Thoughts and observations from last night's Board Meeting?

Sometimes that's how it feels when thinking about Morrisville Politics. A lot of talk but nothing really ever gets started. So, the award goes to.... NSFF
I will try to say this in the nicest way possible. I was disappointed that the Act 77 lighting project that was voted on last night did not include sound and lighting upgrades in the High School auditorium. It was dropped from the scope. I think these upgrades are sorely needed, because school plays, musical events, and other events there have been hurt by shortcomings in sound and lighting. It's nobody's fault. I'm sure everybody does a great job with what they have to work with. The sound and lighting just needs to be upgraded. I hope this can be accomplished soon.
Another thing I learned last night from what Mr. Buckman said about the Tech School.
Although the MSD Board paid $522k to the Tech School at the 6/29/11 Board Meeting, this, combined with $151k the MSD Board paid early in the 2010-11 school year, is still $95k short of what Tech determined our share to be under the funding formula.
If you thought when the MSD Board made the $522k payment that the Tech saga was over, apparently it's not. Mr. Buckman said something about the next PDE hearing on this topic being in September.
Which makes sense, because the way the MSD Board portrayed it when the $522k payment was made, it was based on MSD's own calculations of what it thought was fair, and not the Tech funding formula. Also, it would be MSD's basis for payments in 2011-12 and future years too. So I can see that if Tech feels MSD is not abiding, and will continue to not abide, by the funding formula (as screwy as it may be), Tech would want to put a stop to that rather than let it slide.
For the metaphor of how this board works, this skit describes it better. The board is the red car and we're the outraged Basil. We're outraged and they do nothing.
Everyone. I have a dear friend who suffered through Hurricane Katrina and Rita in New Orleans and battled Stage 4 cancer at same time. She is concerned about our preparations along the East coast and has passed on the following words of advice that I thought was worth sharing with the community... *********************************
Please, it seems as if you are going to receive some rough weather over the weekend with this Hurricane – perhaps predominantly on Sunday. • In case your power is knocked out, are you prepared with batteries, an ice supply, canned goods, light sources? The stores could become depleted of these items quickly . . . you should perhaps take part of today to stock up on these items. Please take a moment to think about this in order to be prepared. • In case you have to evacuate, please make certain your car gas tanks are filled – if everyone is filling their cars, there will be long lines and short supplies • Also, if you have to evacuate, you will need some cash with you – ATM’s will be busy. Make certain you have your credit cards with you. • Also, in case of evacuation, you will need to have important documents in plastic bags and ready to go. • When a hurricane hits here, the nursing homes are in charge of relocating their patients to safer places in case any of you have elderly parents in their care. The Morrisville Labor Day Picnic organizers are looking for assistance with someone with a truck who chelp transport materials to and from Williamson park on Labor Day....here is the request....
Need someone with a truck or van who could volunteer to pick up a track at the Baptist church (for the zucchini race) and some 8' tables at the Robert Morris Apartments rec room and deliver toWilliamson Park?
We would need transportation by 8-8:30am on Labor Day, and about 1:30-2pm afterwards. Volunteers should contact Donna at H - 215-942-0271
