Morrisville’s Class of 2012 members shared the spotlight on Wednesday evening under partly cloudy skies as they prepared for the future by celebrating their past.
Valedictorian Jessica Martin focused on sleep, or lack thereof, that the graduating seniors became accustomed to over the last four years while they tackled their studies.
“All of the teachers here have pushed us to our limits and made us the students that we are today,” Jessica said. “We did it!”
She spoke to the graduates while hundreds of their family members and friends looked on as the commencement played out in the intimate outdoor setting of a courtyard nestled inside the borough school.
Blue and gold star balloons bounced in the gentle breeze as Jessica, salutatorian Kathryn Woolf, Class President Kievanna Lacey and Class Vice President Jenna Souyack took turns taking a quick stroll down memory lane before turning their attention to the future.
They talked about the benefits of going to a smaller school.
“I am glad that I have attended Morrisville High School,” said Kievanna, the class president. “Each person in this class has something unique about them.”
But something that is the same for every one of the graduating seniors is the support of their family members and loved ones, said Jenna, the class vice president.
“You are the one that made this day possible,” she said to the mothers and fathers in the audience. “You made us the young men and women we are today.”
The love, support and encouragement along the way have helped the graduates prepare to enter a world of unknowns, said Kathryn, the salutatorian.
“We do not know what to expect, but we do know that whatever may come our way, we are ready to handle it,” she said. “If there is one thing that this class is great at doing, it is pursuing our dreams.”
To drive that point home, the graduating seniors processed out of the courtyard to the tune of “We Are Young” by FUN.
“Let’s set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun,” played the music as graduates shared hugs of celebration with their classmates and families.
Acting Principal Donald Harm said he expects the graduating seniors to accomplish “great things” in the future. “I challenge them to make a difference,” he said.
