At the May 23 Morrisville school board meeting action item No. 2 is set to be approved for a $10,000 payment to Vitetta, the architectural firm of record for Morrisville.
Anyone from Bristol Borough recognize this name? Morrisville Matter's campaign literature stressed that they were not in favor of building a new school. So why are they hiring an architect?
I guess it's really just semantics, isn't it?
Apparently if you decide to build several classrooms, a multipurpose room, and an arena for kindergarten art and music, it is not technically considered "a building." A cost of at least $15 million is being discussed to borrow as soon as the Morrisville Matter's school directors have control of their first budget next year in 2012/2013.
I predict construction will begin to expand Grandview Elementary School this summer.
Never mind that student enrollment has declined steadily and that only a fraction of the funds needed to maintain our school district come from any business or industry still solvent in our borough.
Reality is that almost all of the school tax revenue comes from homeowners who already pay the highest school tax rate in Bucks County.
I believe that these board members were elected with a smoke and mirrors campaign using IBEW union members walking door to door on Election Day. The wool has been pulled over your eyes and the foxes are now minding the hen house.
Best of luck to us all when we open our school tax bill the first of July 2013.

wow, do you ever check your facts? do you ever get it right? do you ever do the right thing? Foxy lady needs to do a reality check and go visit the doc, she was looking quite psychotic on last board videos. good luck jane burger if she is what you got working for you, may want to do a reality check yourself cause 2013 is going to be a page turner of a year

Marlys Mihok - WACKO! Loves to hear her own name. She needs to have her meds checked.

Anonymous said...

Attention SOC people who claim to be reasonable - can you defend this pot stirring pathological liar? We'd love to hear it.

Anonymous said...

Diversion tactics! Her group has so much to worry about these days, with potential fines and jail time and losing their jobs that they are just lashing out whenever possible.

Who was her ghost writer? What a way to connect nonexistant dots.

Maybe the real issue is that Marlys & her friends ran things so poorly in both the school district and the borough that nobody wants them back again. Not to mention that when all is said and done they may all have even bigger problems and they know it. They have to try to sway the public to pay attention to non-issues in hopes of taking away from all of their sneaky wrong doings.

Mihok is lashing out now because her best buddy Hellmann is in the hot seat at the borough side of things.

But keep on bashing how the union helps the town to all of the blue collar workers who make up the majority of residents in Morrisville, Marlys. It makes you look really smart. FAIL!

If Marlys had actually done something to help the community by attending the annual canal cleanup last April, she could have confronted the IBEW members about this because there were about 40 of them there to help. Something that never happened in Jane Burger's time. Have to bash people who are trying to help a community because they put a light on people like you, Marlys, who do nothing but stop progress and complain.

Oh Marlys - same old song. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Anonymous said...

Nice try Mrs. Mihok. Do you believe your own BS?, nobody else does anymore.

On Election Day, IBEW members walked around several Bucks County communities, (not just Morrisville)only as a public service, making sure people remembered to vote.

"Never mind that student enrollment has declined steadily and that only a fraction of the funds needed to maintain our school district come from any business or industry still solvent in our borough"

Wasn't it this year that they needed to add a kindergarten class because of all the enrollment?

Yes. In an evil upside down world, she deserves kudos for packing so many lies into such a short letter.

Q: What's the difference between Mihok and the Hindenburg?

A: One is a flaming gasbag; the other is a dirigible.

Jon said...

Mihok is one of the primary reasons I'm even involved in Morrisville school board "politics". I was never a political person by nature. I voted - that's about it.

I don't want power or control of anything. I have a day job. But when I saw her antics and the antics of some of her friends, it drove me into getting involved, as a counterweight to their pervasive lies, character assassination, and heavy handed scorched earth politics. I believe the Morrisville Matters board members independently came to the conclusions and got involved too.

SOC could have a lot more success if it could control the huge liability it has in Mihok. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think anyone at SOC has the guts, ability, or inclination to do so.

Marlys should shut her trap, she has no skin in the game. She doesn't pay property taxes in this town.

Marlys needs to ask the Super. she helped hire what part of his ass the $15 million figure came from. He's the one who said it.

Coffee tawk!

Mihok:

"Never mind that student enrollment has declined steadily and that only a fraction of the funds needed to maintain our school district come from any business or industry still solvent in our borough"

Reality:

Enrollment 11/16/2005

PreK-5 = 400
6-12 = 495
TOTAL = 895

Enrollment 12/12/2007

PreK-5 = 441
6-12 = 476
TOTAL = 917

Enrollment 12/16/2009

PreK-5 = 465
6-12 = 421
TOTAL = 886

Enrollment 12/14/2011

PreK-5 = 510
6-12 = 401
TOTAL = 911

Change 2005-2011

PreK-5 = +110
6-12 = -94
TOTAL = +16

Overall enrollment has been relatively steady, but where the enrollment is has changed. PreK-5 enrollment is up, 6-12 enrollment is down.

Oh, and Mihok lies like a rug.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS:
Contracts approved by the Board are available for viewing in the Business Office.

ACTION ITEMS:

5.1.a. Award of Electrical Bid This item was deleted from the agenda.
5.2. Approval, Agreements with Vitetta -- Upgrades at the Middle/Senior High School.

Mr. Hellmann amended this motion as noted.

5.2.a. The Board approved a motion to approve the October 3, 2008 (revised) proposal from Vitetta pertaining to infrastructure upgrades at the Middle/Senior High School.

Scope A ............................................................... fixed fee of $220,950
Less scope of services #4 if board rejects the bid.
Reimbursable expenses ........................................ cost as outlined in agreement
Additional services............................................... cost as outlined in agreement

Moved by Mr. Hellmann; seconded by Mrs. Mihok; passed by a voice vote of 6 ayes; 1 nay.

Member voting no was Mrs. Reithmeyer.

Mr. Hellmann advised that the $220,950 is for engineering fees. It is not the cost of construction, strictly engineering fees to go out for spec work. Mr. Lastichen advised that this proposal is to replace classroom unit heating ventilators; isolate valves to units; install DDC automatic control system; repair flexible duct connection; investigate and estimate tinted reflecting film for windows.

Based on very preliminary estimate it is anticipated the construction budget for this work will be in the $2.5 million range.

Mr. Hellmann amended this motion as noted.
5.2.b. The Board approved a motion to approve the October 13 2008 Agreement with Vitetta pertaining to HVAC Upgrades at the Middle/Senior High School
Scope B
Piping Replacement ............................................................$54,000
Work Associated with Piping Replacement ........................$54,000
Less scope of services #4 if board rejects the bid.
Reimbursable expenses ........................................ cost as outlined in agreement
Additional services............................................... cost as outlined in agreement
Mrs. Mihok advised that the lines are 50+ years old. Mr. Hellmann advised that the estimated cost for the replacement alone could be $675,000. Mr. Lastichen outlined work covered under this proposal: install expansion tanks for boilers; replace H&V units; replace air handler; replace split system air conditioning units; replace heat pump unit; replace hot water heaters. This proposal is for the specs only.

Moved by Mr. Hellmann; seconded by Mr. Radosti; passed by a voice vote of 6 ayes; 1 nay. Member voting nay was Mrs. Reithmeyer. Mrs. Reithmeyer explained that her vote against these motions is because she does not feel it is in the best interest of the taxpayers of this district for this board to move forward without a plan. Additionally, by foregoing feasibility studies our district will not get any money from the state for any of these projects. So while wealthier school districts around us are reaping the benefits of our state tax dollars we are intentionally removing the possibility of any reimbursement by not getting a feasibility study done and
following the plan outlined by the state.

5.3. Approval, Agreement with Vitetta – Grandview and Reiter Elementary Schools
The Board approved a motion to approve the October 13, 2008 (2nd revision) proposal from Vitetta related to Grandview and M.R.Reiter Elementary Schools.

Reimbursable expenses................... cost as outlined in agreement (estimated at $3,500)

The Board PRESENTED a motion to appoint Angelo Rago as owner’s representation for the construction work specified by Vitetta. Compensation will be $110/hour (estimated at $4,800/month).

Moved by Mr. Hellmann; seconded by Mr. Buckman.

After conferring with Mr. DeAngelo and Mr. Lastichen, Dr. Yonson asked the board if we need an owner’s rep because of the size of the project and in an effort to save the district money. Mr. Hellmann would like to have a second set of eyes on the project. He stated that after just looking at the contract Mr. Rago has saved us a potential $60,000.
Mr. Fitzpatrick advised that Mr. Rago would provide construction oversight to ensure that what is in the bid specifications actually ends up in the building.
The Board discussed the inclusion of the electrical work in this proposed contract. It was decided that this motion would be amended to include the electrical work.

The Board approved a motion to AMEND this motion so that Mr. Rago has a second set of eyes on the electrical work. Also to appoint Angelo Rago as owner’s representation for the construction work specified by Vitetta. Compensation will be $110/hour (estimated at $4,800/month).

Call me crazy, but I'm starting to get the distinct impression that Marlys Mihok actually might have had something to do with hiring Vitetta, including hiring them to be the Morrisville School District's Architect of Record. It also appears she had something to do with hiring Angelo Rago too.

After reading all of great info provided above, I found that I had to read what Mihok wrote.....again. So much of it annoys me for so many reasons it is hard to pick just one thing.

Maybe she thought this looked good on paper but really? Is this all she has?

"Morrisville Matter's campaign literature stressed that they were not in favor of building a new school. So why are they hiring an architect? I guess it's really just semantics, isn't it?
Apparently if you decide to build several classrooms, a multipurpose room, and an arena for kindergarten art and music, it is not technically considered "a building."

Anyone ever put an addition on their house? There is a big difference between building an addition and building a house. I'm sure her buddies Stoudt & Worob know this.

I learned long ago not to try to make sense of what this woman and her friends spew out.

Jon said...

Not to put too fine a point on Mihok’s tangled web of lies, but nobody "decided" to do or build anything at Grandview. I was at the same meeting Mihok attended, which she mined for the raw materials to fabricate her line of “thought”. It didn’t go down that way. If they have enough integrity, even her staunch and/or loose political allies will admit it.

The ultimate irony is that VITETTA, the company Mihok repeatedly voted to hire, as I posted above, made the drawing of the Grandview addition she refers to. Vitetta made the drawing in November 2009, when Mihok was on the board. So, actually she and her SOC cohorts authorized Vitetta to draw up plans for an addition to Grandview.

If you take Mihok’s word for anything, you’re being bamboozled.

I suppose she really expected the trailers to be permanent? I mean, they really look fabulous and all, but was that part of the 6-point the plan?

The 6-point plan that didn't exist?

Anonymous said...

If a 6-point plan that doesn't exist ...

... doesn't exist in the woods ...

... will Marlys lie about that too?

Jon said...

But seriously folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the rationale for removing the trailers this year is primarily:

1. They're NOT a long-term solution;
2. Insurance will pay - this year only - for about $65k of the $85k contractual removal cost;
3. Continued rental costs $76k per year.

We (collectively, the community, the School Board, etc.) can debate the wisdom of that. We also have to find something like 6-8 classrooms to make up for the loss of the trailers. That's why various options are being discussed, in public, such as moving 3rd grade into the High School building, or re-opening the Manor Park School.

We (again, the collective we) can’t just look at the short-term; we also have to look at long-term solutions. Other options need to be developed and considered. One of these options might even be, God forbid, adding onto Grandview. Hell, even the Uber-Majority SOC Board looked into it - in November 2009, they had the architect they hired, Vitetta, do a drawing of an additon onto Grandview.

I implore more people with normal brains and good ideas to get involved. Otherwise, people like Marlys Mihok concoct delusional tales and get their non-fact checked letters published in the paper, while various SOC School Board members appease, condone, support, or remain silent in the face of her destructive behaviors, with very few people looking over their shoulders.

True, but this was smoke and mirrors, in my opinion. I don't think they ever seriously considered it but rather, they did it to make it *appear* as though they were considering every option. They weren't.

But, as Dennis Miller used to say, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Not to pile on the thorough and justified discrediting of Mar-less, but Morrisville Matters is 4 out of the 9 board members.

That's 44%, not a majority. They're not sheep, and they don't all vote the same way. Shocking isn't it?

Morrisville Matters can't 'decide' or do anything on their own. Even fake things that Mar-less makes up.

Mrs. Mihok has been a sad part of Morrisville politics for thirty years. The condition of the boro today is a monument to how she and her friends have stifled a vibrant community. She has been ranting about so many hidden conspiracies and imaginary boogeymen that you imagine her hiding on the grassy knoll as JFK drives by.
The empty M.R. Reiter Elementary school exists because she voted to not do the repairs and maintenance that were needed. When the heater exploded, the whole building was contaminated. The high school now starts at grade four. She campaigned against a new K-12 building yet seems determined to shoehorn all the Morrisville students into a 60 year old K-12 building.

Anonymous said...

Won't HS start at 3rd grade next year? And possibly way lower! With an increase in enrollment district wide, why have/are so many teaching positions being eliminated? Aides let go? Custodians too? Yet Administration costs go up?

Anonymous said...

In an e-mail written to the rest of the board fewer than 24 hours after the boiler blew, board President Bill Hellmann indicated a shuttered M.R. Reiter is just what he’d hoped for. The emphasis is all his.

“If we close both elementary schools and put everybody in the high school, we will save a FORTUNE in operating costs. EVERY YEAR. The pro new-schoolers wanted a K-12 school. Well here it is.
