and then posting no-trespassing signs. There was no notice to the public that the court was being eliminated, and many parents and teens rightfully are upset. The court had the only regulation height basketball hoops in the entire town. "Since the taxpayers were not included in the $100,000-plus design and expense approval for the Grandview paving project, the basketball courts were taken out of the plan and away from the kids without consideration as to the impact it would have," said Wanda Kartal, a district parent. We urge the board to put the hoops back up and consider this Thumbs down a slam dunk!

Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people I've trusted
I've got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin' high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

This is a toothless barking dog. The board will ignore it and eventually the public will ignore it too. Apathy wins again.

People keep talkin' about me baby
Say I'm doin' you wrong
Well don't you worry, don't worry, no don't worry mama
Cause' I'm right here at home
You're the cutest thing I ever did see
Really love your peaches want to shake your tree
Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time
Come on baby now, I'll show you a good time

Where exactly in that Policy 707 does it say that the District has to get all law & order and trespass citation happy over the use of a district recreational asset?

1. Purpose

... The Morrisville Borough School District's
facilities, which include all athletic fields, should be made available for community
purposes provided that such use does not interfere with district and/or individual
school programs.

I'm very sorry if this leads to further antagonisms and crackdowns, but doesn't it seem like the same people who claim to fervently believe in "freedom" and strict construction of the U.S. Constitution and who believe that anything the Founding Fathers didn't explicitly state isn't covered also miraculously believe in the broadest all encompassing interpretation of laws/rule/policies if it involves trampling and getting medievel on some out group's a**es?

Freedom is nothing more than what the authorities define it as unless the people finally stand up to unjust authority.

Posts: 140 In regard to the Baketball nets being removed, try walking in any direction and you will notice that their are nets all over the neighborhood.

Is it the end of the world, no. this is an undeserved thumbs down.

the people are standing up and do not back down as easily as the board would like them to do these days, its a new regime as I see it

That parking lot cost over $100000?
I know a guy who would of done it for less. No way was that a $100000 job.

Apathy will not win! The public will not let the board "ignore" important issues any longer!
We must continue to stand up and make our voices heard. We will continue to fight the good fight, and believe me, we are growing in numbers! Hold on tight, it's gonna be a hell of a ride!

Yes.

"I know a guy who would of done it for less."

Too bad they didn't bid. Or did they?

"No way was that a $100000 job."

You are correct. It was a $143,491 job.

Amazed...

Not a 1 comment or concern regarding "Disability Insurance" for not only Superintendent but also entire Administrative Team. Seems like a "perk" while everyone is talking "cuts".

But let's focus on basketball courts...(a political diversion).

Let's go folks, this board and admin are in bed together. Figure it out, vote them out.

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't the Admin have to negotiate for that when their contract is renewed the next time? Or did they negotiate for the insurance as compensation for taking the pay freeze?

I don't know. It all happened kind of fast. I don't think there was any explanation of why or why now. Plus, apparently due to a copier problem, there was no back-up info in the public handouts, just the agenda with no details.

Lots of decisions get made at board meetings. Many are routine and non-controversial. Some are not. I don't remember the dollar amounts of this disability thing. I think it was a few thousand. How many battles do you want to pick? Some seem to believe that picking any battles at all leads to more antagonism and more reinforcing bad behavior by board members. By battles, I don't mean armed warfare, I mean legitimate fact-based criticism of decisions, actions, statements, or process.

The "thumbs down to the school board " was 100% spot on in my opinion and very much deserved. When they continue to make decisions without public input that impact many, then they deserve the negative press. As for the comment about there being "nets all over the neighborhood," a single net on someone's property is not the same as having a true basketball court at school for the kids to use.

Jon said...

I agree. I respectfully disagree that the basketball court is a political diversion. Peel everything back and the board voted to spend $143,491 on repaving Grandview and permanently removing basketball equipment with essentially no prior community input.

Since then, they've shuffled around to justify it, and seem to have settled on dusting off a policy (707) and interpreting it to justify citing people for trespassing. As someone mentioned above, it's hard to see where 707 intended that.

The situation may still be in flux, so we'll see how it works out. Time will tell, as it has many times before.

Since they couldn't decide if they had to vote on a donation or not....could someone in the community perhaps say donate hoops (and enough money to maintain said hoops) to be accepted? Oh but wait, it isn't about the money this time, my bad!

Oh what joy it must be to work under that regime.

Please don't go here. I don't want to play censor, and it pains me to have to defend people I wish weren't on the school board for many other reasons besides the cleanliness of their clothes and the like.

I hope everyone made it through Hurricane Irene relatively unscathed.

It was great to see so many in Morrisville out at the levee yesterday. So many both in town and from other areas came to the levee to check out the river. It was great to see people talking with each other, so many dogs, so many kids playing outside together & playing in the water, and even many people asking if they could help the borough workers with the pumps & hoses from the canal to the river. "Community" was in full force yesterday. Very well done Morrisville!
