The Future of M.R. Reiter in Question, Public Free to Give Input

MORRISVILLE SCHOOLS
The future of M.R. Reiter in question, public free to give input

Posted: Monday, October 28, 2013 5:31 pm | Updated: 7:16 pm, Mon Oct 28, 2013.

Though the future of the former M.R. Reiter Elementary School is up in the air, Morrisville residents can pitch their ideas next week.
Town officials will hear opinions starting at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 during the Joint Morrisville Borough Council/Morrisville School Board meeting at the district building, 550 W. Palmer St.One idea is to turn the property into open space -- a pitch brought to the school district earlier this month by the Morrisville Environmental Advisory Council.
And the Historic Morrisville Society, whose headquarters abut the school, is on board with that suggestion.
Sharon Hughes, a member of the historic group, said having open space would benefit the community and a pocket park is needed in that area.
Reiter was one of two elementary schools in Morrisville until a furnace blast made it unusable in December 2008. In 2011, the school board closed the school, shifting children to other buildings.
If the school district sells the property, the historical society has “right of first refusal” to buy it, school board President Damon Miller said.
“I think there’s a great deal of discussion that needs to happen with regards to other ideas,” he said, adding that he doesn’t have any preconceived idea about what should be done with the property.
“Please, voice your concerns, instead of waiting until the 11th hour,” Miller asked of the public.
Hughes said the historic group has been talking, off and on, about the prospects of the property for the past two years, but hasn't submitted a proposal to the school district.
None of the three involved groups -- the school district, the environmental council and the historical society -- have money for the demolition, Miller said.
Hughes said the community has united to figure out details. “All of the five groups need to talk -- the district, the borough, the historical society, the EAC and the planning commission,” she said.

The Hutt's plan proceeds apace.
She did everything she could to get Reiter closed and now she'll want us all to foot the bill. She's already done enough to destroy education in Morrisville. If her and her dress-up pals want it so bad-pay for it themselves.
Better yet,let it sit there rotting and rename it the QRSE-Hughes-Hellman School for the Morally Challenged.

Al Radosti gets to look out his window every morning at the eyesore. The stay on course group can buy it and make it their clubhouse.

Easy now. Play nice.

Isn't that playground behind the High School? So we can't play at Reiter.

Anonymous said...

There's dismantled remnants of a playground at Reiter.
It's already off limits, no trespassing, violators will be prosecuted, I'm calling the cops, right?

No need to be nasty, here. I can understand not trusting certain individuals' ideas, but maybe it's a good one (whatever it is). we should hear everyone out, and then make a choice.

No-The School Board exists solely for the benefit of the students of Morrisville. Their ONLY concern should be what is best for them.
NOT what the local residents want.
NOT what the Morrisville Hysterical Society wants.
NOT what some yokel thinks is a good idea.
The Hellman board pulled that "What's good for the community" crap and look what it got us.
Mr.Miller is a good and thoughtful man, but I would caution him to remember just who he really ought to be looking out for-the students of Morrisville. They come first.

The students of Morrisville are residents of Morrisville. Doing good for all is good for them.

I'm open to any suggestions and ideas to pass along to the other board members. Feel free to email me at
dmiller@mv.org if you can't make a meeting.

Please understand that the joint committee does not make the decision on the future of the property and neither does one school board member including myself make that decision. I am simply facilitating a meeting allowing those who choose to speak an opportunity to do so. As with all of the school board committees, the information is then presented to the board and any required action is done by the board as a whole.

Thank you

Damon Miller
President
Morrisville School Board

Sell the damned thing and give us back the money as a tax rebate. I don't care what gets built there. Money is all I care about. Keep our taxes low!

How about a townhouse community for seniors? Not Section 8 or low income but a 55+ community.

Anonymous said...

Consider what a 55+ community would do to our emergency service orgs, specifically the ambulance squad that is already just barely surviving.

Anonymous said...

What is Presby towers doing to emergency services presently? Not much.

Let me clarify, when I asked for suggestions, they have to be within our scope as a board. I don't believe we can determine what goes in an area (the type of housing for example) but I would take those suggestions as the land should be sold to a developer whereas a park or open space would not.

Again, please feel free to email me if you have suggestions or feelings toward this matter.

Thank you again

This would have been solved by now in a Pepitone Administration.

Anonymous said...

Sure. It would be a police station.

Have a stolen truck back into it, make a classroom and abondon the truck in the grassy area. OOPs that happened at the High School.

Anonymous said...

Oh no, that was an inside job?

Was the truck abandoned on a grassy knoll?

Public free to give input and then be patently ignored more like it. And to the NO, IT's only about the kids, your type of thinking is just as bad as the Hellmanites'. This is a community. Everyone is included. No one segment is more important than another, despite the it's for the children mantra that gets constantly trotted out by people who can only repeat catchphrases and don't put any real thought into the drivel that flows from their pieholes.

Specifically, who on the school board do you think will ignore you?

What do you want done with the property? Please specify, so your input is clear.

Wrong. The school board is supposed to look out for the students, period. True, they have to balance that with the limitations of the students' community- but their first and foremost concern should always be providing a decent education. As for "my type of thinking"-it's called looking out for the underserved and the actual clients of the school board. If the schools need (actually need)more money, then taxes need to go up.
Stick that in your piehole asshole.

If the school board solicits input from the entire community and then decides not to do exactly what I want, then they didn't listen.

In a Pepitone administration, a heavy show of blue force will show that building who's boss.

Its not a great thing to say you were a New York City Cop, they are one of the most corrupt forces in the USA.

Tear it down and preserve open green space. In the meantime, fix the deep holes in the parking lot before someone breaks a leg or ankle.

It really doesn't matter what people try to do for Morrisville, there will always be people there to think the worst while they perpetuate their bad karma onto others.

Most of the people in positions of school board director are intelligent people who proven they have the consistent ability to do what is needed in any situation regarding the MSD and the community.

Thank you to the current school board for allowing community members wishing to be heard, have a voice.

If you think they are no different than the old school board, you haven't been paying attention.

There is a huge difference. The current board puts individual thought behind their what their decisions mean to our community now and what they will mean tomorrow. The old board would have played follow the leader and shut the situation down without any input. Want to talk about it at a school board meeting? They would have tossed you out for disrupting the "flow" of their dictatorship of a meeting. Let's remember what we had there as compared to what we have now.

In a perfect world Morrisville's finances wouldn't be the driving force behind even decision made by any elected official. But this isn't a perfect world.

Would I like to see this plot of land developed into something natural, of course.

Will I be pointing my finger at the current school board if it is sold as real estate, no. They are doing what they believe needs to be done to help sustain the MSD.

To the majority of Morrisville School Board of Directors, thank you for allowing the community to have a voice in this process.

No, I am not an elected official in Morrisville Borough.

LOL sorry about the typos above. This is what happens when I'm allowed to play on the computer before having my coffee.

Vulgar insults are the last refuge of a small mind, and I think you just demonstrated the microscopic scope of yours. You are still wrong about the job of the SB, and no amount of insults will change that. Your attitude is part of the reason things in the ville are always so fractious. Your way or the highway, with threats and insults thrown in for good measure. I hope you are not a parent, because that is one hell of a bad lesson for kids.

Sounds pretty insulting to me.
Vulgar ? Perhaps. Threats? What threats ?

One of the reasons things here go badly is because one side constantly tries to appease the nutjob tea partiers and thinks that if you just explain things patiently and reasonably they'll come around. They won't. They'll put up their Gadsen flags and rally the troops and in the meantime our children's education is given short shrift. These people think Ted Cruz is some kind of hero and that Obama is a Kenyan socialist crypto Al Quaeda sleeper agent.
And some news for you-to the School Board, one segment OUGHT to be more important.
Reiter should be sold to the highest bidder and the money should be used for the schools.
Sorry (not really) you don't like my opinion, but when you come in and start throwing the false equivalence grenades around (as bad as the Hellmanites? Really?) you have to expect some blowback.

Yes, let's disenfranchise the majority of the households in the community. That's a great way to build consensus.

Damn! Did someone get told?

NOTHING for Historic Morrisvile Society. It's a right wing tea party extremist group.

Anonymous said...

I know. I would love to be a part of the historic morrisvile group and save our town history. i cant stand the people who have set themselves up as the holier than thou busybodies. they do real damage to the real historic servants there.

Anonymous said...

I would also be involved with the Historic Morrisville Society but the only history that they seem to know is Summerseat. Their events show little imagination, are poorly publicized, and do not include other sites in town.
The group should be at the front of historic preservation in town. They could document and encourage the preservation of the remaining Victorian structures. They could design a Heritage/History trail like Newtown Borough with historic markers at important locations which would encourage visitors and increase foot traffic in the downtown. They should be a part of the revitalization of Morrisville instead they are more like the former school board..they're just "The Old Guard".

If you want progress on the school board to continue and you want people on the board who will put in the time, work hard, research, offer ideas, suggestions, attend meetings and participate in committees and events you MUST vote STOUT OUT by Voting IN Dann Dingle, Joe Gilleo, Jon Perry and Ivan Colon.

Do not let this man continue to merely keep a seat warm for naps.

If you hold an elected position you should be producing, participating, and aware of what is going on around you. There is no comparison between the job Dann Dingle has done vs. Stout.

OUT WITH STOUT

IN WITH DINGLE, GILLEO, PERRY AND COLON
