Memorial Day

Enjoy the parades, the barbeques, the long weekend, family, and friends.

But most of all, remember and honor all who served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Residents enjoy the red, white and blue tradition

Morrisville - After a stormy morning, dozens of Morrisville residents lined the streets of the borough and suffered through Monday's steamy heat for the annual Memorial Day parade.
Donned in red, white and blue, people sat with neighbors, friends and family to wave flags and watch the parade that began at Morrisville Presbyterian Church on North Pennsylvania Avenue and ended at Morrisville cemetery. The event featured bagpipers, fire and rescue trucks, Boy and Girl Scouts, drummers and more.

"It's a tradition," said 67-year-old Alex Stepaniuk, who relaxed in a chair next to his wife, Carol. "It's a day to reflect on all the people that give up their lives. It's important to think about that."
Stepaniuk served in the Army from 1965 to 1970.
Matt Griffin, another borough resident and parade attendee, also served the country in the Air Force throughout the 1990s. He brought his 2-year-old daughter, Norah, to the parade for the first time.
"She doesn't really get it yet, but she still loves it and is excited," he said. "This is a good way to honor those who provide all that we have."

Concerned Parent
I'd like to know why my children were dismissed from school at 11:00 AM today. I understand that it was rather warm today but I don't think it was hot enough to warrant early dismissal of the students. I spent the day in an unairconditioned facility and I was fine.
It is not that hot yet. I know of many other unariconditioned schools that remained open all day for learning. What happened here??? Is it going to happen again? My child is suppose to be in school learning.
Does anyone out there know why this is allowed to happen?

I thought the schools were air conditioned? You know, renovated. Where did the $7million go if the A.C. doesn't work? The boilers in the HS didn't work right for a whole winter. This is ridiculous!!

According to my child only two of the middle school classrooms have a fan and one of those fans was purchased by the teacher. Being that he is a student who attends classes at the MS (sorry I mean the Intermediate school) every day I can't believe he would be that misinformed about this situation so I tend to believe him about the lack of fans.
Forget about lack of ac from the renovation! Why don't the classrooms even have fans? Was there something installed during the renovations that would dismiss the need for fans? If so is it working?

Mihok had the AC in the LGI cranked down to igloo levels at a recent meeting meeting. Didn't ask anyone elses' opinion.

The district calendar is empty for today.

Its all going to be allright, suck it up, deal with it, overlook it. What are you doing about China making every thing? Even the school board hand books that say you must vote with the majority. Its all pyritted. Morrisville Matters doesn't want you to know this that's why they keep it secret.

Dismissal @ 11 am is not effecting the educational programs and you know it!

Wednesday, 6/1/11 - Another 11:00AM dismissal at the Intermediate/HS. HOw are the kids supposed to be properly educated under these conditions?

go to the next school board meeting and address your concerns. nothing is going to happen on a blog, except letting off steam

Nothing's going to happen at the school board meeting either. It's crafted to minimize criticism from the public and ram through the preapproved agenda items.

Next Super mtg, stock answer #17B: Because of ___ and ______, we weren't able to anticipate the hot weather and make sure the brand new A.C. was up and ready and functioning properly. When it happens again next year it'll be a year since it happened and we'll have forgotten again, and ...

The I/HS has AC in the Library, Cafeteria, Auditorium, Computer Labs, and Offices. Very few classrooms have window AC units. When the building heats up it holds in the heat. The halls do have improved ventilation and tend to be a little cooler than the classrooms. The heat disrupts education just as much as the kids getting sent home early. When it's 80 degrees in a classroom at 7:45 in the morning it's really hard to concentrate.

Anonymous above.
Not sure I understand your last point. Are you saying that as long as it is eighty degrees or more in the classrooms the kids should not have to be in school learning?
I agree with you that eighty degrees or more is disruptive but if that is the temperature limitation we assign to disruptiveness then the classrooms should be fixed so that they don't reach that temperature.

According to my children, it was the hallways that were really hot yesterday.

The 3 classes that they had today had no a/c.

Why were 3 classes held today the ones that were missed yesterday? Was there already a plan for an early dismissal? I got a phone call this morning at around 9:30 this morning which was well into the 2nd period of the day. Why weren't parents told if plan was to let kids out early again?

What will this district do if a heat wave hits? More half-days?

I thought the renovations the taxpayers paid for were supposed to help. Why didn't they put a/c in the classrooms? Why do the offices have them and classes don't? Didn't anybody think this through?

I don't pay much attention to what is going on with this school board since I don't have time and work in the evenings. I don't think we got our money's worth if offices have a/c but classrooms don't.

I'm glad I was home these past few days to make sure my child could be home. I don't know what other parents do.

The district offices are open year round. I understand why they have A/C.

Anonymous said...

I understand why offices have ac. I don't understand why millions of dollars were spent on renovations but ac and hvac were only partially installed, and they left dopey looking old inefficient window ac's in a few places and then no ac at all elsewhere. Dumb and cheap. That's what you get when you decide how much it's gonna cost before you decide what needs to be done. Dump and cheap.

You can add doing nothing about auditorium light and sound in the original renovations. It was a no brainer to do it. It took a literal lack of brains to not do it.

what the heck is up with someone saying Morrisville Matters is keeping something secret about having to vote with the School board majority. I hope this is someone joking around even though I heard something like that from a current board member. you don't vote for something if you don't want to and I for one would never "vote with the majority" when I don't believe in something. I'm my own person.

according to my son, 1 class has air cond and a fan, one class has a fan, and the next has no fan at all...sounds like the three bears. Wonder which board members would be the bears???

Sounds like everyone had a great memorial day!!!
Some people can't afford air conditioning, and food. Some kids go to school because lunch is the only meal they will have each day. Can anyone here think beyond themselves?

To T. Parker,
Was it a majority decision to disrespect the Vets by turning the Memorial Day Parade into a political event? I don't recall seeing everyone. I was with a couple of military men who called it a Palin maneuver. One said an apology is in order and it should be given via local gov.channel.

Soft spoken teachers DON'T LIKE FANS! Some don't like AIR! They are the adults in charge of the class rooms. The teachers/admin have the final say, they prepare for the school year weeks before school starts every year. Seems to me if they thought Air was necessary, they would pick one up at K-Mart for $100.00. I know I would! I'd get myself a microwave also- I wouldn't like the crowded teachers lounge! I like QUIET ! It's good for the soul. Honk Honk!

Ike & Herbie, take your concerns up with the nebulous entity that organizes the parade. When you get an unsatisfying crap answerless irrational runaround laced with misinformation, join the crowd who feels like this around the school board. Does Stay on Coarse ever feel or take any responsibility for anything? It's always somebody else's fault.

Anonymous said...

The vets you were standing with served under the banner of squelching the exercise of free speech under the US Constitution? Holy Crow! I'll give them that Palin is a self aggrandizing windbag.
No one ever affiliated with Stay on Coarse or its earlier incarnations has ever been in the Memorial Day Parade representing candidates for elected office? Sincerely doubt it, which is the height of hypocrisy.

Strealing flyers off people's doors and other underhanded tricks is more SOC's style.

Ted Parker said...

Ike & Herbie: I don't see why we should offer an apology the parade was open to anyone.
Other people seeking public office were also in the parade. So why would just Morrisville Matters apologise.
what I think is the Stay on course group is just pissed, they didn't think to join in.
oh wait that would mean being out in the light of day in the public spot light and have to smile. Sorry I don't agree with giving a apology. all we did was show town pride and be active in things going on in borough

Jon please do the all the people who follow your blog a favor and take down the link to the morrisvilles future blog. They have now removed all the past posts, most of which were far from nice to the current school board. This is more proof that the person or persons running that blog have close ties to current board members and are trying to keep information, from the public.

hey was Jane Burger in the parade? I heard she was????????

Jane Burger is a sour faced woman with a mean streak a mile long and as unAmerican as they come

Anonymous said...

What do you have to do to become a real American??

Anonymous said...

The district no longer installs window A/C Units that teachers bring in and Teachers are not allowed to have microwaves or mini fridges in there rooms.

Anonymous said...

Was Jane Burger in the parade...well...yes and no. She was at the church to make sure her #1 crony Rita Ledger could handle the job of sitting on the back of a car and to make sure her newest crony was in the parade.

She was at the corner of Maple Ave to cheer her cronies on as they went by (and to spread as much misinformation as possible about everyone she doesn't like to anyone standing around her who would listen).

She was at the end of the parade and then at the ceremony standing next to her Canadian crony who doesn't even know if his name is Ormond or Graeme.

So no, she was not physically in the parade, but yes she was definitely in the parade in many forms.

Can someone from the morrisvillesfuture blog answer why all the comments on there are gone? That was a rich repository of information and documentation. Can you please explain?

Yes Jon would love to know why as well. First assumption would be someone doesn't want information out there. It is a shame to dismantle the historical data that was contained in that blog.
However, if you do a google search on names... articles and comments that once appeared on the Morrisville Futures blog will most likely still come up under the "cached" option under the search.
You can delete from the blog but things will still be found on the web. Happy hunting!
