The school board meeting discussed a new bus pickup location for Bucks County Technical High School students.
A basketball court removed without public notice will not be put back up at Grandview Elementary. And the bus pickup location for tech school students will change next week.
Superintendent Bill Ferrara told a group of parents at Wednesday’s superintendent advisory meeting that it’s not the district’s responsibility to provide recreation, so they should take their concern to the borough council. He’s talked to borough officials about the issue, so they are aware of it, he said.
The issue isn’t on top of his to-do list, but he might go back to it at a later time, Ferrara said.
School director John DeWilde, the only school board member at the meeting, said it wasn’t a dead issue, and some things needed to be done and looked into.
A few parents were frustrated with the outcome, but didn’t continue to push — the issue. The two hoops were removed during a paving project of the parking lot without public notice, taking some of the area kids who use the court by surprise.
Also discussed at the meeting was the pickup location for the Morrisville students who attend Bucks County Technical High School.
After parents petitioned to move the location for safety, Ferrara agreed to move morning pickup from Reiter Elementary School to Morrisville High School starting Tuesday. The drop-off will continue to be at Reiter, though.
To avoid backing up traffic on Palmer Avenue at the high school, parents are encouraged to park and drop off their children instead of stopping in the middle of the street.
Parents will be advised of the change in a blast phone message, Ferrara said.
In addition, Ferrara said the tech school students will continue to be transported in one bus with help from a van when needed. Getting two buses “isn’t going to happen,” he said.
The bus fits about 80 elementary-size students if seated three in one seat. There’s room for about 54 high school students if two are seated together, so there should be room for the 50 students heading to the Bristol Township school, he said.

"it’s not the district’s responsibility to provide recreation" Just watch. Al Radosti's dream of no football will be next.

Let's get back to the way it was. Drop all athletics and arts related activity and save a TON of money with just the 3Rs: Reading, Riting, Rithmetic.

They are more like nightmares for the rest of us.

I don't get it. The school district takes down the the basketball court and blames it on the town council. Under ordinary circumstances this would seem very strange. But seen enough misguided finger pointing from the present school board to know its just another day.

The kids from the 4th ward used the basketball court. Does the borough even own any property in the 4th ward? I'm not aware that they do.

So typical that the school board shoveled this s@*!! onto someone else as a scape goat. No big surprise there.

I don't regularly go in for name calling but there is stupidity in giving the tech kids a bus stop that is different in the afternoon than it is in the morning. What about kids who ride their bikes to the bus stop, and the kids who park in the Reiter parking lot and take the bus, totally screws them. Because of the messed up bus situation, this year, there are kids who have found their own transporation to and from the tech school at their own cost - so ridiculous. These kids shouldn't have to pay for their own transportation to and from school when we all pay taxes to cover such things. - again ridiculous!

You can't really stop them from doing anything they want to do. Right now, they have all the school board votes. They just hired the Superintendent to a new 3 year deal. I'm not advocating firing the Super, I'm just saying almost all power and authority is tightly aligned. By what power or authority can you possibly stop them, particularly if it's not illegal? The best you can do is respectfully but assertively and factually make your points, stay on them, and try to get some other voices on the board so it's not such a struggle to afffect relatively minor and not costly changes.
