Morrisvillesfuture blog, where are you? Why did you remove the comments? I'd comment there but I can't, you took away the ability to do that. It's really disappointing that you've seemingly retreated into some sort of strange neutral zone or even covert support of Stay on Course. What was it that caused you to do this? Why so coy? Can you at least offer a rational explanation? I'd really like to know who you support and why.
I hate to see division when I think there's much more common ground among "us" than with SOC. Let's say you don't personally like one or more of the Morrisville Matters candidates. Why would that make you throw your lot in with a Hellmann, a Mihok, a Worob, ....? You've seen the track record. Do you really trust them? Do you really think they're representing you? I really want to know.
Also, I don't want anyone to think I wrestled the blogosphere away from anyone by starting this here blog. Necessity was the mother of invention. The other blog seemed to sputter out at a critical time, about 1 month before the May 17 primary election. That's 99.44% of why I started this blog. I was quite happy to post on the other one. But I must say I'm also glad I can cut back on my own comments and let other able commenters fill the space.

As the parents of a son about to enter kindergarten, we want to thank Morrisville Matters and their supporters for sticking up for Full Day Kindergarten. It was on the March agenda for elimination and we think the attention Morrisville Matters and concerned supporters brought to it saved it ( at least for now).

MORRISVILLE STUDENT WINS REGIONAL ART POSTER CONTEST
Congratulations to Morrisville High School student Jenna Kownacky for winning first place in the Eastern Area Conference of the Links, Inc.
The talented 11th grade student was awarded $500 and a plaque by the Bucks County Chapter of the LINKS, Inc. at the start of the May 25th Morrisville School Board meeting. With her mother at her side, Jenna accepted the award and thanked the members of the LINKS chapter.
This regional contest award is the culmination of a contest that began in Morrisville in March with about 465 students taking part in the health and fitness poster contest. Jenna was a first-place winner, along with three other students.
The Morrisville students and their grade category are: Sam Coscia, grades 1-3; Madison Castillo, grades 4-6, and Sarah Zawodniak, grades 7-9.
The first place winners’were entered in a competition with top winners from 73 Eastern Area LINKS chapters. Again, we congratulate Jenna for representing her school and the Bucks County Chapter, so well.
Deborah Camp-Frye, president of LINKS Bucks County chapter and Nancy Reid, the Arts Facet chairperson, presented the award and also complimented Morrisville art teachers Wendy Craig and Susan Casey, and Grandview Elementary Principal Laurie Ruffing for their commitment and participation in the awards program.
I believe we (the collective "we" of concerned citizens, parents, taxpayers, etc. who are legitimately critical of certain board actions and methods) are making a difference against the juggernaut of ideological hardheads who run the school show.
This has been continuous campaign season for many months now, so these hardheads are on their best behavior, which still ain't too good. Keep that in mind, 'cause with these guys payback is just around the corner and it's a b****.

FYI - Wed, June 8th and Thurs, June 9th will be early dismissal days for grades 4 thru 12 due to the excessive heat warning that is in effect. Students will be dismissed at 11am. There is a special announcement on the district website regarding this matter.
Unfortunately if you are not on the Web or on Facebook parents still do not know about the school closing early yet at 5:50pm...Not a good notification to those who are not on the computer all day.

Who cares? Its just a bunch of un-disciplined children, whiney un-involved parents and greedy union members inconvenienced a couple days a year. It cools me down to think of the money we saved not blowing it on A.C. for them.
It is just awful that the 4th through 12th grade students missed time at school last week and will miss time at school again this week. I can remeber past comments made at school board meetings from members of the community saying something to the effect of the state of the school building(s) doesn't effect the quality of education. Well thinking about that now all I can say is that I can clearly see that it does effect the quality of education provided when the facility has not been kept in good enough order forcing students to miss what should be valuable instruction time. I am sorry I ever volted for any of the current school board. I now believe that they were wrong and those people who voted for them were too. I hope everyone can see the error of their ways and do something to correct the building problems for good. It may cost some money now but we wouldn't have these rediculous problems anymore.

I believe you missed the terms "lazy" for the children, "sand pounders" for the parents, and "part-time" for the teachers. If you're going to do an impression of the esteemed Morrisville stay-on-course-stay-on-track-stop-the-school-do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" school board, you at least need to get the terms right.

This isn't a Harrisburg blog, it's mostly about the local school board right here in Morrisville. But I'll post Harrisburg stuff about things like State Educational aid, voucher legislation, etc. Is that what you're talking about?
If you want something else, you'll need to go somewhere else. You can come here too -- you choose. I won't delete your posts, tell you to shut up, tell you to just cooperate, or tell people not to listen to you because you're a small minded person. That's already been done to others by your friends on the school board.
The heat is a safety issue because the board could have done renovations properly but chose to cheap out, leaving large significant areas of the building un air-conditioned and vulnerable to hot weather.
Winter brings missed snow days primarily because of travel on snowy or icy roads, not because of conditions inside the school buildings. However, note that the heating systems failed to operate properly at the High School throughout the entire 2009-10 heating season. Heat was unbalanced, with some rooms too hot, some too cold. I seem to recall a 6-figure change order to try to remedy this. People did blog and comment publicly about shortcomings and offered suggestions for improving the district's snow day notification "system".
Oh, I see. Our PA Rep. John Galloway (D-140th District) was arrested for DUI. Lets focus on this, because this will help explain why the Morrisville School Board chose not to air condition significant portions of the High School building, which now houses Grades 4-12.

Is this the kind of responsiveness you're looking for in a school board member? This actually qualifies as above average on the current school board.

My God! What a breathtaking display of public idiocy. Must be one of the board appointees. The elected board members [so far] are usually a little smarter.
The issue here is that the current school board screwed up and didn't do enough renovations to fit a 1950s building into the realities of the 21st century.
I get it: Don't build a new school. Do you get it? Make the school we have RIGHT!
They starved the beast. As soon as they got into office, they gave back the lion's share of the bond money - before they knew what needed to be done and how much it would cost. The money's gone. There's none left for anything beyond token levels. In their world, they blame others and bring up red herring diversions for their mistakes and shortcomings. Yeah, I'm tired of it too.
All those years, decades really, of the same people neglecting the buildings, putting it off, wait until the next board is seated - let them make the decisions, then recruiting and electing people who ushered in the new school, then fighting the new school, then catapulting into office on a stop the new school platform, and ... this is the best they could do?
I'm confused. Was the "Harrisburg boo boo" Galloway's DUI or education funds cutting Gov Corbett and Lt Gov Cawley getting new $53000 SUVs and their wives getting new $40000 SUVs?
I can't find the on-line version, but today's BCCT has an article "Schools Announce Early Dismissals". It mentions several lower Bucks districts and what they're doing about the heat. A couple interesting excerpts:
Council Rock - "Schools that are climate controlled, such as Churchville Elementary, Newtown Elementary, Rolling Hills Elementary, the middle and high schools, will remain open for the full school day, officials said."
Bensalem - "Bensalem school officials said their buildings are air conditioned and there will be no early dismissals."
Silly me, I thought when we paid millions of dollars for "renovations" including AC, we were getting AC to eliminate or greatly reduce early dismissals in hot weather. The district newsletters, BCCT articles etc about the renovations didn't say anything about how the AC is only in parts of the building, and that when it gets hot there will be early dismissals as though there's no A.C. at all. How half-arsed can you get???

What was he thinking? We just don’t understand how Gov. Tom Corbett, proposer of a billion dollar cut in education funding, could at the same time splurge on not one but two brand new $53,000 Chevy Suburbans, one for himself and one for Lt. Gov. James Cawley. And not one but two new Chevy Traverses, $40,000 each, one for Mrs. Corbett and one for Mrs. Cawley. Total bill to taxpayers: $186,000.
Now, the governor didn’t place the order for the new cars. The state police, who provide transportation and security for the governor and lieutenant governor, decided on the need for new wheels and picked the vehicles. The governor’s old car, a hand-me-down from former Gov. Ed Rendell, “had about 160,000 to 170,000 miles on it,” according to Corbett, who described his ex-ride as “pretty beaten up.”
We’re not saying the governor should be driven around in a clunker; he’s the governor after all. And 53 grand, compared to what some luxury cars sell for, isn’t going crazy. But did the governor’s backup need a new car, too? And his wife? And Mrs. No. 2?
Seems not only financially imprudent, but also thoughtless. The economy is a wreck right now and the governor’s budget proposal reflects the tough times. The state is in the red and the governor has slashed spending in an effort to narrow a $4 billion gap in the state budget. Corbett’s most controversial proposal is the aforementioned cutback in education funding. School districts are scrambling, trying to adjust to life after education-friendly Ed Rendell. We’re all going to pay higher property taxes as a result, and school programs will get stripped down.
It matters not that the proposed cut reflects a loss of federal stimulus money, which the ex-governor, in our view, misdirected to public schools, state colleges and universities. It was supposed to be used for “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects. And by no means does Pennsylvania have a shortage of rotting bridges and crumbling highways. But that’s water under the rusty bridge.
What matters is what the governor’s been telling us. “The sacrifice must be collective,” Corbett said during his March 8 budget address, a theme he has repeated numerous times since then.
By collective he means that all of us need to accept new spending limits. Indeed, lots of Pennsylvanians will be affected as funding cuts put a crimp in all sorts of government programs at all levels. The schools are just the most visible target. Nearly as controversial — and painful for those affected — is the governor’s decision to discontinue funding for adultBasic, the state-subsidized health plan that covered more than 42,000 working poor.
If hard-working, low-income citizens can do without affordable health insurance, the governor, lieutenant governor and their wives can do without shiny new, taxpayer-funded cars.
Coming to the governor’s defense, Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley said, “I don’t think (the governor) knew he was getting a new car until he actually got it.” We don’t doubt it. It was a state police decision. But Corbett has final say. He could have and probably should have ordered the cars to be returned — if not all of them, at least two or three.
Bottom line: He should have shown better leadership. He should have set a good example.
We don’t begrudge the governor the dignity and security of a vehicle befitting his stature. But there’s no reason why Cawley and the wives couldn’t be driven around in cars more in tune with the hard times and also more in keeping with the nation’s energy policy. We’re thinking maybe a mid-size Chevy or Ford, something that won’t induce sticker shock or guzzle gas.
For a final word on the matter we turn to political analyst Terry Madonna: “I think in this day and age, it has to be about shared sacrifice. Public officails cannot ask voters to accept cuts and reduction of services without themselves leading the way.”
In an October 9, 2003 (yes, 2003) newspaper article about the Morrisville School Board evaluating options (new, renovate, etc.). Steve Worob was quoted as follows:
"But Stephen Worob, a borough councilman who was a member of the school board, said the board had no right to have that conversation since some of its members will be gone after November's elections. He also chided them for using a feasibility study that he called a "sham" used by Superintendent John Gould to trick the board into approving a bond issue.
"I'm concerned that a lame-duck school board is dicsussing this," he said. You should wait until December so that the new board can decide how our dollars are spent".
And the rest is history. The "new board" he and many current Stay on Trackers helped get elected voted for the $30 million new school bond issue. At a post-victory party at HIS HOUSE, he got up on his furniture and proclaimed himself the "King of Morrisville".
Hey - look back here. BCCT gives a Thumbs Down... (read and then think about how Morrisville's Superintendent selection process has gone down):
- To the secrecy-shrouded selection process most school boards use to appoint superintendents.
Take the Pennsbury school board. If all went as planned, the board majority's choice was introduced at Thursday night's meeting. We say "introduced" because district residents weren't told a thing about that candidate or any of the others before board members made up their minds. All that was left was a rubber-stamp vote at a "public" meeting. Here's a better way. Hold public interviews, rather than closed-door meetings, when candidates are questioned so the public can hear what they have to say. After all, citizens are paying the salary.
Morrisville has a great superintendent selection process. Identify the successor years in the future, harass the incumbent until they leave, pony up big bucks, and appoint the new superintendent.
Its a national trend and if its down its really risen and why do so many people go to Olive Garden there are good non chain Italian restaurants?? Why don't you blog about Anthony's Weiner what don't you want people to know about it?? Why haven't we put men on the moon in 40 years, astronauts get As and Bs but they dont count, Appollo 13 used slide rules to gravity slingshot back to earth you dont see slide rules anymore and thats what's wrong with you people???

MORRISVILLE STUDENTS ON THE JOB Improving the “great outdoors”
The Morrisville Environmental Club is focused on a natural site, in the shadow of a Falls Township landfill. A small group of Morrisville’s intermediate and high school students got together this month and “dug in” to establish a natural garden that eventually will become an established butterfly garden.
The outdoor work began this month and will continue through July at the site located adjacent to Wheelabrator Falls, a Waste Management facility on New Ford Mill Road.
Under the guidance and inspiration of environmental club advisor Elizabeth Glaum-Lathbury, the club members introduced butterfly-friendly plants and flowers to the garden developing around a couple of huge, centerpiece boulders. Glaum-Lathbury said she expects the newly established garden will eventually become a way station for the migrating Monarch butterflies known to travel long distances.
With the help of young environmentalists, the project eventually will grow, expanding on the acres far beyond the New Ford Mill site with native trees, shrubs and trails toward the Delaware River. Waste Management partnered with the Morrisville club to provide the space and materials to help the students develop their project.

Although, correct me if I'm wrong, she's also a French teacher, and attempts have been made to say au revoir to French.
Also, I note that the Student Activities budget (Line 3200) is drastically reduced vs. last year ($292k vs. $153k, almost a 50% cut).
So, I ask you, Mr./Mrs. "Responsable" Leadership, since I think you're on the board and I think someone on the board should at least have an inkling about what's being cut and why - what's being cut and why?

I'm reading the Sarah Palin emails that were released and her morally bankrupt governing style is just like the Morrisville school boards morally bankrupt style. This illustrates just how the Stay on Coarse group functions.

the Morrisville Service Learning Club went to Dorney Park today for their end of year trip! they work so very hard during the year helping the community (food pantry, soup kitchen, canal cleanup, coupons for military families etc) they deserve a great day out. Hope the weather holds up.
The Morrisville Performing Arts Booster club held their end of year picnic for all students who participated in the arts/music programs throughout the year. The party was at the Oxford Valley Pool in Fairless Hills and what a great spot for the kids on one of the hottest nights. Thank you to all who organized the event! The kids had a great time!

To anonymous above. Once again neither of these events have anything to do with the school board. Funding and organization of the Service learning program is from the 21st century grant program. All Funding and organization of the Performance arts student picnic comes from a group of hard working parents who fundraise throughout the year and organize a party for these hard working special kids at year end. Thank you very much to the 21st century grant prople and the PABs. No thanks necessary to the school board. They are not involved and could care less as long as they don't have to pay for anything.

Anonymous above. You choose to look at things in a very distorted way. I assume you are a SIC supporter or possibly a school board member. As such I don't expect anhything less than your trying to spin things to look good for this board. The reality is that that the PABS have been in existence way before this school board and have provided parties, special events, and even partial payment of band uniforms as well as support to the teachers and kids in the PA programs in many ways way BEFORE THIS CURRENT SOT/SOC school board was elected. So please don't give the current school board any credit for saving the taxpayers money in this instance. The PABs sponsored event(s) have been in place long before this board came into the picture. The PABs have been aroung doing these kinds of things since the reestablishedment of the band program after it was CUT some years back by a prior board. By the way there were at least one if not more current school board members on the board that CUT the band program back then. It has taken many years to get a program up to par with the one that had been cut. If it hadn't been cut back then it would have had the time to grow into an even better program than it is now. That cut was actually a true waste of taxpayer money by the board that cut it. I hope those on that prior board who are currently on this board learned somehting from that mistake but I highly doubt it. They are all about cutting pennies now without any thought to the effects on the future. As for the 21st Century Grant program. That too was not created, invisioned, or funded in any way by this current school board. The school board is just lucky that the grant was and is in place. I commend the 21st century grant program for all their efforts. They are a godsend to this enitre community. Imagine what lack of activities for students there would be without the grant money.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the 21st Century Grant budget for the coming school year (2011-12) is down about $250,000 ($684k vs. $934k). This is a federally funded program. I don't know what new money "Responsable Leadership" above thinks the school board found, but it ain't there. I see no evidence of any new money this school board found anywhere, even though Hellmann claimed they would pursue new sources of funding.
11/18/2009 Board minutes --> In one of his patented statements embedded in the minutes, Hellmann said the board would continue to seek our grants and other new sources of revenue. How has that worked out?
Actually to the anonymous SOC supporter, the parents have always supported the kids, contributed to partys/trips and all fundraising efforts, attended events, sent money in for trips, volunteered our time, chipped in for tissues/glue/supplies/hand sanitizer when asked, cheered at the games, waived our flags with pride at the parades and still paid the highest school taxes around. What was the last event Hellman attended, supported, purchased a ticket to or bought a candy bar just because? How many events have you supported, contributed to and cheered at even when your kids were out of school just because you are a member of the community and are part of the school system?
Former Morrisville Head Football Coach Jim Gober, along with former Assistants Demetrius Roberts and Dennis Cox will be coaching the South All Stars in the Bob Sands Bucks County Football Classic.
Morrisville Seniors Orlando Tirado (#42), Matt Cookson (#8) and Julian Walker (#6) were selected to play in the game and represent Morrisville because of their accomplishments during the 2010 season.
The game was moved to Monday 7pm at War Memorial Field, CB West High School.
I hear there was a shake up with the aides on Friday. Many reassigned and no more general classroom aides, only one-on-one and special needs kids. That ought to be interesting for the younger grades.
Okay I'll add a comment. I heard that the Family consumer Science program, which would have been the Home Economics type program in my day will be ending this year. I was told that starting in September the teacher will be teaching some of the special ed kids that are being brought back to the school in an effort to cut costs of alternative education programs. I heard that there will be no replacement teacher hired or moved into the Family Consumer Science program. Thus no program. Call it what you will but certainly seems like a prgram cut to me. Lets hope it is just a vicious rumor. I take that back. Most rumors have turned out to be true more often than not in Morrisville.
The "rumor" about the current Family Consumer Science teacher is not a rumor. Mrs. Y has been reassigned to special ed for sure. I know one of the students she was assigned to.
I guess we should "thank GOD" for all these retreaded Stop the Schoolers have done to stop the district. They're well ahead of schedule.

I'll second that emotion.
I hate to see division when I think there's much more common ground among "us" than with SOC. Let's say you don't personally like one or more of the Morrisville Matters candidates. Why would that make you throw your lot in with a Hellmann, a Mihok, a Worob, ....? You've seen the track record. Do you really trust them? Do you really think they're representing you? I really want to know.
Also, I don't want anyone to think I wrestled the blogosphere away from anyone by starting this here blog. Necessity was the mother of invention. The other blog seemed to sputter out at a critical time, about 1 month before the May 17 primary election. That's 99.44% of why I started this blog. I was quite happy to post on the other one. But I must say I'm also glad I can cut back on my own comments and let other able commenters fill the space.

MORRISVILLE STUDENT WINS REGIONAL ART POSTER CONTEST
Congratulations to Morrisville High School student Jenna Kownacky for winning first place in the Eastern Area Conference of the Links, Inc.
The talented 11th grade student was awarded $500 and a plaque by the Bucks County Chapter of the LINKS, Inc. at the start of the May 25th Morrisville School Board meeting. With her mother at her side, Jenna accepted the award and thanked the members of the LINKS chapter.
This regional contest award is the culmination of a contest that began in Morrisville in March with about 465 students taking part in the health and fitness poster contest. Jenna was a first-place winner, along with three other students.
The Morrisville students and their grade category are: Sam Coscia, grades 1-3; Madison Castillo, grades 4-6, and Sarah Zawodniak, grades 7-9.
The first place winners’were entered in a competition with top winners from 73 Eastern Area LINKS chapters. Again, we congratulate Jenna for representing her school and the Bucks County Chapter, so well.
Deborah Camp-Frye, president of LINKS Bucks County chapter and Nancy Reid, the Arts Facet chairperson, presented the award and also complimented Morrisville art teachers Wendy Craig and Susan Casey, and Grandview Elementary Principal Laurie Ruffing for their commitment and participation in the awards program.

FYI - Wed, June 8th and Thurs, June 9th will be early dismissal days for grades 4 thru 12 due to the excessive heat warning that is in effect. Students will be dismissed at 11am. There is a special announcement on the district website regarding this matter.
Unfortunately if you are not on the Web or on Facebook parents still do not know about the school closing early yet at 5:50pm...Not a good notification to those who are not on the computer all day.
Thank goodness someone is looking out for the parents.

It is just awful that the 4th through 12th grade students missed time at school last week and will miss time at school again this week.
I can remeber past comments made at school board meetings from members of the community saying something to the effect of the state of the school building(s) doesn't effect the quality of education.
Well thinking about that now all I can say is that I can clearly see that it does effect the quality of education provided when the facility has not been kept in good enough order forcing students to miss what should be valuable instruction time.
I am sorry I ever volted for any of the current school board. I now believe that they were wrong and those people who voted for them were too.
I hope everyone can see the error of their ways and do something to correct the building problems for good. It may cost some money now but we wouldn't have these rediculous problems anymore.

I believe you missed the terms "lazy" for the children, "sand pounders" for the parents, and "part-time" for the teachers. If you're going to do an impression of the esteemed Morrisville stay-on-course-stay-on-track-stop-the-school-do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" school board, you at least need to get the terms right.

This isn't a Harrisburg blog, it's mostly about the local school board right here in Morrisville. But I'll post Harrisburg stuff about things like State Educational aid, voucher legislation, etc. Is that what you're talking about?
If you want something else, you'll need to go somewhere else. You can come here too -- you choose. I won't delete your posts, tell you to shut up, tell you to just cooperate, or tell people not to listen to you because you're a small minded person. That's already been done to others by your friends on the school board.
The heat is a safety issue because the board could have done renovations properly but chose to cheap out, leaving large significant areas of the building un air-conditioned and vulnerable to hot weather.
Winter brings missed snow days primarily because of travel on snowy or icy roads, not because of conditions inside the school buildings. However, note that the heating systems failed to operate properly at the High School throughout the entire 2009-10 heating season. Heat was unbalanced, with some rooms too hot, some too cold. I seem to recall a 6-figure change order to try to remedy this. People did blog and comment publicly about shortcomings and offered suggestions for improving the district's snow day notification "system".

My God! What a breathtaking display of public idiocy. Must be one of the board appointees. The elected board members [so far] are usually a little smarter.
The issue here is that the current school board screwed up and didn't do enough renovations to fit a 1950s building into the realities of the 21st century.
I get it: Don't build a new school.

They starved the beast. As soon as they got into office, they gave back the lion's share of the bond money - before they knew what needed to be done and how much it would cost. The money's gone. There's none left for anything beyond token levels. In their world, they blame others and bring up red herring diversions for their mistakes and shortcomings. Yeah, I'm tired of it too.
All those years, decades really, of the same people neglecting the buildings, putting it off, wait until the next board is seated - let them make the decisions, then recruiting and electing people who ushered in the new school, then fighting the new school, then catapulting into office on a stop the new school platform, and ... this is the best they could do?

I can't find the on-line version, but today's BCCT has an article "Schools Announce Early Dismissals". It mentions several lower Bucks districts and what they're doing about the heat. A couple interesting excerpts:
Council Rock - "Schools that are climate controlled, such as Churchville Elementary, Newtown Elementary, Rolling Hills Elementary, the middle and high schools, will remain open for the full school day, officials said."
Bensalem - "Bensalem school officials said their buildings are air conditioned and there will be no early dismissals."
Hmmmmmmmm.
Silly me, I thought when we paid millions of dollars for "renovations" including AC, we were getting AC to eliminate or greatly reduce early dismissals in hot weather.
The district newsletters, BCCT articles etc about the renovations didn't say anything about how the AC is only in parts of the building, and that when it gets hot there will be early dismissals as though there's no A.C. at all.
How half-arsed can you get???

What was he thinking? We just don’t understand how Gov. Tom Corbett, proposer of a billion dollar cut in education funding, could at the same time splurge on not one but two brand new $53,000 Chevy Suburbans, one for himself and one for Lt. Gov. James Cawley. And not one but two new Chevy Traverses, $40,000 each, one for Mrs. Corbett and one for Mrs. Cawley. Total bill to taxpayers: $186,000.
Now, the governor didn’t place the order for the new cars. The state police, who provide transportation and security for the governor and lieutenant governor, decided on the need for new wheels and picked the vehicles. The governor’s old car, a hand-me-down from former Gov. Ed Rendell, “had about 160,000 to 170,000 miles on it,” according to Corbett, who described his ex-ride as “pretty beaten up.”
We’re not saying the governor should be driven around in a clunker; he’s the governor after all. And 53 grand, compared to what some luxury cars sell for, isn’t going crazy. But did the governor’s backup need a new car, too? And his wife? And Mrs. No. 2?
Seems not only financially imprudent, but also thoughtless. The economy is a wreck right now and the governor’s budget proposal reflects the tough times. The state is in the red and the governor has slashed spending in an effort to narrow a $4 billion gap in the state budget. Corbett’s most controversial proposal is the aforementioned cutback in education funding. School districts are scrambling, trying to adjust to life after education-friendly Ed Rendell. We’re all going to pay higher property taxes as a result, and school programs will get stripped down.
It matters not that the proposed cut reflects a loss of federal stimulus money, which the ex-governor, in our view, misdirected to public schools, state colleges and universities. It was supposed to be used for “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects. And by no means does Pennsylvania have a shortage of rotting bridges and crumbling highways. But that’s water under the rusty bridge.
What matters is what the governor’s been telling us. “The sacrifice must be collective,” Corbett said during his March 8 budget address, a theme he has repeated numerous times since then.
By collective he means that all of us need to accept new spending limits. Indeed, lots of Pennsylvanians will be affected as funding cuts put a crimp in all sorts of government programs at all levels. The schools are just the most visible target. Nearly as controversial — and painful for those affected — is the governor’s decision to discontinue funding for adultBasic, the state-subsidized health plan that covered more than 42,000 working poor.
If hard-working, low-income citizens can do without affordable health insurance, the governor, lieutenant governor and their wives can do without shiny new, taxpayer-funded cars.
Coming to the governor’s defense, Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley said, “I don’t think (the governor) knew he was getting a new car until he actually got it.” We don’t doubt it. It was a state police decision. But Corbett has final say. He could have and probably should have ordered the cars to be returned — if not all of them, at least two or three.
Bottom line: He should have shown better leadership. He should have set a good example.
We don’t begrudge the governor the dignity and security of a vehicle befitting his stature. But there’s no reason why Cawley and the wives couldn’t be driven around in cars more in tune with the hard times and also more in keeping with the nation’s energy policy. We’re thinking maybe a mid-size Chevy or Ford, something that won’t induce sticker shock or guzzle gas.
For a final word on the matter we turn to political analyst Terry Madonna: “I think in this day and age, it has to be about shared sacrifice. Public officails cannot ask voters to accept cuts and reduction of services without themselves leading the way.”
How about this?
In an October 9, 2003 (yes, 2003) newspaper article about the Morrisville School Board evaluating options (new, renovate, etc.).
Steve Worob was quoted as follows:
"But Stephen Worob, a borough councilman who was a member of the school board, said the board had no right to have that conversation since some of its members will be gone after November's elections. He also chided them for using a feasibility study that he called a "sham" used by Superintendent John Gould to trick the board into approving a bond issue.
"I'm concerned that a lame-duck school board is dicsussing this," he said. You should wait until December so that the new board can decide how our dollars are spent".
And the rest is history. The "new board" he and many current Stay on Trackers helped get elected voted for the $30 million new school bond issue. At a post-victory party at HIS HOUSE, he got up on his furniture and proclaimed himself the "King of Morrisville".
How did that work out for Morrisville?

Hey - look back here. BCCT gives a Thumbs Down... (read and then think about how Morrisville's Superintendent selection process has gone down):
- To the secrecy-shrouded selection process most school boards use to appoint superintendents.
Take the Pennsbury school board. If all went as planned, the board majority's choice was introduced at Thursday night's meeting. We say "introduced" because district residents weren't told a thing about that candidate or any of the others before board members made up their minds. All that was left was a rubber-stamp vote at a "public" meeting.
Here's a better way. Hold public interviews, rather than closed-door meetings, when candidates are questioned so the public can hear what they have to say. After all, citizens are paying the salary.

Morrisville has a great superintendent selection process. Identify the successor years in the future, harass the incumbent until they leave, pony up big bucks, and appoint the new superintendent.
Its a national trend and if its down its really risen and why do so many people go to Olive Garden there are good non chain Italian restaurants?? Why don't you blog about Anthony's Weiner what don't you want people to know about it?? Why haven't we put men on the moon in 40 years, astronauts get As and Bs but they dont count, Appollo 13 used slide rules to gravity slingshot back to earth you dont see slide rules anymore and thats what's wrong with you people???

MORRISVILLE STUDENTS ON THE JOB Improving the “great outdoors”
The Morrisville Environmental Club is focused on a natural site, in the shadow of a Falls Township landfill. A small group of Morrisville’s intermediate and high school students got together this month and “dug in” to establish a natural garden that eventually will become an established butterfly garden.
The outdoor work began this month and will continue through July at the site located adjacent to Wheelabrator Falls, a Waste Management facility on New Ford Mill Road.
Under the guidance and inspiration of environmental club advisor Elizabeth Glaum-Lathbury, the club members introduced butterfly-friendly plants and flowers to the garden developing around a couple of huge, centerpiece boulders. Glaum-Lathbury said she expects the newly established garden will eventually become a way station for the migrating Monarch butterflies known to travel long distances.
With the help of young environmentalists, the project eventually will grow, expanding on the acres far beyond the New Ford Mill site with native trees, shrubs and trails toward the Delaware River. Waste Management partnered with the Morrisville club to provide the space and materials to help the students develop their project.

Although, correct me if I'm wrong, she's also a French teacher, and attempts have been made to say au revoir to French.
Also, I note that the Student Activities budget (Line 3200) is drastically reduced vs. last year ($292k vs. $153k, almost a 50% cut).
So, I ask you, Mr./Mrs. "Responsable" Leadership, since I think you're on the board and I think someone on the board should at least have an inkling about what's being cut and why - what's being cut and why?

On a Happier Note...
the Morrisville Service Learning Club went to Dorney Park today for their end of year trip! they work so very hard during the year helping the community (food pantry, soup kitchen, canal cleanup, coupons for military families etc) they deserve a great day out. Hope the weather holds up.
The Morrisville Performing Arts Booster club held their end of year picnic for all students who participated in the arts/music programs throughout the year. The party was at the Oxford Valley Pool in Fairless Hills and what a great spot for the kids on one of the hottest nights. Thank you to all who organized the event! The kids had a great time!

Once again neither of these events have anything to do with the school board. Funding and organization of the Service learning program is from the 21st century grant program.
All Funding and organization of the Performance arts student picnic comes from a group of hard working parents who fundraise throughout the year and organize a party for these hard working special kids at year end.
Thank you very much to the 21st century grant prople and the PABs. No thanks necessary to the school board. They are not involved and could care less as long as they don't have to pay for anything.

Anonymous above. You choose to look at things in a very distorted way. I assume you are a SIC supporter or possibly a school board member. As such I don't expect anhything less than your trying to spin things to look good for this board.
The reality is that that the PABS have been in existence way before this school board and have provided parties, special events, and even partial payment of band uniforms as well as support to the teachers and kids in the PA programs in many ways way BEFORE THIS CURRENT SOT/SOC school board was elected. So please don't give the current school board any credit for saving the taxpayers money in this instance. The PABs sponsored event(s) have been in place long before this board came into the picture.
The PABs have been aroung doing these kinds of things since the reestablishedment of the band program after it was CUT some years back by a prior board. By the way there were at least one if not more current school board members on the board that CUT the band program back then. It has taken many years to get a program up to par with the one that had been cut. If it hadn't been cut back then it would have had the time to grow into an even better program than it is now. That cut was actually a true waste of taxpayer money by the board that cut it. I hope those on that prior board who are currently on this board learned somehting from that mistake but I highly doubt it. They are all about cutting pennies now without any thought to the effects on the future.
As for the 21st Century Grant program. That too was not created, invisioned, or funded in any way by this current school board. The school board is just lucky that the grant was and is in place. I commend the 21st century grant program for all their efforts. They are a godsend to this enitre community. Imagine what lack of activities for students there would be without the grant money.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the 21st Century Grant budget for the coming school year (2011-12) is down about $250,000 ($684k vs. $934k). This is a federally funded program. I don't know what new money "Responsable Leadership" above thinks the school board found, but it ain't there. I see no evidence of any new money this school board found anywhere, even though Hellmann claimed they would pursue new sources of funding.

Actually to the anonymous SOC supporter, the parents have always supported the kids, contributed to partys/trips and all fundraising efforts, attended events, sent money in for trips, volunteered our time, chipped in for tissues/glue/supplies/hand sanitizer when asked, cheered at the games, waived our flags with pride at the parades and still paid the highest school taxes around. What was the last event Hellman attended, supported, purchased a ticket to or bought a candy bar just because? How many events have you supported, contributed to and cheered at even when your kids were out of school just because you are a member of the community and are part of the school system?
Former Morrisville Head Football Coach Jim Gober, along with former Assistants Demetrius Roberts and Dennis Cox will be coaching the South All Stars in the Bob Sands Bucks County Football Classic.
Morrisville Seniors Orlando Tirado (#42), Matt Cookson (#8) and Julian Walker (#6) were selected to play in the game and represent Morrisville because of their accomplishments during the 2010 season.
The game was moved to Monday 7pm at War Memorial Field, CB West High School.

I hear there was a shake up with the aides on Friday. Many reassigned and no more general classroom aides, only one-on-one and special needs kids. That ought to be interesting for the younger grades.

I heard that the Family consumer Science program, which would have been the Home Economics type program in my day will be ending this year.
I was told that starting in September the teacher will be teaching some of the special ed kids that are being brought back to the school in an effort to cut costs of alternative education programs. I heard that there will be no replacement teacher hired or moved into the Family Consumer Science program. Thus no program.
Call it what you will but certainly seems like a prgram cut to me.
Lets hope it is just a vicious rumor. I take that back. Most rumors have turned out to be true more often than not in Morrisville.

The "rumor" about the current Family Consumer Science teacher is not a rumor. Mrs. Y has been reassigned to special ed for sure. I know one of the students she was assigned to.
I guess we should "thank GOD" for all these retreaded Stop the Schoolers have done to stop the district. They're well ahead of schedule.

you parents and tax payers have no idea all that is going on in the school right now and what they are doing to the current programs. if you have any concern for this school and the community go to one or all of the upcoming meetings at the school
