HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — State lawmakers are returning to Harrisburg and will probably spend much of the coming weeks deciding how to lessen Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed funding cuts in the new state budget.Monday kicks off the final two months of the spring legislative session and the state's fiscal year. The state's tax collections in April are turning out better than Corbett expected and could help the state exceed the estimates in the governor's overall budget plan by several hundred million dollars.

But there is a long line of proposed cuts that will demand lawmakers' attention, including reductions for county-administered social services, assistance for the poor, hospitals, nursing homes and public schools and universities.
Meanwhile, Corbett's budget doesn't propose any major tax increases, and it would cut taxes for businesses.
