Keep Those Posts Coming!

The "Blogger.com" service was temporarily down for the last 24 hours or so, but it seems to have been restored.  Great timing, huh?

Sorry for the inconvenience.  Keep those posts coming!

Note: "Blogger.com" says some of the posts for the last 24 hours were temporarily removed (by them, not me), but they are supposed to be restored "soon".

Yea glad to see it back...we missed the blog...

I will start by saying Thank you from the Heart to the 100+ people who came out last night in support of Morrisville Matters and their candidates at the pasta dinner. Thanks to the IASC for providing a great facility and great service. Thanks to Ann, Gayle and Joe for doing an incredible job from beginning to end and to those who baked, Good Lord you have a talent! We do not want to miss anyone but just know that there is not a thing that has been done for us since signing the ballot forms that go without us feeling so grateful for the friends and supporters we have. One more event to go tomorrow may 14th from 5-7pm at Williamson Park picnic pavilion Music, Free hotdogs/Sides, and fun with your candidates. Bring your friends and enjoy the carnival as well.

BCCT Thumbs Down. HOw has MSD's Superintendent selection process been?

- To the secrecy-shrouded selection process most school boards use to appoint superintendents.

Take the Pennsbury school board. If all went as planned, the board majority's choice was introduced at Thursday night's meeting. We say "introduced" because district residents weren't told a thing about that candidate or any of the others before board members made up their minds. All that was left was a rubber-stamp vote at a "public" meeting.
Here's a better way. Hold public interviews, rather than closed-door meetings, when candidates are questioned so the public can hear what they have to say. After all, citizens are paying the salary.

Any idea what this is about??

NOTICE

The Morrisville School District Board of School Directors will hold a Special Meeting immediately proceeding the 7:30 pm Agenda Meeting on May 18, 2011 in the LGI Room of the Intermediate/Senior High School, 550 W. Palmer Street, Morrisville, PA. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Human Resource matters and such other lawful matters as may come before the Board.

Marlys Mihok

School Board Secretary

Let me start by saying that I am a terrible speller and equally bad with word definitions so forgive me if I am wrong.

Does Ms Mihok mean "preceding" (definition - prior to the meeting)? The word proceeding used in the notice above is defined as - taking place, going on, scheduled. That doesn't make sense to me.
Can someone explain?

If it does mean before the meeting what is the start time? I think that should be given in a notice. Or is the special meeting after the Agenda meeting? Then it would make sense to leave out a start time.

So in addition to being vague about the purpose of the meeting the timing is confusing. At least it is to me.

Some folks on this blog are narrow-minded. The facts are out there. How many empty buildings are in PA ??? How many houses are in foreclosure and auction proceedings all through-out our country???
You weren't paying attention tonite when Solidad O'Brien did the CNN special "Don't Leave Me Behind". You weren't paying attention when Arne Duncan said more than 2/3 of our states in the US are graduating children without the info they will need to enter college or adult life. He also claims it is going to change, but ofcourse it will take a few years to get straightened out. The PDE has made claims as far back as 2007, that our children are getting A's and B's that don't mean anything. Yes we have 2 empty sch. buildings that's not that bad considering we have 4 schools buildings in our little district. Take a look, I know it's hard to do. There's not just one quick fix answer to the mess we are in. There is a cause-- we deal with only the effects! It seems you ignore the REAL facts, because it is too much for you to comprehend. It's so much easier to blame a school board, than to take a hard look at the uncomfortable truth....Google: Ben Cohen youtube video; Oreo cookie presentation. Other's are passing the US, this video shows how.

Thanks for the post. 2 out of 4 buildings empty. That's 50% empty. Not bad?

One of our school buildings (MRReiter) is empty in large part because School Board President Hellmann personally dropped bidding on fixing its furnace just 5 months before the furnace exploded.

The other (Manor Park) had a long-term rent-paying tenant (about $28,000/yr) until the board terminated the lease. Then School Board member Marlys Mihok claimed she saw moving trucks moving stuff in, which was the exact opposite of what happened.

So let's get ALL of the relevant facts out there. I think the ones I mentioned are especially relevant to Morrisville because they specifically involve Morrisville.

But I will take a look at the information you mention. I encourage everyone else to also. Let's have a civil dialogue about it.

It's Soledad, not Solidad, O'Brien. Soledad means solitude. I learned this in High School Spanish class.
The CNN special is called "Don't Fail Me: Education in America", not "Don't Leave Me Behind".
If you're going to trash other peoples' attention span and fact checking...
Just sayin'.
