Galloway needs help

It is a great disappointment that Rep. John Galloway chose to get behind the wheel of a car and drive while under the influence at 2 a.m. in the morning in Harrisburg recently. To claim to have cooperated fully with police, while published reports state he refused to take the breathalyzer test, is disturbing.
This is not the behavior that we should expect from any lawmaker in Harrisburg, especially one who has waved the flag of reform. I am sure that we all are relieved that Rep. Galloway did not cause or was part of a serious accident that could have resulted in injuries to him or others. While I may be a political opponent of Rep. Galloway, it is my sincerest hope that he seeks the help and assistance he needs.

Everyone must not have made enough of a stink about this so Jane thought she needed to take the reins on this.

Kind of funny that Jane is giving advise to anyone else about seeking help.

Galloway got stopped by an officer on the way back to his lodging apartment and the officer smelled alcohol – this is all we know. I have no idea if Galloway was drunk while driving, only that he had a drink – those are the facts without the elaborations. He was correct not to take the breathalyzer test. I wouldn’t have either, even if I hadn’t had anything to drink.
If he was drinking he was wrong, like there is anyone who doesn’t know that. I am shaded because I like the guy, but I would like to encourage everyone to look at the good work he has done for us all, what a good friend he has been to Morrisville Borough, and continue to support him. (Particularly when Jane Burger is the alternative)

As for Jane Burger - Jane give it up. You finally have something to hold over his head and go figure, it has nothing to do with his job as State Rep. Jane, I’ve seen you - I know for a fact that you have driven home after drinking many times, you just have a less distance to drive since we’re stuck with you here in Morrisville instead of Harrisburg. The gathering of cronies used to be at the Worob’s but now they are at your house Jane so you may not be driving but you are sending your puppets out to drive home afterwards.

We can only hope that Jane has been drunk behind the wheel of Morrisville Borough Council for the past twenty years. It would at least be an explanation as to why she was so negligent in her safeguarding of the borough yet so ambitious in her own power gripping gain.

I’ll take a drunk John Galloway over any kind of Jane Burger any day.

Who knew that Jane Burger was appointed to council way back in the day. What what's with the "Marozsan"? Don't forget that she and Jack Buckman literally abandoned their council jobs. Just a spoiled bunch of brats!

In the Third Ward, Jane Burger-Marozsan is running unopposed for one seat. Burger-Marozsan, a Republican, was appointed by the council last year to replace George Mount, who became executive director of the Morrisville Municipal Authority. No Democrats have filed.

http://articles.philly.com/1999-12-22/news/25481479_1_council-members-frequent-council-critic-lame-duck-council

As the council was poised to vote, council members Terry Phillips and Jack Buckman walked out of the room so there would be no quorum. Councilwoman Jane Burger joined them moments later. The plan, Phillips said, was to stall the vote on Dominic's replacement and prevent the lame-duck council from appointing the next mayor.

I don't think this is correct. I was always told that refusing was basically admission to guilt.

I found this with the help of Google.

http://www.padrunkdrivinglawyer.com/faqs.cfm

8. Q: What is a blood alcohol test?

A: This is a physical procedure to determine how much alcohol you actually have in your system. There are three ways of doing this test:

(1) Drawing a sample of blood from your arm;
(2) Obtaining a urine sample;
(3) Obtaining a breath sample by having you blow into a machine called a breathalyzer; (This is different from the field sobriety breath device described above.

The breathalyzer is much more sophisticated and exact.
You have the choice of which one of these three tests you will take. The only time your ability to choose which test you take can legally be restricted is if you are in a locality that simply does not have a breathalyzer. The officer is required to tell you that the option as to which test you take is up to you. But quite often officers will try to pressure or browbeat a person into taking the blood test because this is the most effective procedure for the prosecution to use against a person in court. You do not have the right to refuse to take any test. Legally, the officer could hold you down and forcibly draw a blood sample from your veins. In practice this rarely happens except where an accident is involved which caused death or serious bodily injury. Instead, if you refuse to take a test, your driver's license is automatically suspended for one year. Also, in your trial, the jury will be told that you refused to take the test and the judge will instruct the jury that they can consider your refusal as evidence of your guilt.

WOW - A walk down memory lane. Wrong though it was, I wasn't paying attention to this stuff years ago, when we were raising kids & we were much younger ourselves. In reading it I first thought that Jane would like it if people could just forget her past. Then I thought that she may not even care that people remember the past because she can just spin her web around it all.

To anyone thinking of voting for Debbie Smith or Graeme Thomson in the November elections, be warned they are both products of Jane Burger. Both are huge supporters of SOC. As we speak, I'm sure Jane is spending her time talking both of them up and bashing the others running every opportunity she gets. No doubt, both of their write in campaigns were Jane's brainchild. Jane knows she cannot get herself elected back into Morrisville politics and Debbie Smith is her ticket back in. Just listening to what both Smith & Thomson have had to say in campaigning, its totally negative. Smith even complained about the new lights on Bridge Street. Its been pretty funny. They want people to vote for them to work with the very people they are bashing now. How's that work?! They both sound just like what Morrisville has had enough of, more of the old guard bashing every chance they get. Just more Jane Burger brand of politics. No thank you.

As for the school board seats - all I can say is that I hope people take notice to why their property values are crashing. Continues to amaze me how people devalue the education of their community's children over the almighty dollar. I hope people wise up and see that they are getting what they pay for.

Graeme Thomson's running for council in Ward 2. He, Nancy Sherlock and Jeff Johnson are competing for 2 seats in Ward 2.
What is Debbie Smith running for? Who the heck is she? Never heard of her.

Anonymous said...

Johnson has been a volunteer in Morrisville & in Bucks County for years. He sits on the Morrisville Municipal Auhtority. He & Sherlock have been working together on different stuff for quite a few years. They will work together nicely in the 2nd ward as did Sherlock & Kathy Panzitta.

Debbie Smith is running in the 3rd ward for the seat of Rhonda Davis. She lives on Jane Burger's street. She didn't file a petition, but a write in campaign instead to get on the Nov ballot as a Republican. You may know who Smith is without realizing it. She and her husband have been attending school board meetings for a couple of years. Her husband is lean and wears a baseball cap. Smith is also thin with shoulder length hair that isn't quite red or brown. They have been outspoken supporters of SOT/SOC. I don't remember seeing her at anything but school board meetings until she started running for council. Since running, she is everywhere. Recently she has been attending council meetings. At the last one she complained about the mike she was using not working, the video booth not working - even though it is, about the new Bridge St lights, about council working on the pool problem and accused them of stockpiling money and of not being transparent. This would be a real shame for Morrisville to move backwards in this way.

Rhonda Davis has been an outstanding councilperson. She is bright, informed, very well educated, and respectful even when Rita Ledger or Eileen Driesbeck is yelling at her on the dais. She thinks about the whole borough in terms of moving forward not just what she can do for a few peeps or herself. In my opinion, she deserves to be re-elected to the position.

36 write-in candidates win primaries
By Theresa Hegel
Staff Writer Calkins Media, Inc. | 0 comments

There were 35 Bucks County candidates who won write-in campaigns in the primary election, but if they want to appear on the fall ballot there are still a few more hoops they must jump through.

This week, the county’s board of elections sent letters to all the winners, letting them know what steps they must take next, said Deena Dean, director of the board of elections.

Successful write-in candidates must fill out, sign and notarize an affidavit for write-in acceptance and complete a statement of financial interest, she said. The paperwork must be completed on or before Aug. 15.

To win a write-in campaign, a candidate must receive at least as many votes as the signature requirement for the nomination petition for that particular office. For instance, someone running for supervisor would need at least 10 votes.

If there is competition among write-ins, the person with the most votes would get the spot on the ballot.

This year, there were 15 write-in candidates who didn’t qualify for the fall election, either because there was already a candidate for that party who received more votes or because they lost to competition among other write-in candidates, Dean said.

The following candidates were not on the spring ballot for either party but won enough votes to be on the ballot in November:

*****
Morrisville: Deborah Smith, council 3rd Ward, four-year term, 53 Republican votes.

The following candidates, who were on the primary ballot under one party, received enough write-in votes to win a spot on the ballot for the other party:

*****
Morrisville: Nancy Sherlock, council second ward, four-year term, 15 Republican votes; Sherlock won Democratic nomination. Ormond Graeme Thomson, council second ward, four-year term, 13 Republican votes; Thomson lost Democratic nomination. Eric Hellmann, controller, four-year term, 15 Democratic votes. He won the Republican primary.

I am of a mind that many of the residents who get involved hoping to make a positive difference, find themselves confronted with the harsh realities of the circumstances and strictures that guide their roles, and taken together with the withering criticism of whomever opposes their views, they get sucked into the maelstrom of Morrisville politics, mudslinging and secretiveness. This isn't to say that there aren't some true villains/whackos, but I think many a good person was tarred and feathered and will never return to serve the boro. This leaves the door open for the fanatics. Perhaps if everyone learned to be more civil... Oh, I forgot, that'll never happen in this town. When we get new leaders, some concerned group will line up against them, cast them as the latest destroyer of the boro, and they will be villainized, castigated and burned in effigy until their spirit is worn away like countless others before them. It's not just one side or the other but the collective Modus Operandi of the town. Meet the new boss...the same as the old boss.. wash, rinse repeat.

This isn't about the strictures around the realities of governing. We all understand that day by day as we choose to not buy the HBO package so that we can buy groceries.

This is about the politics of destruction and its all done by one group. The SOCs have raised personal destruction to an art. I don't think there's a trustworthy bone among them but even they occasionally have a good idea. I can say that and independently evaluate their performance.

They on the other hand, give no quarter and destroy anyone standing in their way. Dr. Yonson is a good example. For them, the only good opposition is an opposition ground into complete submission, eradicated, destroyed, and flushed down the toilet.

Elect these people at your peril.

"Trust, but verify" was a signature phrase adopted and made famous by U.S. president Ronald Reagan. Reagan frequently used it when discussing U.S. relations with the Soviet Union. Reagan rightly presented it as a translation of the Russian proverb "doveryai, no proveryai".

The "verify" part led to my mistrust of the usual SOC suspects.

It's just sad. Everywhere you turn in this town there's so much negativity. Look in the mirror people. Do you like what you see? The negativity just feeds on itself. Break the cycle. Don't become like those who you claim to despise. Rise above the pettiness. Approach every challenge with a positive attitude instead of finding fault, find solutions. I guess it's just too much to hope for. I'll be sad when I leave this town, the town with so much unrealized potential, and no will to pursue it.

I think it would help immensely if you shut down this blog and were real peachy nice and just cooperated and let things happen as they may.

Don't point out all the lies and misinformation. Don't call anyone on hypocritical statements and behavior and broken promises. That irritates the people who do it, who just happen to be on the school board.

Just smile and nod. You will get so much more with honey than with vinegar.

If you're nicer, maybe they'll cut less curriculum, sports, arts, music, and aides next year.

If you're nicer, maybe they'll do a little more in the way of traffic safety.

Kind of made me laugh that the person talking about not being negative ended the comment on a negative note.

I think there is always a lot of positive stuff going on in Morrisville. But politics is what it is. As long as there is a group of people spewing lies, there will be people calling them on it, as it should be. Sometimes standing up for yourself, for another, for a group, etc., is negative, but it still needs to be done. An old saying goes that every lie not defended becomes a truth to others.

Send semi-friendly emissaries into the 'other group's camp'. Befriend them. Learn their ways. Learn their interests - other than ultra low or no taxes for themselves, abolishing the school district and sticking it to people they don't like - or taxing people out of their homes and building expensive monuments to themselves - those are the only 2 choices. Share casual chit chats. Laugh along with them. Hold your nose and your tongue if you have to. Figuratively, not literally, this may be a dead giveaway. Find out what really makes them tick. Use the trust you've gained to subtly influence their decisions in favor of things you want and hold most dear - or to neutralize any criticism. It's beautiful. You can't lose. No one will ever know. It can't possibly backfire. Even if it does, everybody will understand. There can't possibly be any repurcussions. Good luck!

Two things- if you have a current 5th, 6th, or 7th grader from any of the sending school districts to the Bucks Tech School their summer exploratory program still has some slots open.

They have multiple classes to choose from, you get a choice of 3, each runs for 1 week (M-Th 8-12) they provide bus pickup and dropoff from your towns high school.

Its $275 for all three weeks. I cannot say enough about it. Although yesterday was last day to enroll, they have slots open in some of the classes and it would be worth 3 weeks of you not hearing 'im bored"...

‎2nd thing- the YMCA's will be offering a free membership again to all 7th graders starting this Sept. You have to be going into the 7th grade this Fall and you sign up with your student ID. A FREE basic membership saves you great money and they get discounted prices to some of the extra programs.

It is an awesome opportunity for your 7th grader.

I just read an article on www.msnbc.msn.com "Morrisville seeks debt reduction on pool"

Share Print Font:
For months now, Morrisville officials have been working to lower a debt that led the council to raise taxes this year by $20.
A few residents, including Debbie Smith, are wondering what's happening to that money, since they haven't seen or heard of any progress with the Morrisville Community Pool's debt.
Councilman Victor Cicero assured Smith, who questioned the council earlier this month, that the money being collected is going into the recreation budget, not the borough's general fund.
The extra $20 per property, representing a 1-mill tax increase, will bring in $58,898 that will be used toward the Morrisville Community Pool's debt of about $75,000, councilwoman Nancy Sherlock had said.
Councilman David T. Rivella, although unsure of the total debt amount as of Tuesday, said he's aware of two mortgages as well as state and federal liens.
"The borough has authorized our solicitor to be our agent in trying to negotiate the liens down," he said. "The mortgage company is willing to talk but I haven't heard that the IRS is, but I'm hopeful. Our hope was and is still to have our solicitor negotiate the liens down in order for the borough to spend as little as possible to take possession of the property."
Morrisville Swimming Pool Inc. owns the property, which has two swimming pools in Williamson Park, but a clause in the 1954 deed states the pools will revert to the borough if they're abandoned, officials have said.
Advertise | AdChoices

The gates to the independently-operated Morrisville Community Pool haven't opened since 2009, after years of struggling to stay afloat financially. The swim club board blamed declining memberships and attendance as well as keeping up with new safety laws for putting too great a financial strain on the club.
Since the pool's closure two years ago, the borough has maintained the property and secured its equipment. However, the property is considered by residents and some council members an eyesore because it's vacant. A chain link fence surrounding the pool grounds holds no trespassing signs every dozen feet or so.
"Even though the borough does not own the pool, I see that we have a black eye on our community with a blighted pool that also raises some public safety concerns," said Rivella.
He added that once Morrisville owns the property, the borough will have additional options, including entering into a public/private partnership with someone who would like to put in a new pool. Another possibility is filling in the pools with dirt. "While (filling in the pool) would not be my first choice, it would still be better than what is currently there now," Rivella said.
The pools were built in 1956 at the 40-acre borough-owned park along the banks of the Delaware River. They fell on hard times after a storm caused floodwaters from the river and the Delaware Canal swamped the park in April 2005, officials have said. The flood cracked and destroyed one of the pools. By the time the pools closed, there were about 125 members compared to its heyday membership of between 400 and 500 members.
The pools needs repairs that would cost between $300,000 and $400,000, Sherlock has said, and the borough just can't possibly fit such an expense into its budget.
"We are working on this but the process takes time," Rivella said. "I would love to have this behind us and be working on the next phase of the property —deciding exactly what to do with it. We don't own it yet so we can't fix it just yet. I would like to remind our residents that this is not a bail out for the pool board to allow them to continue on, this is about the borough stepping up to fix a blighted property that has safety concerns by obtaining it."

Excerpt from June-July newsletter on district website:

Of interest to Morrisville residents is the $17.2 million school budget which is ready for adoption on June 29th. The budget was a work in progress for many months and the end result is an efficient budget with no tax increase for Morris- ville property owners. And it represents a 5% decrease over last year’s budget. The school business administrator has worked closely with school administrators and the school board to achieve a feasible school budget in difficult economic times. If approved on June 29th this will be the second consecutive school budget without a tax increase. In the previous two years property owners received a tax decrease.

District administrators note education has not been affected by adjustments that were made in reaching a no-tax-increase budget. There were several reasons why the budget was stripped of unnecessary expenses, notably a drastic reduction in state aid to the district and increased costs.

"Morrisville is especially proud of its high school student achievers who worked
very hard to excel in extra-curricular activities such as the Leadership Academy,

Note to writer(s) of the newsletter - Odyssey of the Mind was a 5th grade activity. No other grades were involved from Morrisville. Please check the facts and state them properly.

I am very proud of all the 5th graders who took part in the program and the competition. Great job!

"Is Debbie Smith an "activist" who speaks out, asks the tough questions, and demands accountability from public officials? Or a sand pounding whiner nuisance?"

In my opinion, she's just another one of Jane's puppets. What touch questions? demands accountability? I don't get it. Council talks about the pool situation regularly (I think it was the last three meetings in a row). Smith just isn't paying attention at all, then goes to the meeting & whines and complains without even caring that the info she is putting out there to the public isn't accurate. I will in no way support an attempt at getting Jane Burger back on council - out in front, or behind the scenes. I want nothing to do with her. She created Hellman, Worob, Stout, etc and this is just another opportunity for her to She, her followers and their ability to pull the wool over so many eye's for their own personal gain is what's wrong with Morrisville.

"A few residents, including Debbie Smith, are wondering what's happening to that money, since they haven't seen or heard of any progress with the Morrisville Community Pool's debt."

I'm assuming its a long process because they are dealing with old information, the IRS, banks & a nonexistant pool board. Then they have the added bonuses of things like the residents who tell everyone that the borough already owns the pool to stir the pot, our Mayor telling everyone there is no pool debt, which obviously isn't the truth, and the Debbie Smith's of Morrisville who come to public comment accusing folks of being dishonest about the situation because they are bothering to go thru the proper channels. the money is where they said it would be at budget time, in with the Rec Brd funds. That's a no brainer. I didn't expect the process to happen overnight, but at least they have started the process which is more than I could say for the Jane Burger council of yesterday. Wondering what's happening to the money? I don't understand this. I agree with above that she isn't paying attention. If she is running for a seat on council she should at least know the public information pertaining to running the borough. If I know it, she surely should. I'm thinking she does know but is taking the same old negative approach of yesterday in campaigning. Break somebody down to build yourself up, the Jane Burger motto.

I like the current council makeup. They seem to care about Morrisville and its future. I would like to see council continue to move forward. I don't know why anyone would want another obstructionist sitting in the mix.

"They advocated a high pressure, win-at-any-cost approach, advising activists to use ridicule, agitate and disrupt to get what they wanted."

There are senior housing units but there are also a bit of low-income housing units in the Presbyterian Towers. Could she be living in one of them? The idea of my family paying for anything for Mihok makes me want to go take a shower.

Re: the Tea Party article,

Thanks. Don't you just hate it when you wrap yourselves up in a flag and pictures of the Founding Fathers and think of yourselves as the real, true Americans fighting to take America back from the 'other' people who allegedly have it, only to find that millionaires and billionaires and corporate interest have been pulling your strings for their own interests?

Have you paid your water bill? If you did, you paid a little bit extra to cover the people who didn't.

I just read the online newsletter for the Morrisville School District.

"District administrators note education has not been affected by adjustments that
were made in reaching a no-tax-increase budget."

How the heck could they possibly know if education is affected. That will not be known until its too late, the damage will be done to the children. yes...I know, it has nothing to do with education and everything to do with money and ego.

"In the upcoming weeks, renovations will be made to the Grandview Elementary
School parking lot, including a reconfiguring of traffic patterns to alleviate problems
when children are dropped off or picked up. Improvements to the parking
and access areas is a high priority and school officials believe change is necessary
to ensure the safety of children as they arrive and leave the school."

The people trying to use Grandview Ave as an actual street will be happy to hear this since the school district has used Grandview Ave as a parking lot for the past few years. I still cannot believe the school district is getting away with that one. Its a public road that the public cannot use because of bad planning on the part of the school board. LOL I wonder what would happen if that situation was in the 1st or 3rd ward.

Powerful 4th Ward interests on the school board Worobs, Buckman and Mihok {until recently} seem to be OK with the mess

What is this, like the 3rd year in a row we've seen statements from "district administrators" that education hasn't been affected by budget cuts? And yet, programs and activities and offerings that used to exist don't exist. So I'm really torn about who to believe, them or my lying eyes.
